starstunna1313: Infact, for proper context, as at today, 1 USD equals 630 naira. As such 24million naira today equals 38K USD. It could easily equal 20K USD in a year following current trajectory. Infact, the folks relocating are the smart ones. Diesel is 800 naira per liter. Average lekki serviced flats spend almost 750k per month on utilities. 4 Likes |

baby124: Yes childcare expenses are a huge deal. I’ve been realistic about it many many times on here. You know sometimes when you speak about too many figures it appears to some people like you are showing off. But at some point I paid more 1200/month for child care. I’ve been realistic about that. That phase does come and go. It’s not forever. That’s why I always say people who have family members that they can rely on have struck gold. Our people always find a way. Some use church groups where the moms and grandmas baby sit each other’s kids. Can’t discourage anyone from coming because child care is expensive. People come here and even have 5 kids. I don’t know how they do it but they do. 6 Likes |

Because people don't pay BILLS in Nigeria or what? Some spend 2 million fuelling their GENERATOR at place of work for just a month. Is that not Bill... Some still pay NEPA BILLS for the Light they are yet to see Is that not Bill? People settle Nigerian POLICE on their way to work for a crime they know nothing of... Is that not Bill..? People think Nigerians don't pay Bills Then pray make KIDNAPPERS no catch... Dem get their own Bill too.. 4 Likes 1 Share |

cococandy:A lot of our people here have ended up in prison because they see a luxury life on Instagram and they do not know how much work goes into that. They do not realize that 80% of Americans do not live like that. In short time, these people get arrested for fraud. Most people take time to find their way and even then, the cost of living is also high. When they see they cannot flex, rolling in luxury cars and luxury homes, they start to get desperate. I have seen this a lot. The face is in America and all these countries to earn that pay they will make you work for it. You earn your stripes and you pass through the ropes. 3 Likes |

baby124: You are over generalizing to suit a certain narrative. I think the point that folks have to work hard to earn their stripes have been established. But you seem to aim at projecting failed stories for most Nigeria immigrants which that is untrue. The success stories far outweigh the few failure stories. And most of those failures would still fail if they were in Nigeria. So let it be….. 4 Likes |

GreatAxeMan: Oga, Lekki is not New York or even Ghana. Lekki is in the same garbage can called Lagos. The only expensive thing to worry about in Lekki is rent, which he can very clearly afford. Every other thing can be gotten cheaper from mainland every other weekend. Enough of all these "Lekki is very expensive". So many things are more expensive in Benin and Portharcourt than in Lagos. Those who have travelled well will tell you. It's all about perception, budgeting and planning. 3 Likes |

In my experience, Nigerians abroad are well respected members of the society. The majority are not into illegal activities. The ones that go into illegal activities will do so regardless of where they find themselves. And of course the media will use them for scapegoats thereby creating a narrative that many of us are into fraudulent activities. It’s all part of the racist propaganda. And you’re right you have to earn your way. I never said otherwise. baby124: 5 Likes |

frog12:Don’t mind that guy. Lol. Some people had to sell their house to pay for their healthcare or terminal illness. They think America is like UK that has public access to healthcare. Your healthcare in America is as good as what you can afford. If you lose your job, you lose your healthcare. Even while employed, you pay and your employer subsidizes. 1 Like |

People keep saying they want to leave Nigeria for Europe so their kids will grow up in a better atmosphere. Actually, if you are Nigerian or black, Nigeria is the best place for your kids to grow up in. If you research, you'll find that the majority of successful Nigerians abroad were brought up in Nigeria or had their formative years in Nigeria. I can't stress hard enough how vital it is for you as a Nigerian to let your kids go grow up in Nigeria. Send or take them abroad after 12 years old if you want. Your children are best raised in Nigeria, if you want them to become strong, confident, kind and capable adults. 6 Likes |

cococandy:About 70% of those who lived a big life that I knew are now in prison when they were finally exposed. . America is not for those who don’t have patience and are not content. The fact is most of them move because they want to live a lifestyle they see the ones who pose as very rich are living. Those ones have to spend what they did not work for to live like that. The purpose of this thread was to compare cost of living. Nigeria vs US. The truth is, there are some salaries you earn in Nigeria that you should not resign your job to travel to US. Most people taking that leap do not have papers. They do not understand the process and what it takes. Most are in their mid 40’s when they make this transition. Without realizing America is age discriminatory when it comes to ageism/jobs. Though they like to deny it. Then you end up not being able to get a job in your career. After hustling about 5yrs or more to get paper. By the time they are ready to enter the workforce, they are about 50yrs. 2 Likes |

baby124: Yes healthcare in America is another beast to contend with. Topic for another day I guess. Some doctors are doing a membership program now where you can bypass insurance and pay a monthly membership fee where you can get all your healthcare needs for an affordable fee. They also work with labs and imaging centers to boycott insurance. It’s kinda new but it’s catching on from what I’ve seen. Because both the doctors and their patients are tired of the insurance companies. 4 Likes |

cococandy:When I lived there my insurance payment was about 400 a month. That’s with employer subsidizing. If I paid by myself, it will be a lot more. And that was not the best healthcare option. Just for one person at the time. I wonder what new solutions Dr’s can provide, being that the health care salaries are responsible for the cost of healthcare. Seems most people are doing without insurance now to avoid the costs. Except the Dr’s are willing to take a pay cut. |

Flets: I am telling you bro. Why do they think all these politicians are sending their kids abroad to live. Most of them can afford to give them 2 milking every month without working for it. But bro them don calculate am… All the folks saying that people abroad are complaining, there is no place working hard is sweet. But not to compare staying in Nigeria because of 2m naira salary a month.. Like I said, for me I will keep turning it down. 2 million naira with low life expectancy. Most of these people saying they will stay believe me na because they never see the chance to leave. 6 Likes |

baby124:well that’s terrible. I don’t feel sorry for them though The purpose of this thread was to compare cost of living. Nigeria vs US. The truth is, there are some salaries you earn in Nigeria that you should not resign your job to travel to US.again that’s true. But I’m on the side of those saying leaving a 24m/year job is worth it. Just my opinion though based on what I’ve seen. If the pay was more, I’d have said maybe not. Our currency keeps going down. Most people taking that leap do not have papers. They do not understand the process and what it takes. Most are in their mid 40’s when they make this transition.for the ones doing it without papers knowing they are going to be hiding and doing minimum wage jobs, it’s just foolishness. And makes no sense. For the older ones in their 40s, if they have a skill and a job offer in America, I can support them to leave. I mean they are technically expatriates. Lol Without realizing America is age discriminatory when it comes to ageism/jobs. Though they like to deny it. Then you end up not being able to get a job in your career. After hustling about 5yrs or more to get paper. By the time they are ready to enter the workforce, they are about 50yrs. I will say though. For healthcare we don’t discriminate. At Any age as long as you’re physically able, you’re welcome. We need more people. Begging folks everyday to come work with extra pay incentives etc. Yet people are running away. So age is not a barrier in this field. For other fields though I don’t know. 2 Likes |

Concerning the children aspect, I would even venture to suggest that if possible, or as a political/social policy movement, all black people in the World send their children to Africa or Caribbean - especially to Nigeria in Africa - to school. Black children need to be in an all black environment in their formative years. If you're Nigerian don't fall for all those pushing babies in a fancy pram nonsense..... 2 Likes |

cococandy:Oh, America is very age discriminatory. In healthcare they may not be because of the need. Health care is high risk, high stress and most people don’t like being around sick people. You have to be strong mentally. It’s not an easy career. They are beggars so they can’t be choosers. As for other fields especially IT, there is discrimination. Most of the people japaing are not young, they are in their 40’s. America is not a place to japa without paper. Better to go to Canada. https://www.seattletimes.com/business/microsoft-employee-files-discrimination-lawsuit/ |

cococandy:Healthcare salaries then will drop because hospitals will not be able to bill those insurance companies for outrageous fees like they currently do. This is why healthcare workers in the UK earn significantly less. |
