I think you are creating an entity you imagine exist in nigeria.mini grids are operated by DISCOS ie eko power distribution company..This silly bill also equates the minimum you can generate to 1MW.then U will have to create your own disco.As we speak the only part that the man on the street can take part as obtainable today is to sell power.
The right way would have been for us to sell power to the National Grid.

This policy will still end up frustrating private players that enters the power industry.

I think the wordings is wrong.What they meant is what is on ground now as at today.So they have said nothing new rather than tell us some Discos have been taken over by banks.I saw this coming anyway cos I cnt see them making any money

Actually according to the bill the states would only be required to forward 12% of generated electricity within their state to the National grid

This law would have been good except for the must part. It shouldn't be a must for me to sell power generated to the national grid.

I can generate and sell locally and any excess can be sold to the grid.

This is what Tinubu wanted all along even before some of these loud Obidients were born. He build a power station for Lagos but Obj seized it.

Imagine the number of sachet water producer in this country yet sachet water is still expensive, that is why some people are still taking ordinary water instead of the process packaging water,
Also check order product that has much producer, their price is very high.
So, I m sure similar situation will come up in this power generation process too.

Power generation and Transmission is something PDP started since OBJ era...the reforms was continued with completion of 9 Power generating stations by Jonathan...The next aspect is focus on Transmission...which is stalled by now and that explains collapse of lower grid.

We are generating ..but the transmission lines do not have the capacity to transmit the power generated. The government need to focus on this aspect.

According to the bill that has been passed,States will be bestowed with that mandate and responsibility or they sensibly give out licenses to individuals or power companies to generate,transmit and distribute power supply!
The old or current era of power supply through the national grid is not sustainable and can not provide adequate and constant power to everyone!
Whether a former or aspiring government started it is no longer an issue.....the issue has been resolved by the senate and every state will be free to solve their own power problem on their own without relying on the national grid!

This means what is currently obtainable where power generators send to the national grid would stop when the law becomes effective.

Why not allow those generating little megawatts to distribute to their locality? Nigeria and bottle neck, these guys always look for ways to make life difficult for entrepreneurs.

As much as this bill would have solved some problem in the power sector the issue of supplying the generated power to national grid is a bill killer!

America generates 1014TW per annum. This generation is made up of modular power plant that are perculiar to regions i.e coal, hydro, nuclear, gas & steam turbines, solar and winds. All these plants transmits and distribute the generated electricity within the localities but calculates the electricity generated on a national grid. This system made them achieve near 100% transmission and distribution of generated electricity.

Localized Independent power plants (IPPs) will solve the problem of power transmission and distribution in the country and result to more efficient power sector.
