Read this before embarking on a journey to United Kingdom England, before selling your land, car and other valuables and paying tuition fees of almost 18,000 pounds or more which today in Nigeria exchange rate is approximately 14,000,000 million naira. Think very well. we all know Nigeria is bad, insecurity and poor basic amenities and all. We have not even added accommodation and the frustration that comes with except you willing to stay in a University accommodation which is cheaper you be paying nothing less than 10,000 pounds at least 8,000,000 naira, have not added feeding now that's almost 30,000,000 naira all in total to come for a Master program just 1 year. cry cry cry cry that's not chicken change that's huge.

Now once you done you entitled to a 2 years post study visa where the UK government gives you time within the 2 years to get a job or else we be welcoming you back to Nigeria. Now the issue here is not you getting a job, there are lots of job in the UK, most companies are not ready to sponsor you for a tier 2 visa to work, infact even if you make it through the first stage and you been ask if you have the right to work and your reply is you will need a sponsor you might not hear from them again.

Its so unfair to international students that pay huge amount of money for tuition fees to come here and not getting any company to offer you tier 2 sponsorship letter most end up either enrolling back into the system taking a Phd programme paying another huge sum of money just to remain in the Uk, which is very sad, some even leave their degree and end up in care homes taking care of elderly people, mentally unstable people which you might be subjected to either been kicked, insulted and so on.

I think the school agents of this schools should inform students before embarking on a journey, where job is not guarantee and not just concern about hitting sales. Also discrimination, and pretence. i think Canada is better off in my own opinion. just think and way your options before u jakpa and come back to square 1. All this money if you have it please kindly invest back home because i see it has just wasting it over there.

Well written.

I have stopped long time ago convincing anyone. When they get there, they will understand.

The craze now is pretending to be in real marriage by going to court and marry for real, with the intention to divorce after some times; so one person will be the main applicant and another the dependant.

Go to our Wedding Registry, they full there. The staffers at the court registry are aware, collecting money and facilitating this scam,

And Nigeria isn't debt ridden?

Ghana is one of the safest countries in Africa, you can move freely at night, travel to all regions without fear.
Their police isn't brutal like those uniformed animals in Nigeria. Their schools and universities are decent, their cultural and moral values far better.
They do not have fulanis looting their country dry, killing & kidnapping the locals while a fulani Nigerieen president is busy siphoning funds to Niger Republic.

Ghana is better than Nigeria for the most part.

Lol, u no serious at all. Only Fulanis are the ones looting Nigeria dry, killing and kidnapping the locals, and our president is equally a Nigerieen. Your brain needs a factory reset grin grin grin

Please don't see this my responses as rude, I type this with the utmost respect because I understand that Nigerians are easily provoked when you tell them the truth.

If you ask this question on a thread like this, it simply means that you are not a PhD scholarship material.

There are a lot of Nigerians on Youtube and Twitter who are creating steady contents on how to secure PhD funding. the truth is you must be capable of independent research to do a PhD. Asking questions like this doesn't show you've done your research.

Firstly, try to do your research to get a general overview of what is required, and if you have a more direct and personal question, you can now come back and ask, and we will be happy to support you.

once again, I apologise if you think my response is rude and that I should've ignored the post. I wrote this response out of love and respect, hoping that you or any other person reading this will see reason from it.
Apt reply bro.

This is the reality of many young
Nigerians
sweetmelanin:
A child who has never left his father's compound will think his father's own is the biggest. I'm saying this in the context of Africa because Nigerians have this superiority complex towards other African countries not knowing many of them have surpassed Nigeria in many ways e.g. security, education, way of life etc..

Countries like Ghana, Benin Republic, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, Gambia, Cape Verde etc.. the few Nigerians who go to these countries, go there and start displaying foolish arrogance like we are better than them.. like how do you flee your own country that has failed you, yet have the audacity to look down on your fellow Africans who are doing better?

Instead of being humble and relocating to African, Latin American or Carribean countries that are safer & more economically prosperous, Nigerians will instead
seperate from their families, sell their properties, take everything they've laboured for and go and submit it into the hands of the UK government only to get sent back to Nigeria empty handed with a useless degree.

The Nigerians who are enjoying UK today are;
- children (first generation) of those who settled here in the 80s/90s/early 2000s.
- Medical professionals like doctors, nurses.
- Students who come with a 'dependent' spouse who can work while the other studies.

Most single students & every other category of immigrants will unfortunately fall into the carefully crafted scam - the UK immigration policy.

Very apt. Nigerians and this their mentality of my "unborn kids". What of your self and your mental health?? That's why we loot and steal with impunity all because of our so called kids and unborn kids to give them a better life.

My father did the best he could and left the stage for me. I am doing well for myself. I can't sacrifice my mental health and peace of mind because I want to provide the best for my kids. When they grow up, they face the challenges and work their way out.

I wish I can like this post a hundredth times.

But if you have all it takes to relocate legitimately without it impacting your finances, mental health etc, please do ,I believe there are average Nigerians who are presently doing well in the country but wants something saner and can as well sustain it.

I have come to discover that abroad is not for everyone and those in the abroad shouldn’t see the ones at home as lazy so also Nigerians at home shouldn’t see those selling everything to japa as stupid. If you believe you can succeed in Nigeria then do not let anyone force you to japa otherwise you will be frustrated, and if you have an adventure spirit and love to travel abroad then do it without being discouraged.

I made a mistake about 10 years when my cousins were interested in me traveling to the USA but I allowed preaching from Oyedepo to discourage me. I thought then that I can make it in naija and also help to fix the country. 10 years later I keep getting frustrated. Now my cousins in the USA don’t even want me to mention japa to them again cos when they were ready I wasn’t.

Naija, a country where employers make you feel they’re doing you a favor by paying you your salary, a country where employees are made to do jobs meant for 5 people and still earn less, a country where graduates of 5 years ago are still looking for jobs that will make them stand, a country where youths have become slaves to politicians, a country where you are expected to roll on the floor before people will help you, a country where lecturers behave like gods cos they decide who pass or fail, a country where a military recruit with just WAEC will disrespect their father’s age mate simply cos he/she is holding a gun, a country of lies, deceits, envy, jealousy and wickedness, a country where people pay good with evil or refuses to pay back loans given to them with abeg, abegii

Nigerians are the most wicked people I have seen on the face of the earth; you will welcome them with an open mind and be going out of your way to help them meanwhile they’ll be planning how to rob you and betray you.

This same person that wrote this is probably living abroad and enjoying the benefits there but they will intentionally discourage people so that nobody will ask them for money or come over and drag their jobs with them. Make all of una getat abeg

I disagree with the idea that you are nobody without debt.

At least here Nigeria, people have proven that without debt they can become somebody.

In regards to the notion that paying mortage is actually cheaper than rent, that is not always true.

The reality is that renting is cheaper because it doesn't come with the responsibility of owning a house.

With ownership, comes maintaince, mortgage and some taxes which you have to pay, in the long it owning a house atleast in the developed world is more expensive.

I never spoke for what is what inside of Nigeria. I’m sorry that you misunderstood me.

I do agree that masters in itself is an over qualification in alot of places around the world. All that is needed to start a career in developed countries is majorly a BSc degree. Some people have even built fantastic careers with just a trades/journey person certification or 2 years diploma.

Truth be told, the point of most people going abroad for Masters is to japa first. In Nigeria, would an MSc qualification give an advantage over BSc holders when applying for jobs? that is a big maybe. A good number of my colleagues back in school that never left Nigeria for the abroad to study after our BSc have become directors at places like PWC, KPMG, GE and other multinationals. One of my colleagues even went solo and started his own IT company - It is now one of the biggest in Nigeria today. That is the path they have chosen in life. Some of us have chosen the japa path and equally doing okay as well.
Your dishwshing comment is very funny.I remember a Nigerian woman who said she had to wash hundreds of plates in a hotel.Left the job but till today she said some parts of her hand still pains here

There is dignity in labour. It's just the Nigeria habit of looking down on people working some types of jobs which is bad.
I even watched a YouTube documentary not long ago where Sola shobowale said she worked some jobs and wasn't ashamed of it.
I am sure that there are lots of people working care homes and that have financed houses, cars, sponsored family through university e.t.c on such jobs. Even from those care jobs, people can move on to become care home owners themselves or become bosses in the field.
When I did back room job at stadium as a student, alot of us Nigerians saw the job as rubbish due to our entitlement mentality but alot of the eastern European guys there had risen to top positions just by working hard.
Right just like you see a lot of these Pakistanis and Indians working in gas stations in the US.You now see them move on to buy gas stations themselves and become owners .some of them own like 10 gas stations and are multi millionaires in dollar terms.People who could hardly speak English when they moved to the US

My friend in the uk worked in a warehouse for hours as a student and was proud to be able to afford a phone.

As he said, in work, he stands for hours and can only go for break for 5 to 10 minutes, if he clocks in late, his pay are deducted.

In the warehouse, the polish are on top and those guys work like craze.

Anytime, he comes home, he has to put his leg into warm water just to relax it
Tough work there.Care homes are a bit easier. Some people just go there to sleep and still earn thousands of dollars.

See, what is paining you is that you just relocated to the UK recently and you are pained at apparent failure staring at you in the face. You don't need to lash out. I agree, I know someone who is doing an MBA in one of the lower ranked universities and they keep pushing them to go get placement but are not helping them to even connect with potential employers.

They also ignore the fact that UK companies do not really have placement programs for MBAs so the students are chasing an illusion. 1 year placements are for undergraduate degree programs extending it to 4 years instead of 3 years, MBAs usually go for summer internships not 1 year placements, but they use the placement option to dangle the option of an additional year of working in the UK in addition to the 2 year post study worker.

Leave these guys to keep making noise here. They cannot travel from point A to B in Nigeria without thinking of Bokoharam and Bandits. No electric power. No jobs. No nothing. There are jobs in the UK. There are nano degrees you can get online and work for foreign companies from the comfort of your home. But they all want office work. They expect to be gifted a job after Msc. Where in the world does that happen?

In UI (Ibadan) it is the same story. Student graduate and return for Msc. After a year or two of no job they return for PhD . They are in their thousands. But someone wants the UK to gift them jobs.

To the OP, if you cannot get a job, stay back home and do what you can! Not everybody travels for a job. I am a Medic. I make about 2.4m in two and half weeks from my online jobs and trading. I am moving to the UK for an Msc. And yes, I can earn around £130k to 200k per year easy.

Don't generalise. Give your advise and don't be condescending. And don't decide for people what they use their money for
Thanks brother. I appreciate your contribution. Majority of people here just want to go abroad and work and if they don't get the work they feel dissatisfied. One thing that should be in your mind abroad is how to tap from available resources to get you to where you want to be not just working for somebody.
Re: Jakpa Advise: Think Critically by Smile4mee01: 4:26am On Aug 19, 2022
if you are not amongst the elite in Nigeria and you have an oppurtnity to go abroad legally, please do.

Even the elite stack thier kids away abroad for a reason.

May '"Nigeria" not happen to you before you realize how bad things are.

Also, if you remain in Nigeria because not everyone can afford to travel. Make the most of it. dont hold back those who want to go. Wish them well.

At the end, we all just want to be happy with life on our own terms.

The truth is that not everyone in the recent time is excited about japa! Infact those who are recently going are part of those that thought Nigeria would be better.

Some people don’t mind to do the care job over there. But the challenge is that they only have 20 hours a week to work.

But if they have unlimited hours to work, they can do 40 hours of work in a week and earn £600 a week @ £15 an hour. ThAts £2,400 a month.

If £1,400 go to bills £1,000 (800k) can be saved in a month.

How many people earn 800k doing menial jobs in Nigeria?

Some can do this for 10 years and have goo set up back home and be back to settle down.

You should also skill up before going, while processing your visa, pick courses in tech and tune it up, it will help you out there.

I wish you all the best…home or abroad
