For those calling it a twitter story,I know of a family like this, they own a duplex in lekki, very high paying jobs, the wife earns a little over a million monthly but they relocated to the US with their kids, they nearly sold their house but a relation was able to talk some sense into them. Now it's been three years since they moved and the wife is still jobless not due to lack of jobs but the type.

The position posted is an on-call/night shift job offer. Which means this is a position without any benefit, and the RN can only be called to work if there are open shifts. Work is not guaranteed. However, due to the RN shortage, there's a high possibility of getting called in.

Additionally, night differential played a big role in the pay bump. Also, the position is in oncology, which means the RN has to be certified in other to handle chemotherapy.

So, three things in play here: on-call, night shift, and specialized area. This is not your typical RN wage, with benefits, even in the country of California.

Yes you’re right. Doctors are not the average folks. The only reason I even mentioned them is because you said that $149k/yr looks like Dr pay. Doctors make way more. That was my point.

Here’s another nurse’s job offer. She’s also my colleague. In fact I’ll be posting numbers henceforth since words don’t seem to be enough.

At $94/hr working only 36 hours a week 3 days week, she’s making $175k/year. No overtime. In fact her organization is unionized therefore every shift she works that’s is over 8 hours she makes extra 50% per hour on the hour.

I’m waiting for another friend to text me her pay stub.

Let’s put a stop to misinformation

Do you know all the insults that come with that salary at MPR monthly?

Useless comments that can make one to commit suicide. Comments like
" you can't make it in life!
"You are a destroyer!
"You can't add value"
" We will remove you be the end of the month!

Banking job is about unrealistic target. Once you met one, the goal post will be shifted.

Do you know that about 80% of the bankers are managing BP?

To be sincere, #24million annually is a big and good money if the dignity is still there but the labour laws in Nigeria favor the capitalist and not the labourers.

Let the man go and try a new life

No the differential is never added to the pay rate as part of the offer. It’s usually calculated differently. So it would be that pay plus the differential. Which is over 100/hr. Yes that one doesn’t come with benefits but it’s better than 50/hr with benefits.

Oncology certification takes 3 months to get after (you’re already an RN) of course.
Healthcare is begging for workers now. There are always guaranteed hours. Na you go run. If you want to work 5 days a week, they’ll thank you and beg you to come.

I don’t understand all these arguments sha.

What about the other positions I shared that are full time with benefits?

I done tire sha. I know there will be arguments.

He will probably make $3200 a week within two years in UK, I know of so many Nigeria youth working in IT earning that amount of money.
I don't know ur circle and those around you, but people who earn this amount in Nigeria are less than 2% of the population. Again as I said, it's not always about money. After earning this amount, ure stuck with the bad roads, Ill equipped hospitals, insecurity and the likes. The amount your friends will spend going to a good hospital is what an average person there will have as basic health care. The school fees they will pay for their childs 'quality' ducation here is what is considered basic and free over there. The amount your friends will spend on getting a good and secure place to live here is considered as average over there....Our 'luxury" is their "basic". There is collective poverty in Nigeria. The truth is that even though 'the abroad' is not a land flowing with milk and honey, the quality of life is generally better....In the end though, everyone has different goals in life and these goals influence the decisions we make

He made a good decision leaving that job. He is making 2 million.
* He has no electricity
* he has no good healthcare
* he likely is spending hours in traffic and bad roads
* he can be kidnapped at any time and the government will do nothing about it
* he has a chance to get a British passport for either himself or his kids (this passport is priceless once you get it. You can loose money but your citizenship last generations) which means he or his children/grand children will not be queuing up for visas, he will be respected at airports not disrespected because you are carrying a green passport

One can easily make more that 40 million Naira in the US/Uk if you are educated and hardworking

40m is about 26 million after tax though.

I don’t have anything else to say. This argument is futile. Mind you I never said that’s what all RNs make. I only posted those figures because my post was called suspicious. As if I made it up.

Now you’re coming to say it’s not typical like I said it was. Stop putting words in my mouth

It may not be a fabrication. Last September, one of my best friends left Nigeria and a salary of N36m with a bank and came out here with his wife and children for a masters degree. He is about completing his thesis and has no plans of going back to Naija. If you are hardworking, professionally educated and you are not a Nigerian thief, you will quickly realise how so very dangerous that country is.

Moreover, N36m is about £48K in Pounds. An individual who is a professional should be able to make at least twice that in a year, after a masters degree. Their children will go to schools that have already been paid for by the taxes taken from every citizen. They will be relatively safe compared to Nigeria. Naturally, they have had to give up some stuff to come here. The huge house in Lagos and the camaraderie between friends and neighbours in Nigeria which they may not be able to replicate here. But at least they will still be alive and their children will have a chance at life, meaningful life where if you work hard, you can become the best you can be. And you don't have to become a Nigerian thief to be successful.

Two million naira 3years ago was about $5,500. Today it is equivalent to approximately $3,200. Cost of living and inflation is rising in Nigeria. For most people that relocate, it's not always about the money but the quality of life and opportunities available there. People say we don't spend in foreign currency but as long as our economy is imports driven, we will always feel the effect of our weak naira one way or the other....For those in the diaspora who complain about bills and taxes, I always wonder why they have refused to come back sha.
Most na shame ... E no easy anywhere ... Nowhere is safe ... People die in these places too...

An expensive state, living in the trenches, rent is 2k per month for 1bedroom. I am currently in the US on travel. In good areas you are paying 3k-4K per month for one bedroom. Let’s not factor in costs of living. Healthcare alone you pay for, retirement you also pay for. Childcare you pay a lot for. Let’s be realistic and not keep telling people the life is luxurious. Most Americans after bills barely save. If you are now the type that wants a luxurious life, you will struggle.
Average rent in US for 1bd room is less than $2k unless you live in San Francisco or Manhattan NYC.
US life is luxury compared to Naija. Average diesel price in the US@$5.4/gal while in Naija N850/litre x 4 =1gl=N3400 in Nais vs $5.4/gal x N615=N3,321. Minimum wage in Naija is N30k/m while minimum wage in the US is $7.25
Now compare a doctor in Naija vs Us
A truck driver in Naija vs US
A university lecturer in Naija vs US
Security guard in Naija vs US.
After paying all bills, Naija is US are still ahead.
Comparing what a bank CEO makes in Naija vs what A US security guard makes, is a beer parlor logic to enunciate.

chief, getting a £96k white collar job in the UK no be beans, the average is around £50k.
And I mean professional jobs.
Remove tax and living expenses and you'd see that someone earning N36m in Nigeria will save way more.
Your friend is either not making N36m like he claims or isn't sure of the longevity of the job that paid him that.
Most of the people I know with secure jobs of 2.5m a month in Nigeria have their wives and kids in Canada and they're funding them from here.
Make una take am easy!
Mostly the oil big boys do that. But then they earn way more that 2m.2m is for the freshers and co

I agree with your points. At the same time, you may want to understand it's a family decision, not just his personal decision.

Many people leave Nigeria and their well paying jobs to get a good atmosphere to raise their kids in. Not all parents want their kids out of school cos of ASUU/ASUP strikes when they can prevent that in saner climes.

I know more than 10 parents that left Nigeria this year alone cos they want something else for their kids, not necessarily themselves.

Once we are married and have kids, our decisions go beyond ourselves alone, our spouses and kids have to be factored in and sometimes we have to make necessary sacrifices, especially for the kids.
True. Not only finances matter.

If you get sick in Naija you die faster. Kidney dialysis alone is N100k per session.. x 3x a wk=N300k x 4 =N1.2m , so you need N16m a year to be alive.. excluding other medications, housing and feeding. Look at the Ekweremadus.. Average life expectancy is 55yrs
If you have money, that life expectancy matters less to you. How many politicians die young?

They made the right decision leaving the hell hole called Nigeria!

If possible, everyone should leave the place for those who don't like progress.

A country where they slice off someone's head and shoot because of small money?

Best decision for them!

Not arguing with you. What you posted is not a lie, but I Just want to put things in perspective, for those that may not be aware.

Do I think RNs should make more than they are currently earning? For the abuse they take daily, in addition to the wear and tear, of course I do.
