He's a CB, precisely LCB and he's signed to play as a CB. Board should spend on getting a DM, the Era of forcing players to play in another position in the name of versatility should be gone!
The question is not whether he is a DM or not, the question is "can he play DM?" The answer is yes...The first tike I saw him at Ajax in a UCL game, he played as a DM and was very good there it was only later I got to know he is a CB. He is also adept at playing LB...

Madrid have Alaba who can play CM, LB and CB based on need. Ancelotti has even come out to say in the absence of Mendy, Alaba will be used as a LB especially now they have Rudiger.

At City, Pep uses Cancelo in either fullback spot depending on player availability. We need a couple players who are versatile and in Martinez we have one...

The spending was a part of it. People have short memories.

When the system was in place with Fergie and David Gill. They refused to spend money.

Fergie created lots of excuses for them and had to recall Scholes from retirement to plug the hole in midfield.

It was when the system was gone with SAF and David Gill and they started missing out on UCL money that they started throwing money at the problem. This way they’ll get UCL football and… you guessed it - more money.

If the Glazers could make more money without investing in player transfers, trust me, they will. After all, that’s what they were doing before SAF left.

Man Utd is a badly run club because of the Glazers greed and blindness to everything else apart from money.
Fergie was just too powerful for you to say the Glazers didn't release money to buy players. Fergie just didn't buy a midfielder for reasons best known to him and not because of lack of funds...

I maintain that even if we had spent £3bn on transfers, it'd have seen us pay mich more than we did for those we got and not necessarily translate to success on the pitch...It's one thing to spend and it's another thing to spend well...

The records show we are on par with the highest spenders so, you can't distort it however you can rightly infer that we didn't spend wisely as many here have said before...

The Glazers are more about commercial success so, whilst they'd point to their huge spending over the past 10 years, they're liable for not demanding for sporting result in the same time frame...Ed Woodward should have been fired long ago and that's where the Glazers take the blame and not for lack of spending...They jist did not put the right sporting structure in place like they did at City...

Chelsea and City outspent Man Utd in Fergie’s last years. He played a major role in getting the Glazers into Man Utd. If he went against them publicly, it would affect him too.

You’re still making my point for me.

When SAF and David Gill left at the same time, the structure left with them. A few years later, when we lost UCL money, the nonsense spending started- without any structure whatsoever.

Ed’s job was to make Man Utd make more money, not to help the club achieve football success. That’s what the Glazers hired him to do.

And till today, they still maintain that mentality of money first, football last.

Abi why are Utd legends kids doing at Manchester City’s football academy?

You want us again to gamble on an unproven teenager who would cost nothing less than 30M. This is how we spent £37m on Amad and still haven't seen anything special about him.

Even before the game against Liverpool we were being linked. I hope we get him, he looks like the next big to happen in the striking department. Has the height, speed, technique, can dribble. I hope the club don't sleep on this.

No. If the club have decided that is the player they want then they should move fast. I am only advocating on them moving quickly to secure signings that they have identified.

when you're at the top, you spend less money.. look at liverpool and city, their spending are just to add up to positions they need to improve on or add depth. Arsenal spent the most last season and so far this season, because dey are playing catch up.. manu spent alot at a point because we were playing catch up.

united is not a club a player who wants to develop is career should join, unless we are going to loan him.. if he's wise, he should move to the likes of dortmund, and develop his game.. when he bangs goals there, big clubs will spend the money.. bayern hardly develops players, they just buy the best in their league.. City, Madrid etc.. if we buy him, clubs like ajax or dortmund that play good football, will not take him on loan because that's not their model, they buy and develop and sell for profit. Amad and pellistri would have been doing better if they went to clubs like that.. Sancho saw this at city and moved to dortmund, today he's developed into a better player than he was

So we should keep paying over the top for players because we can't develop them.

We have a coach now who specializes in training and developing talents. Manutd currently have some striking problems, we don't have a traditional number 9 who knows the art. CR7 isn't one and wants to leave, Martial is Martial. There's a clear path for Sesko to come in and nail down that spot.

This is not like the Sancho case at City or the Bellingham case where there are established senior players already in those positions.

Every player must not go to the likes of Dortmund or Ajax before they become world class.

This would’ve been true only if Chelsea and Man City had not piped the legendary Sir Alex to the title in the 3 years before his last season.

Look at the teams at the top now and how they’re spending.

Man City just won the league. They bought Haaland. Last season they splashed 100m on Graelish after they just won the league.

Even Liverpool are getting their transfer targets in time.

Then there’s Man Utd, who is playing catch-up and are spending years chasing after their targets.

These jokes write themselves.

I ignored you for some time here because you just can't have a debate without throwing cheap shots...

As for your argument, Moyes replaced SAF and instead of chasing realistic target, he spent the whole summer chasing players who didn't want to coke or whose club were not willing to sell just like EtH is doing now...In a few years you guys will blame the Glazers for the potential mistake EtH is well on his way to making. The only difference is that we have at least got Malacia, Lisandro and Eriksen this time...

Even if I want to put your logic to test, we are out of the UCL why then are we not spending money anyhow? I guess you'll accept it's down to EtH who has his targets and is willing to wait for as long as the window is open...When things go south, don't blame the Glazers rather EtH...

As I said, the Glazers fault is not setting up a good structure which should go hand in hand with the money spent thus if you must blame the Glazers, blame them for not getting the right people to manage the football aspect of the club and not for lack of spending because the facts are there for all to see that we have spent just as much as our peers...

There’s no need to get offended.

And you’re still making my point.

You think I’m saying the problem is that the Glazers are not spending money. But that’s just one of the issues.

When there was a structure , they refused to spend.

When the structure went away they started throwing money at the problem and didn’t create the structure they should’ve.

We hired Rangnick for a job he’s not particularly good at and promised him the role he is really good at.

And when it was time for the round peg to get into the round hole, they let him go. Right?

We recently had a chance to sign Paul Mitchell. We also let that one go.

Do you think we would be having the current nonsense and embarrassing TW if we had Rangnick and Paul Mitchell at the club?

The only good thing we did this TW was to sign EtH. That’s it.

The Glazers have a track record of doing the bare minimum. If you don’t realize that and think it’s only about spending money, then I leave you to yourself.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 2:36pm On Jul 28, 2022
The successful clubs today have a good scouting and transfer system, a good coaching system, and a good structure.

Real Madrid. Liverpool. Man City. Etc.

They have all that in place.

But we should hail the Glazers because they spent money the club generated recklessly on player wages and transfers.

Multiple people on Reddit said Ten Hag once said he's not so good as a DM. He said he lacked running power or something. I'll look for where he said it later.

But if a player is just average at DM position in the Dutch league, he'll definitely struggle in the EPL.

Lol, which manager doesn't want signings every summer? You think SAF didn't want to splash money? Is it his money? Rooney even took the matter up with him sef.

There's nothing SAF could do. He obviously had enough to still at least dominate the league. He wasn't going to threaten to resign or something. Cuz the only way SAF was going to leave United was to retire.

In the building of that City and Liverpool team, if they had missed one summer of getting those players in, I don't think they'd have gotten to the level they are.

Check our history, apart from Ole, the Glaziers have always backed the manager initially them throw him to the dogs after minimal success.

Even with Ole, how much was the net spend the last 2 years after the sale of Daniel James and Lukaku. And you want to catch up with City and Liverpool lmao.

If things continue like that. We'll get FDJ and Antony this summer. But just forget about the next summer. Even Richard Arnold hinted at that if you read between the lines.

Nitroggen seems to have convinced some people to absolve Joel and his brothers of some blame.

If those voices are not silenced quickly, they will impose another agenda on the club.
