...Tell the Lecturer to quit lecturing and be a Senator, if he so much in love with the pay. Some works are noble work (Law enforcement, Farming, Clergyman/Spiritualist and Teaching) and at the University level you needs to be on top of the game not repeating same textbook for decades and coming to class twice in a month. Some of them have 3-4 lecturing job at major institutions at the same time using the same static methods while young educationist are roaming the street without jobs. They keep going on strike because of a request they made to the then Military Govt. and you know what they collect salary for not coming to work Think About That.

You are missing the point

I don't a agree with you entirely. Many Nigeria lecturers are good but most students are not serious with their studies.

Don't expect to engage in certain bad social activities as a student and at the same time, expect to graduate with good grades because you can't eat your cake and have it

Even in Europe, lots of students drop out too. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and many others dropped out, but dropping out of school doesn't mean you can't become successful in life again

In civilized countries, the rate at which your students pass out and graduate is testament to how great and efficient you are as a lecturer and so a professor in harvard would say I AM A GREAT LECTURER BECAUSE ALL MY STUDENTS PASSED AND GRADUATED.

This is the bragging rights of any professor in civilized countries.

Meanwhile this failure of a professor in Nigeria bragging right is how many students fail his class and drop out of the department and get kicked out of the university. This is the bragging right of this failure who is too brain dead to understand that if most of your students are failing and being kicked out of the university it is a testament of how bad of a lecturer you are.

I hereby henceforth submit that all Nigerian lecturers should be put on a salary of 200 thousand a month because that is what they deserve. They dont deserve more than that until they can make sure that all their students graduate and know what they are doing after they graduate.

You are just focused on graduating?

Have you ever wondered what happens to the quality of the graduates?

If a lecturer is not paid well, how do you expect them to impact adequate knowledge on the students?

I can clearly see that you are part of the problem, with this abhorrable mentality of yours towards the earning power of lecturers.

What a shame.

If education didn't fail this op, he would have realized that lecturers are not always the same.

That you had sadistic lecturers who failed you severally does not mean every lecturer is the same way.

Most of my own lecturers are great people and I remember having an A in 6 of the 7 courses of a certain lecturer in a first generation federal Uni o.

If the op becomes a president, he would be worse than Buhari because according to him, Nigerian lecturers are not good. May we not have someone with his kind of mindset becoming our president.

He is right. Nigerian lecturers wear it as a badge of honor. The highest you will get in my course is a C. What insanity is that? A high failure rate means you failed as a lecturer. your job is to impart knowledge.

I don't think professors deserve the big money they are asking for. If a professor is as good they claim, they would not care about the pay system because institutiona Abroad would be fighting to have them. Look at the way our nurses and doctors find positions abroad, our professors should be the same.
Re: Why A Nigerian University Professor Does Not Deserve More Than 200k A Month by Nobody: 10:20am On Jul 20, 2022
200k is too much for the saddistic lecturers we have in Nigeria, especially at the Govt owned universities, who want their students to acarry over their courses for eternity, they dont come to class, and when they do its to punish students .

50k a month is too much for them.

They sleep with our girls for free and frustrate the guys, if you want to make it you have to be a class rep ( handout marketer) or help in marking scripts. Students who dont sort are guaranteed to carryover the course for the next 10 years.

Even as a Postgaduate student you re not off the hook, you d better be in an esteemed position in society or else its carry over till you die.

Our lecturers deserve what they re getting now, after all they also help to rig elections. (Remember all those Profs who announced collated results?)

Why on earth should an esteemed Prof accept to become a collation officer.

I was an adhoc staff in 2007 and the highest position for collation officers was OND, and they performed their duties well.

whenever I remember my days in University i will just cry, many of them don't deserve 50k salary. They all do do coded runs and sorting. they don't teach us with updated stuff. I can't employ any of my course mates without re-training them. I started enjoying education in National Open university, where you get your grades according to your labour and study.

back then we worship lecturers like gods, they can tell you you won't graduate!
many professors in Nigeria don't worth it.

He’s right that many lecturers are not competent. The thing is that the whole system is fvcked up and they transfer their frustrations on students because they can.
To be fair, the behavior of everyone is terrible, both students and lecturers, but na the lecturers own bad pass.

What you said is 100% right but there is a condition that MUST be met before Nigerian professors are judged based on your foreign yardstick.

Admissions in Nigeria is still based on sentiments such as.
A.Quota system
B. Catchment areas
C. Educationally less privileged
D. Gender inclusiveness
E. Pro chancellor, Political, and VCs list

This is not obtainable abroad where admission is mostly on merit. This makes is easier for both the students and the professors.
I hope you acknowledge this fact as well.
Peace out!

The rate of failure is not the fault of the Professors, rather it is a pointer to the quality of our educational system. Atleast 80% of undergrads have no business there. What do you expect? Haven't you seen videos of interviews conducted by some skit make? You'd weep for Nigeria.

You have made one of the most valid points so far. And that is the fact that 80% of the undergrads have no business being there. Truth but very bitter.

Someone with a miracle center assisted WASC results, same fellow with 204 in JAMB where a student scored 356 and a below average post UTME offered admission thru the assistance of friends and relatives will of course claim that lecturers are failing him.

Very typical.
