In case you don't know, National Root Crop Research institutes have been on strike since last year and yet they are still being paid.

Please this doesn't sound logical.

How can a man refuse to work and still expect to get paid?

Then stop the strike. Why should you be paid for no work? That is why you can go on strike every two years. May God forbid any salaries.

It is easy to blame them because you are not involved in their pains.
I have twice turned down lecturing job because of the very poor salary.
Do you know how much Nigerian lecturers are paid? Entry point is just above #100,000.
It has been like this for many years.
What do you do with that with the astronomical rise of cost of living in this country?
If Nigeria is too poor to pay lecturers well, why then do our political leaders earn and live in luxury as if we are the richest country in the world?
Why should a senator earn over #25 million per month while a professor earns less than #500,000 per month. A medical consultant earns less than #700,000 per month while a senator with SSCE earns tens of millions.
Why should our govt refuse to standardize our higher institutions but send their children to standard schools outside the country?
Why can't our Govt upgrade our hospitals but run overseas to be treated in hospitals with Nigerian doctors.
This are the roots of the crisis in the education and health sector and other sectors.
Our Govt is the problem. Our political leaders should see themselves as servant leaders and not as people who should use our collective resources to live in luxury while they pay peanuts to civil servants among whom are seasoned and skilled professionals.

Please stop comparing sane countries with ours because there's nothing sane about Nigeria. Where governments pay striking workers, it means that they rarely strike. That's not the case here.

FG can save their money and pay them when the issues are resolved. Withholding their salaries will compel them to negotiate. I totally agree with no work, no pay.

I pray for those students every day and ASUU, this is one of the reasons I come to this forum to voice out my anger and protest against the Buhari and Apc useless government
When you speak against the Apc agents they call you names that you hate Buhari or Tinubu

ASUU is not the only body affected in that regard. It's a national problem.
Why go on strike and waste students time when you know you have insensitive government who doesn't even mind the strike lasting for 10 years cos it doesn't affect them and their kids in anyway?
ASUU are party to electing useless politicians too.
A lot of students lose their lives and get kidnapped traveling home and coming back during their annual incessant needless strikes.

ASUU are banking on the society to help them put FG under pressure, but even the two days NLC protest didn't move the government one bit.
So let ASUU stay home for two years, they know even if they don't get paid their now, the accumulated wages will be paid later, that's why it's easy for them to embark on strikes with no interest to consider other alternatives.

I agree, our teachers and Lecturers should be paid highly, their salaries should starts from 400, 000 thousand. Only the best graduates should be employed who can also impact knowledge and treat student kindly and appropriately.

But there's limit to the duration of the strike.
No sane country anywhere will be paying striking unions for 6 months.
Needless to say no sane union will be on strike in a sane country for 6 months.

FG made a mistake by paying earned allowance during the strike.
Truth is many lecturers enjoy this yearly strike and look forward to it, cos they see it as a long vacation and have the belief that they will get their salary one way or another.

ASUU leadership didn't consider the state of Nigeria's economy before embarking on this strike. Embarking on this kind of long strike at a time when Nigeria statehood is facing all manners of problems is not a wise thing to do. Radicalism should be counterbalanced by realistic reasoning.

Right now the Federal Government borrows to pay salaries. We'll soon get to a point where the Federal Government starts laying off workers. And ASUU is radically asking for salary increase; after all Senators are receiving huge money. If every Federal worker starts reasoning that way, what do you think will happen?

You are insensitive, inconsiderate and shallow- minded. Have you bothered to find out how much lecturers are paid?
If Nigeria is poor, what have our political leaders including senators done to reduce the cost of governance? They are human beings like every Nigerian, why do they deserve to live in luxury while others suffer on peanut salary.
FG IS AT FAULT FOR THE STRIKES.

The Federal Colleges of Education are currently on strike and they are still getting their salaries sad
ASUU, NAAT, SSANU and NASU, all went on strike in the Federal Universities, only the salaries of ASUU and NAAT were stopped! Why?

All are not paid. No one is collecting salary right now. ASUU salary was stopped 5 months ago. Nasu and SSANU salary was stopped three months ago. So by August, ASUU would be owed 6 months salary while NASU and SSANU would be owed 4 months salary.

Exactly. If government continue paying them for months not worked, the typical Nigerian spirit will come up. You'll discover ASUU will start going on strike for very flimsy reasons, since they'll still be paid.

To me, let government just close eyes and pay the accrued allowances that's the object of the current election, but ensure they don't pay them for the months they didn't work.

Then, whatever reply ASUU gives to this will show it they truly wish for the best for Nigerian education, or just a group of greedy individuals

You don't even know your anything. Is it new to you about the rule of no work, no pay?
Ask workers they will tell you better. Only if the government decides, there's nothing new here.

The thing new is that hardship is generally biting harder now due to inflation and bad economy. Cost of essential commodities are at the highest level ever! Nobody finds it easy giving out financial help to ASUU members because the economy is not smiling on them too. Even banks are very careful with giving out loans.

However, ASUU should be ready to sacrifice their salaries as part of the patriotic struggle. If students are at home sacrificing their time and future, ASUU too should sacrifice their salaries as long as the strike lasts. Something has to give to gain something. It is natural law!

The interesting part is that these ASUU folks can't take a tenth of what they're doing to FG.

They rule with impunity and dictatorship over students on campus.

Small misunderstanding, they have proscribed student union and sent students home for months.

Especially that OAU. They are always victimising student leaders. They are always quick to serve indefinite suspension to student union leaders.

ASUU is the devil. Although, FG isn't a saint.
Many of their followers don't support their recklessness but they dare not speak.

FG should use the western divide and conquer strategy on ASUU. I'm sure many ASUU 'members' are fed up with ASUU and will gladly leave if their job isn't at stake.

I support your submission on this. I have made similar comments too before. ASUU as a body or individual lecturers will never allowed students to hold them to ransom, never. I could recalled the days of SABURI in OAU. the guy was sent to jail all because of his grandstanding with the school authority.

Why should they get paid when they are not working?

The only reason why they have not tried to bend and end the strike is because they know they will still pay at the very end.

At the end of the day, it's the students that will lose. Most people will exceed the age limit of 30, and may not qualify to go and serve because of ASUU strike.
