My EOD Consume 2 Litres Fuel For 21.3km by Pelicanmedia: 10:00am On Aug 19, 2022
Hello

Please is this fuel usage fair. I decided to check if my fuel usage is ok so I can calculate. Tank was empty and I put 2 litres fuel and drove for 21.3km before it exhausted. Is it ok or seems to me is consuming fuel.

Is was on an open road. Attached is the map

I doubt if that is possible.
That is the distance from otedola bridge to the end of 3rd mainland bridge (adeniji Adele BS).

I then bought black market 2 litres N500 in front of the gate. I drove down to stadium road, fuel finish just in front of Goods will Akpabio international stadium. I check distance on Google and it was 21.3km. just want to know if is consuming or not. Is a 2004 EOD

am complaining that it consumes fuel and someone said I should try what I just did. Because when ever my gauge start showing orange color I presume fuel will finish.

2 litres for 21km is great..but i doubt if its possible

And yes fuel guage changing to orange means you should keep in mind you have started eating into your reserve ..

However, some cars have reserve as much as 10 litres or even more....which can take you several km ...Mayb u thought you were empty when u poured 2 litres extra into your reserve that was still carrying some fuel

Was planning to replace the o2 sensor one at the exhaust and another close to the engine, both as been removed , both cost N22k. Should I go ahead and replace or should just drive as it is now. Just want professionals to advice me about fuel consumption

Let’s start from the beginning, you said your tank was empty , how did you conclude it was empty?

When a vehicle has an empty tank of fuel it won’t start and run Or if it runs empty while driving its engine will shut off due to the fuel pump not reaching any fuel in the bottom to supply to the injectors and you’d have to clear off the road or push the vehicle to a safe corner before you go and start looking for fuel to buy.

So from your initial post you claim your tank was empty and I ask HOW EXACTLY DID YOU DETERMINE IT WAS EMPTY? was it because your orange reserve fuel light came on in your dashboard OR your vehicle stopped abruptly in the middle of the road while you were driving?

yes, I was driving when it empty, steering became stiff so I had to clear off the road fast because no one will help push. Like I said. I know when fuel finish for motor. Why all the questions.

2004 accord is rated at 9.3l per 100km, which is approximately what you did.

Google the rated consumption of the car brand new from factory without any problem. Which is 9.3l/100km
Yours did 2l/2+.3km=9.38l/100km
So the vehicle is OK!
If you want more fuel economy go and buy Civic or Corilla.

No it’s not a matter of reserve. That’s why I initially inquired as to the method he used in determining his tank was empty before adding the 2 liters he bought from the black market.

The usual fuel consumption of this vehicle is 9kms per Liter average so since he topped up 2 liters and drove strictly on the highway without any hold up or traffic he would have a better mileage hence the 3 extra kms that EazyMoh posted about , his vehicle has normal highway mileage.

The issue is his vehicle has no functional O2 sensors, this will make his city (stop and go) mileage very bad unless he does something about it. On a highway with steady moderately open throttle position (via the sensor) seen by his brainbox the cars computer will use preset values to administer fuel and air but when he’s in a city traffic with fluctuations in his throttle position sensor input his brainbox will not be able to compute the right mixture of fuel thereby making his vehicle run super rich.

Please what's the normal consumption Rate for Honda Odyssey 2001 model?....
And what's the easiest way to calculate it on my vehicle?

An easy way to check your mpg is by first taking a jerrycan (like your old engine oil can) and going to a petrol station to buy 4 liters of fuel.

Put the jerrycan in your boot.

Then take your vehicle for a drive and keep going until the orange reserve light on your fuel guage lights up.

Once the reserve light has lit up immediately find a place to park your vehicle and take the fuel you bought earlier and pour it into your tank

Go back into your vehicle and before driving off first take a picture of your odometer with your phone (or simply reset your trip counter A or B)

Once you’ve noted the figures on your odometer then you can go ahead and start driving your vehicle. Drive it until the orange fuel gauge reserve light comes on again

Immediately the reserve light comes on find a place to park and take another picture of your odometer (or the trip computer if you reseted it before) and note the mileage/distance you have driven with the 4 liters you poured into the tank earlier.

Once you have noted down both the before and after mileage figures of your vehicle using the 4 liters of petrol you can then go ahead to calculate your fuel consumption by ;

subtracting the BEFORE mileage from the AFTER mileage and dividing your answer by 4 which will be equal to your vehicles fuel consumption by kilometers/miles per liter

If the calculation is confusing to you then just do the experiment and take the pictures with your phone and post it here so we can help you calculate it.

Remember that the pictures to take are your odometer readings immediately your reserve light comes on before you poured in the fuel from your jerrycan and the odometer reading after the fuel light comes on again immediately you exhausted the fuel you poured into the tank.

the normal consumption rate for your 2001 Honda Odyssey is 7kms/L from the factory

Yes. Perfectly ok.
U might not always be lucky calculating your fuel this way because of the differences in the road you ply. For instance, traffic and bad road will make you use more fuel compared to a smooth road with less/no traffic.

Making your fuel finishes and buying black market will not help your fuel pump and fuel lines, including your injectors at the long run.

There are better ways to carry out the experiment like the way described up there.
