Let's be realstic here. Are the lecturers not government staffs?
Are they the only government staffs?
Is there not a laid down payment for all staffs in various government parastatal?

Why then should that of the lecturers be different?

Am sure we all know that every last sector in Nigeria is under funded. It isnt just the academic sector. So should all staffs in all sectors now go on strikes to demand that the government FUND or IMPROVE their sector?

Should all staffs in all sectors compare their salaries with that of senators?

Answers to these questions will show us if the prolonged strike is really justified or not.

Oga you just dey yarn out of point. The ENTIRE university system is on strike, not just ASUU. Even if ASUU call off strike today, you think say students for resume school? Hehehe you dey jonz my guy.

Govt work na to fund ALL sectors under it's purview. If it can't, it should privatize them. Where's the comparison for the other unions on strike? Why you never tackle them? Each of them have been on strike for more than 3 months, while ASUU is 5.

Where's the analysis for them to go back to work because sectors are underfunded? Who underfunded them? Who made money scarce? People like you deserve Buhari and this govt. Keep siding your oppressors simply because you or your friends are still at home because of a strike that is meant to fight for everybody.

ASUU demands are outrageous and unrealistic, the federal government cannot afford to commit that whole lot to these insensitive, lazy and incompetent lecturers.ASUU has destroyed the university educational system in the country with their their constant strikes and over bearing attitude and incompetencies of it's members.they should do an in house purging to save our citadel of learning, everything in life is not all about money. They should never be paid, infact the goverment should proscribe ASSU.the incoming president should handle the education ministry by himself.God will judge them.

You have deviated a little with your wrong choice of words. You seemed not to understand the nature of this struggle that started before you were born I guess.
I am a postgraduate student that believed in the health of Nigeria's education system.
If a lecturer is lazy there is no way he or she will meet the stringent requirements for becoming a senior fellow.
Secondly, this government uses propaganda alot and if you kowtow to it then you are doomed. This agreement was signed in 2009 so what stopped the implementation. ASUU has agreed to renegotiation and that is the reason why a timeline was given to that event.
Are you also aware that it took the federal government over 2 months to call ASUU to the table for negotiation after the strike commenced?
What then is your definition of patriotism? Federal government does not have the power to proscribe ASUU except an industrial court. Use your brain to think through this puzzle, if ASUU demands are not in line with the principles of collective bargaining, why don't the federal government approach the industrial court for resolution. Think for yourself.

Why should they get paid when they are not working?

The only reason why they have not tried to bend and end the strike is because they know they will still pay at the very end.

At the end of the day, it's the students that will lose. Most people will exceed the age limit of 30, and may not qualify to go and serve because of ASUU strike.
EXACTLY!

Many students will be unable to meet nysc condition of been less than 30 years.

Money that they will still get in arrears?

Govt is helping them save it.

For a fact we will only be deceiving ourselves if we believe the bogus story that ASUU is fighting for the improvement of the educational sector.
We all know the TRUTH.
ASUU is mainly fighting for it's pocket. Most essentially their fight is against the proscribed payment mode of the government which is going to curb their excesses.

Now explain to me why my employee will decide for me the mode of payment I will use for them? When all other employees in other sectors are put under a particular payment system. Why must ASUU want to be different?

We all know corruption is heavy in this country, and that our politicians are bunch of thieves, that doesn't mean you should compare yourselves with them. If u want to be like them and enjoy their largesse, simply join them.

All the university unions rejected IPPIS because it doesn't capture their perculiarities like sabbatical and age of retirement. Questions were asked if those perculiarities can be captured on IPPIS template, the answer was no by the government agent. That means wider consultations was NOT done before implementation.
Again, NNPC, PPMC, FIRS and many other agencies are not on IPPIS. If IPPIS stops corruption how comes the former accountant general stole so much from this platform.
Let me inform you that you can still use other platforms to pay university workers and then plug it into IPPIS at the same time to check leakages.
The act that created the federal UNIVERSITY is that of the national assembly, a wise government that may want to do this should first send IPPIS as an executive bill through the national assembly.
You and I know that the national assembly debate will expose the fraud behind at the technical session hence federal government is lily livered.

You call this a fight?

You are mistaken!
It is simply a sabbatical leave. It only becomes a fight when you don't get paid and will never get paid.

They should privatize the system and let us see how you will go on strike and not work for 6 months and still expect to be paid later. For doing NOTHING.

Don't we have private universities? How much do they get paid? How quality is the quality or standard of the education there?

Don't make the mistake of believing I support the government in all of these. I don't. However fact remains that these ASUUs excesses have actually become too much.

Facing reality we know the nation is living on borrowed funds. I guess we are all prepared for what will really happen when we get the privatization we are subtling calling for.

Your country is broke! Face it.

All teachers need to be paid well and they deserve high salaries, as long as they are qualified and are impacting into the next generation.

Building up the generation who should be highly skilled and competent requires competent teachers from Nursery to the University.

The teaching profession is underestimated only in countries that are planning to fail.
