Adams Oshiomhole has accused some Christians chieftains of spearheading the opposition against ex-Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu in the build-up to the 2023 election.

The former All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman said the criticisms against the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket was unfortunate.

Oshiomhole told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday that the problems of Nigeria are bigger than disagreements over religion.

The Edo ex-governor described the position of critics to the emergence of Senator Kaskim Shettima as Tiubu’s running mate as blackmail.

“Those leading the campaign in the APC family – if they were such believers in Christianity – had the opportunity to canvass for votes for one of the Christian candidates.

“But they were on record as having led the campaign on the side of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, knowing very well that he is a Muslim,” he claimed.

The former labour leader stated that Nigerian challenges are beyond religion.

“The issues we have to spend time discussing is what will any of the presidential candidates do differently, not what will a Christian or Muslim do,” he said.

Oshiomhole also faulted claims that Christians were being persecuted, saying there was no evidence of such.

“I don’t think they bothered to show the evidence and yet we have not just a Christian Vice-President, we have a pastor, a senior advocate”, he stressed.

Christians who worked for Asiwaju’s emergence did so because they thought the old man had any iota of sense of justice left in him and would see to a balance in his ticket.

They are not God who would have known that Tinubu would throw caution to the wind and become outrightly stupid by not caring about Christian sentiments and sensibilities.

You guys pretend that Tinubu is being rejected by Nigerians because of religion.

Meanwhile, religion is only one of the other factors for opposing Tinubu.
-Tinubu is too old.
-He parasites on the government money.
- He is a chop and chop politician not a nation builder.

Why should we vote such a person knowing what he has done for Lagos in terms of channelling state funds and positions for personal gains.

But truth is; if they had implemented secret balloting & eliminated bribery/buying of delegates, Tinubu would never have emerged. The primaries eventually became for the highest bidder with deepest pockets to dish out enough dollars.
If not for Tinubu's do-or-die desperation to become President, he would have honorably remained at the background & supported Osinbajo.

I dont like half-truths. A VP has little to no power. But Muslim-Christian balance in this dispensation ensures that there is at least a little check on religious matters. It is not as if Christians are averse to Muslim presidency. The issue is that Religious balance supposed to be in place to allay fears of Islamization which the current parochial leadership of PMB has dangerously stoked. Why did Tinubu go for South-North balance if these indices are immaterial?

The fact is that Tinubu has made a political decision which is his prerogative. As a Muslim, he is minority in the South, and it would have been political suicide to pick a Christian, who is minority in the North as his running mate.

It's either you vote for him, or vote against him based on that, and enough of the drama surrounding his choice of running mate.
