Between the last time we had a conversation and now, my immediate younger brother has moved from an above 200k job to an above 700k job. Last time we spoke, he told me he's never doing any job that pays in naira again.

Our last born who recently graduated has also moved from a 70k job to a 155k job and there's no end in sight to how many other jobs with better pay he's still going to get.

People who know what they are doing and have the cash to support are even applying and getting 50-100k pound jobs in UK right from Nigeria. The only reason they can do that is because of the experience they gathered from those salary job.

Good luck applying to UK with an uber experience.

I know someone who started his career in the internal audit department of a bank here in Nigeria as an ET. He moved to a big four audit firm from there and as of today is now in a sister audit firm in UK. The entire thing happened between 2018 and 2022. He started with a little over 150k in Nigeria, today he earns multiple times that amount. The sky is his limit. Can you show us one single uber driver with that level of increase in earnings?

That is why you cannot and should not compare the two. From where I'm standing, it's apples and oranges

Between the last time we had a conversation and now, my immediate younger brother has moved from an above 200k job to an above 700k job. Last time we spoke, he told me he's never doing any job that pays in naira again.

Nice how you intentionally strayed from the crux of the conversation. Which is that people need to get high paying skills and leave useless salary work. Emphasis on "useless". Not all salary work is useless. IT is a skill, driving is a skill. Etc skills. Get a high paying skill that beats Nigeria's inflation.

Nigeria is dying. Currency is going to shit. There are only 35million full-time employed people in Nigeria. You think there are no more than 35 million qualified for those positions? What happens to the rest of them?

Now you used your brother as example. How many other such examples can you make? I'm not saying they don't exist, but how many? IT is an emerging force a lot of people are getting certified in IT and earning mega bucks. I know people who earn 2 million monthly here in Nigeria. People who also get incremental salaries. The statistical data is not enough for me to deem all well and good. Can everyone go into IT?

Between the last time we spoke, there are millions of Lagosians earning less than 100k and I've been a strong advocate for them to resign such nonsense jobs and get a skill and start earning. There are millions of graduates making dresses, baking cakes, driving uber, riding delivery bikes, etc. Many of them go on to create their own mega companies from the experience they got. Experience that may never be gotten doing jobs with meagre salaries.

The last time we spoke, dollar was 500. That's $200 USD to a 100k salary earner. Today it's $138. It'll only get worse. If it's so good as you claim, why are graduates still driving? I know one particular graduate here who is a diehard believer in office work, but baba still dey drive uber going 5 years now, why isn't he doing his small salary work? Because he knows his japa plans cannot be fulfilled by nonsense money.

Between the last time we spoke and now you needed about 7,000,000 to comfortably japa from this country. How much do you need now with the fall of the naira?

The resident clown on this thread can testify. Was it a salary job that helped him to japa?

kanuisagoat:

Our last born who recently graduated has also moved from a 70k job to a 155k job and there's no end in sight to how many other jobs with better pay he's still going to get.

Your last born was able to be patient in that job because he had people feeding him and encouraging him. How many people in Nigeria has that luxury? A lot of people were born with a financial disadvantage. You think it's everyone that has the luxury of patience when they have no one to fall on and they have dependants? Many times you see on front page people asking how to survive with their current 30,000, 36,000, 50,000 naira salaries. Do you also advice them to hold on for a better job because your last born got a better job probably thru connection?

Yo! We know what's up in Nigeria when it comes to job placements. How many people have the luxury of going thru all that?

kanuisagoat:

People who know what they are doing and have the cash to support are even applying and getting 50-100k pound jobs in UK right from Nigeria. The only reason they can do that is because of the experience they gathered from those salary job.

Good. People who now what they are doing and have the cash... Hold on right there.

Almost everyone knows what they are doing but no cash. How do they raise cash? Remaining in the jobs? Yo! Ehailing is a means to such end for many people. A lot have used it to raise money and achieved their dreams. Why shouldn't others be encouraged to do the same? You think I want to drive forever?

The problem isn't getting a UK job. The problem is funding. Where do you get funding? If Nigerian jobs were that fantastic, why are people looking for UK jobs in the first place? How many people have access to funding? Why should they sit on their asses when they can make good use of available opportunities it this present Nigerian realism?

kanuisagoat:

Good luck applying to UK with an uber experience.

There is nothing wrong with an uber experience. If uber experience is bad, they wouldn't have uber drivers in UK. You think uber driving experience doesn't count for nothing to people who leave Nigeria to get driving jobs? You think Nigerians leave Nigeria for salary only salary work abroad? Experience is Experience. Were you expecting a nurse to apply to a bank? Survival is key. When time comes for uber experience, it will be used. Do you know I have a background in IT? You think I'm stupid for driving?

What is the statistics of current auditors in Nigeria compared to the statistics of graduated jobless auditors and what is the statistics of job placement adverts for auditors in Nigeria? That someone was fortunate doesn't mean everyone is fortunate. Should the remaining jobless ones fold their hands and applaud? Can they really hang on without someone feeding them?

The sky is the limit to any serious uber driver with high earnings. Cash flow. What millions of graduates and salary earners lack. Once you have sure savings of 3million naira a year, the sky is the limit. What you do with such money is now up to you. Between sure 3m and unsure salary work, which one do you think I'll always advocate for? Hope is good, but at a point in time, you take your life into your hands. Nigeria is not fantastic.

If you've read all these and you're still in a stupid job of 100k or less, its time to jump ship else you'll sink with inflation. Me I no kuku get problem.

Bro reality is the general denominator. When reality sets people will understand that "I dey gym" and "I dey gym" na two different things.
U can even have all d skills u need but no work.
