This can never happen in Nigeria. If you have an HND, you have to do a conversion BSc program before you can do MSc. If you decide to do master's directly, you end up with PGD or Professional Masters which is not applicable in all schools.

Even in the public and private service, HND and BSc are not on the same level with different salaries.
They must have seen something in her to offer her a direct Ph.D.

Cos Americans dont segregate educationally. They’ll just use WES or ECE to evaluate your credentials and place your certificate where it belongs. Organic Chemistry in Naija will get the same US school grade value. If you say that u sabi Organic Chemistry 2, they’ll test you.. if you pass, you’ll get assigned the grade point value. HND or BSC no matter for US

Here in Nigeria we HND holder have been widely ignored,so many job opportunities in the past that I could have been perfect fit for but I was ghosted,making me felt like I wasn't good enough.

It is not all schools. Early this year, one school in the US waved GRE but made IELTS/TOEFL mandatory. This is a STEM core leading course.

what brought about gender in this?, congratulations to her. I have a lot of male friends that got the same scholarship to undergo there PhD with Hnd. Naira land is somewhat getting behind I got to know about this 2 weeks ago on LinkedIn.

I know for a fact that you can enter a university without the basic entrance requirements because I know many people who left Nigeria in the 90s and entered via the mature student path.

I know someone a former director of a bank in Nigeria who has no 1st degree but when his father bought a bank, he had to do a masters degree to fulfill CBN requirements and was admitted to a prestigious university basedon his work experience.

I got my facts wrong about Wole Soyinka, I confused him with another famous Nigerian professor whose name i cant remember at the moment. However untill I remmember the name and post it, to let you know that it is not unusual to became a full professor (not visiting professor nonsense) without a Ph.d you only have to look at your VP Osinbajo who was a full professor at unilag without a Ph.d. There is also a famous edo artist who is a full professor and never even have a bachelors degree, cant remember his name. there are many priofessors without a ph.D, those are just a few examples. In fact in many of the world acclaimed universities including havard, oxford, Cambridge etc many of the professors dont have a Ph.d

A Ph.d may fast track your path to a professorship but if you are very prolific in research and publishing, exceptional scholars without a ph.D can achieve professorship faster than people with Ph.ds. In fact there are lecturers with Ph.ds that never become professors because all they do is teach, they dont do research or publish articles in respected journals.

My neighbor's daughter from kebbi scored highest in common entrance and her name was immediately removed from automatic state scholarship upon discovery the pupil was christian. The same thing happens in all the northern muslim states. So that is how islam operates.
