She said that the coach has his favourites and he didn't want to play established midfielders (Okobi, Ayinde, etc), but preferred to play make shift midfielders, so that his favourites could play. She also told the media that they should not over publicise people who score goals because football is a team effort.

I joined late so can't provide a context for how the conversation started. I'll however make inferences for what I saw.

Okobi basically shared he experience with Randy Waldrum and the impact of that experience on her and her family.

First, she alleges that Randy had a negative bias towards her. He allegedly said sited not seeing her play before as an excuse for her not being in the team.

She talked about injury spell (not sure if it was hers or Halimatu Ayinde) and how they were hopeful of being in Morocco. After she didn't get the call and Ayinde did, she gave up hope though Ayinde was still hopeful of her being included.

She received a call much later from Randy after it was confirmed Oparanozie couldn't make the team and took a flight to Abuja to join them.

She claims Randy already had a core team he intended to work with and this had nothing to do with your showing in training. (This was exclusive of herself, Ayinde and Ucheibe but claims Ayinde was included last minute). She expressed her displeasure to the Falcons losing the South African game and blames the loss to technical deficiency.

She alleges that Randy probably reads comments on social media and that was pretty probably why he reluctantly used her in the second game. She claims Randy apologized to her after that game (and did so 3 other times in Morocco) after he witnessed what she brought to the team.

Addendum:

She said something about almost having issues with Asisat (didn't exactly get what the issue was)

Also talked about the conversation she had with Randy about captaincy when it became obvious Onome couldn't continue. Apparently her teammates suggested that she take up the responsibility.

Also talked about the role of the media and the effect that had on players. She alleges the Nigerian Media hypes just one (a few) players to the detriment of the team. She says they all read this and this ultimately doesn't help team spirit.

Moving forward, she didn't mince words in suggesting the successes recorded by the team so far is primarily as a result of individual brilliance and had nothing to do with what the coach's contribute technically invariably suggesting the necessity for a new coach

Ahead of the Friendly game against USA...

Osinachi Ohale, Christy Ucheibe, Halimatu Ayinde, Tony Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade are some of the Players names in the list.... Ngozi Okobi, Patricia George surprise exclusion...
No surprise here. Just hoping we have a full squad in the US so we don't play with a depleted squad as we did Canada. That is no way to build a team.

Spain Captains Advice President To Sack Coach

If the news coming out from Spain is something to go by, the job of Spanish women’s national team coach, Jorge Vilda is under the line.

According to El Confidencial, the captains of the Spanish national team (Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes, and Patri Guijarro) have spoken to Luis Rubiales, the President of the Spanish FA, about firing Jorge Vilda.

His contract was just extended to 2024 in June.

In UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, Jorge Vilda’s Spain was rated as the top contender for the European title, and once again proved to be a dominant team, but its lacklustre performance once again deprived Spain of its first major trophy, after suffering a blowing defeat to the English hosts in the quarter-finals.

Jorge Vilda recently guided Spain to the quarter-final of UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 where the team lost to Champion, England 2-1 after extra time.

Appointed Spain’s senior head coach in 2015, succeeding Ignacio Quereda, Vilda oversaw a successful qualifying campaign for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017.

At the competition in the Netherlands, they reached the quarter-finals, where they lost on penalties to Austria after a 0-0 draw.

In 2018 Spain won the Cyprus Cup and also secured their place at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup – only their second appearance at the global event.

Additionally, Vilda oversaw Spain’s victory at the UEFA WU19 EURO, which contributed to being shortlisted for the award of The Best FIFA Woman’s Coach 2018.

He also led Spain out of the group stage of France 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup where it lost on penalties to Champions, United States Women’s National Team (USWNT).

Meanwhile…
Spain has qualified for Australia/New Zealand 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with two games to spare.
The team currently tops Group B with a maximum of 18 points from six games.

The La Roja will face Hungary on September 2 before another home clash with Ukraine on September 6 in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Now I understand, thanks a lot!!! If Randy remains coach he probably wont cal her again. But I do agree with some of the things she said.1) Women are typically more jealous and emotional than guys so press focus on some girls will affect others. 2) randy clearly has favorites, case in point was continued benching of Ucheibe until his hands were forced to start her.

Savannah DeMelo has been added to the USWNT roster in place of Trinity Rodman for friendlies against Nigeria on Sept. 3 and 6, earning her first call-up.

There's hardly any coach that does not have favorite players.
In the case of Ucheibe, Waldrum had never had the opportunity to coach her in the SF in a match - she had been invited multiple times, but between visa issues, injuries, etc, they never had a chance to work together prior to the WAFCON.
So, it would have been very odd for him to start her, when all his previous regulars were there.
And when Ucheibe was called upon, she stepped up big time and has now become a mainstay.
That's how it works.

Regarding Okobi, for me, good riddance. When she had a chance to really make a difference, she flunked. Now she's bitching about respect, or lack thereof? What the heck is there to respect? If not for the injury to Oshoala (which forced Ajibade to play as a winger), she likely would have bench-warmed all though the tournament (which I would have been very okay with).

Anyhow, enough said.

Interesting list, especially with the inclusion of players of Nigerian decent based abroad. Daniella Alali looks like someone with potential with the few clips of her I saw online.

We can't pack college babes of Nigerian descent to go play almighty USA even if it's possible right now. It's either we go with our squad mostly or the game should just be called off.

**Edidiong Etimi (Bayelsa Queens, NIGERIA)

This two forward should be our major players to watch out for, the talent is clearly there and it shows that the U17 Coach did his Scouting job excellently but again he’s technical and tactical abilities is what we need to look out for too..

Plays wetin?

So you think Tony can do the job Ayinde is doing in the DM/ CM position?? Some People sha.!

That’s a fat lie, Tony or any other Midfielders apart from Ucheibe and Ajibade. The rest can’t really give what Ayinde gives in that position.

Is either Tony remains one of Randy,s Option at FB, or she plays from the AM or her regular Right Wing

Anyway I’m done with this so called argument u’re bringing.
There are two things Ayinde will give to her team; pass the ball to the opponents and secure a red card.
