Not cos we won france, but forget that history aspect. See how Columbia schooled Germany days back? Time and quality has passed under this bridge o. Lol. It felt like u17 to me, i won't like. I'm so used to the Oshoala and Dike set of u20-intensity and all, that it's hard to accept this is currently u20.
I'm saying the same thing with you.

Falconets: The Ball Playing Jugglers

In this game, The Falconets outpassed the French team. We recorded 295 passes as against the French's 259 passes.

Also, our passing accuracy was 57% as against the French's 54%.

Ball possession: Nigeria's 54% vs France's 46%.

Not yet eureka, but another fine generation of ball passers and ballplaying marvels are coming up strong.

When I first saw these your statements, I was initially skeptical but assumed that it was relatively okay, having watched the game and seen the amount of passes we threw away. Now I must say that we had a poor outing compared to the other teams in the competition.

We currently have third worst passing so far behind France/ Costa Rica 54% and Ghana 48%. Most teams averaged mid 60s 70s and even 80s in percentage with over 300 completed passes. That is really poor passing performance from Nigeria.

I don't like to sound negative or pessimistic, but tone down the passing stuff a bit. We're nowhere close yet.

Context matters bro.

It's grossly inadequate for you to compare passing stats with other teams in isolation. For instance, the quality of opposition is not the same. We played a better team in France, than the other teams on question. France is on of the favourite in this competition and we completed more passes that they did.

Also, other teams didn't have to play under extreme weather conditions. The girls played most of the first half on a water logged pitch. I was initially dissatisfied with the long balls, but AkinDS rightly reminded me that the rainy condition informed that strategy. You'll notice they kept the ball on the ground in the second half when it got better.

So for all the challenges they had to deal with it was a pretty good stat. We'll however know more when the play Korea, hopefully under a more conducive environment.

Ok.
But Korea will be tough o. I watched Japan for like 25 minutes yesterday. Those Asians don't have the body size but their athleticism, positioning and passes ehn....

First I don't know where you heard that France is the favorite. This is age grade competition and the status of the country may not matter much. If France is the favorites and we dominated them, then we are favorites even more and should have better numbers. If we played a much formidable team as you argue then we should not even win the possession game.

We had 54% possession and should easily complete well over 300 passes with that amount of possession. Costa Rica with 32% possession completed 232 passes against Australia. Honestly, we really must improve and not let the win deceive us. The stats don't tell a good storu

Koreans mostly used set pieces to hurt the Canadians, if the Falconets defend those better, they won't have problems defeating them, it was an open game with the Canadians

So far I don't see much quality gap with the games so far, any team can beat each other, we might have a chance of reaching the semis at least if these girls stay focused and coaches also get their tactics right

Tosin Demehin: The New Onome Ebi

When the Falconets played against France on Friday morning, the team showed zeal and were compact in defense. One player who shone brilliantly was Tosin Demehin who wore the number 5 jersey.
Demehin is the captain of the side and she showed why she is the captain. The former Sunshine Queens defender was a joy to watch and she was an enforcer

Demehin, who now plays for Rivers Angels made sure that she cut out almost all attacks from the French team. No wonder, fans are beginning to dream of her taking Onome Ebi’s place when the legend retires
Demehin grew through the U17 team and has progressed beautifully to lead a team of serious-minded girls and that was evident against France

She read the opponent’s passes so well and coordinated her defense to stifle the dangerous attacks from the European Champions.
With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup drawing closer, the Super Falcons team is beginning to get shape and the inclusion of Demehin will be a blessing
Demehin would have gone for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations but coach Danjuma wanted his captain strong and fresh, to face the world in Costa Rica

Now, after the tournament, the stage should be set for the new Onome Ebi to emerge

I have high hope on this present falconet. They're really talent and will replace the ageing super falcon players
this is my statement during the awcon. I have followed this team since their u17. Although u17 world Cup was cancelled during their time. This team are more technical than the 2012 team. They're not even at their best yesterday.

The weather played a big role in the poor passing accuracy yesterday... We might have dominated France, but they are still an elite team .. Their passing too was poor... I'm sure if you check the stats for other games, it won't be this low

Fresh from beating Grace Chanda and Ajara Njoya in the Women's African Player Of The Year award, Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the Women's Ballon d'Or award scheduled to be given in October

The best part of this story is that Oshoala still has years in her legs.

The same Canada that was caught ball watching on a number of occasions, Korea is a bigger threat cause they're faster and can match the speed of the falconets.

It’s going to be in record that she played at the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup…

She will definitely stand out among her mates at the U17 tourney… And will do the same at the U20 level.

They also have to qualify for said competitions. It is not a birthright. I am sure countries like England and Sweden would like to be in the upcoming editions also.
