dru23: Bros... Any engine is rebuildable to factory specifications ( in some cases even better than factory sef). Even a cracked block can be repaired, using the right methods. Heck i have seen Kia/Hyundai engines with piston slap re-sleeved (Those Russians ehn ) The defining component here is cost involved. |

Inception: those gamma engines are very expensive. Na known fact. The reason the cars are cheap na because dem get engine problem and the owners can't afford to replace engine. Rather than replace engine for 550k thereabout, they sell it as it is for say 500k |

dru23: Hello boss. Having read most of what you said, I think I may have been servicing my vehicle wrongly. I use the Honda Accord 2009 2.0l engine and after reading all these I checked my owners manual and the recommended oil for our temperature is 15W - 40. How can I correct the wrong practice I have been doing all these while. * won't changing oil affect the engine again? Just your professional advice please and if you are in Abuja, I don't mind coming for servicing in your workshop.

Sunshyne200: Good day sir, Your Honda accord manual is different from the one I was able to download .. This is the original manual for USA spec .. Maybe urs is European spec..... But whatever be the case sir, as long as u follow owner's manual that came with the car . you should be all set.......... And most Honda cars from Civic to accord and some Honda car model recommend 5w20

Sunshyne200: 15W40 available in Nigeria is for CI Engines. Is yours a CI engine? If it's not, you can use 5W30 on it or 10W40 if you can get. Castrol stop start will work perfectly ... Get it at any Eterna PLC retail outlets |

dru23:Am using total 20w50 and that range of Civic is the one I own What do I do now, should I port? Won't that hurt the engine (my kazeem told me that)? |
Re: Avoid 20w50 Oil.. 2003 Honda Civic Update by dru23(m): 8:34pm On Aug 06, 2022 |
skywalker240: Well continue using it .... If you try to port to the original manufacture recommendation u might encounter a leak...... That 20w50 is too thick of an oil .... Because of the thickness the oil pump, that pumps oil into all the moving parts of the engine is working faster than it should be ..... That is why in some cases people will replace the oil pump.. You are over working it .... And it takes a longer time for the oil to get into the moving parts.. Since u are using 20w50 it is not full synthetic .. It means u have to change ur oil often .. Likely around every 3k miles or so .. Failure to do so ur engine will be sludge up (pic ) below........overall Honda built good engine.. Those engine can take abuse and abuse.. But their transmission will not tolerate the use of wrong fluid.. It will end in premium tears.. People hate Honda, because they are highly ignorant of their maintenance. Most Nigerians car owners want a car that they can abuse and neglect responsibility ....... Newer model cars now are using lighter oil like 0W20. Some Honda use 0w20.. So next time when u get a newer model car follow owners manual .... 1 Like 1 Share

ksmart027:My car at this moment needs oil change as i can see on my check engine light on my dashboard I've not open the engine to see if there is sludge, but i am suspecting that because the previous owner said he changes 3 months and he changed it recently but I certainly hope it's not what it is. After i discovered and read this Dru23 thread, This current oil 20w50 am using is now pissing me off |
Re: Avoid 20w50 Oil.. 2003 Honda Civic Update by dru23(m): 12:29pm On Aug 08, 2022 |
skywalker240: My only advice is manage am like that. Civic engine will take abuse. Use the car until it will need engine replacement .. Once you replace the engine with a conform tokunbo grade start using the recommended fluid oil ....... We live and learn ........ 1 Like 1 Share |

Mommyeve: New models cars like urs especially Toyota cars are switching to thinner oil like 0w20 and 5w20 .... 1. Below chart for 2009 Corolla ......your car oil is 0w20 or 5w20 .. But 0w20 is highly recommended .... Please keep in mind that the oil pump is design to pump 0w20 or 5w20 oil ... 20w50 is too heavy for the pump and it will damage the oil pump and wear out your engine gradually ........ Most of these mechanics do not have degrees or certification on cars ..... The manufacture knows better that this kazzem you are using.. The excuse they will tell you is Nigerian weather and use thicker oil etc bla bla bla etc .......... Kindly switch to the recommended oil and hope it is not too late. Take your car to a professional , have them open up the engine cover to check for sludge. 2. Second chart ..... This are newer model cars that use thinner oil . ...very important to follow owners manual
