It is not requisite to adapt a show faithfully to its source materials. Historically, the best adaptations are those that take liberties and deviate slightly from the source. To some extent, Game of Thrones did it.

My point is that TRoP making changes isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is within your rights to object to the changes, but these changes may be important to the plot and may be crucial going forward.

Let us not make snap judgments. It takes time for the best wine to mature. I have no doubt that, given enough time, these changes will begin to grow on everyone, and people will completely forget their initial reservations.

correct.

as an aside, I never thought it possible, but Hannibal the movie was far superior to Hannibal the book.

y'all seem to be forgetting when they made a white man king of the africa jungle in Tarzan! fvck white people folklore, Hollywood has always been whitewashed! back then they would rather paint a white man to look Asian or black rather than use the actual people, at least let karma lead for once... also na fiction, and tbh the black characters in HOtD are playing out their role well, Blacks have always been in GOT, just that they depict as slaves or eunuch (the unsullied soldiers), it's nice to see us in high standing this time as targaryan or Velaryon! as for TRoP, it's debatable, Tolkien never use black characters in his books I think, and I know many want faithfulness to source material but it's 2022, would be weird to watch a high fantasy show now with all white characters, either way it is what it is

You need to cure your low self-esteem.

Your race doesn't need to be in white folklore to feel good.

You don't see European characters in Chinese folklore movies.

Stop making a fool of yourself.

The Great wall with European characters.

Lol.

Are you dumb?

The Great Wall movie setting was after the construction of Great Wall.

Hence, the Great Wall of China period is not a folklore period. Because it has a historical date and event clearly documented, which is around1368-1644. During this period, Europeans have been trading with the Asians.
Even Marco Polo one of the foremost European adventurer to Asia traveled there around 1271– 1295.

Folklore period are usually termed "Pre-historical" period.

But are blacks been mixing with Europeans during the period/settings used for HoTD or TRoP?

You need to be sincere with yourself and learn.

Forbidden Kingdom is not folklore but fantasy.

The plot centered around a South Boston teenager Jason Tripitikas, who is a fan of martial arts films.

It was through his dreams of a battle between Sun Wukong and celestial soldiers in the clouds, that he later visits a pawn shop in Chinatown to buy wuxia DVDs and discovers a golden staff...

Chinatown, Boston, and DVDs can't be regarded as part of folklore.

Tbh, there's a thin line between folklore and fantasy, many folklore movie na fantasy movie! dragon is a folklore character from europe/wales, put it in a movie, it will be termed within the fantasy genre, the Norse gods, the Greek gods are under fantasy! clash of the Titans is a fantasy movie, there's nothing like folklore movie.... dream or not, it is a movie about China folklore and can be used as an example in this argument

Oduduwa, Obatala, etc, is part of Yoruba folklore. If you put a white character to be slave in a folklore movie consisting of Oduduwa, and Obatala, will that not look somehow?

Dragons are part of European folklore. Seeing black aristocrats characters in such settings is somehow.

And black people should stop justifying it solely based on racial issues.

if it's fiction then no it wouldn't be somehow, because that movie would be a fictional movie not a historical movie! again this is fiction, and you can manipulate fiction however you like, as an author, writer, producer whatever! seeing black people as slaves in GOT is nice but if you saw a fictional nollywood fantasy movie with white slaves that will be somehow to you abi?! cos blacks are only meant to be depicted as slaves in fantasy movie, we were born to be slaves ... una no well I swear

House of dragon episode 3 is 10/10 for me.

As usual, the series just keep getting better and better and better.
This episode has so many wow scenes you will have no choice than to replay those scenes again.
When you find yourself rewinding just to watch a particular scene over and over again then you should know that you are watching a GOATED series.
Let me not drop spoilers but one of my favorites scenes wasn't even that of Daemon, it's that of the princess when she came back to the camp, as she was walking, the looks given by the armies and her father and the nobles were so amazing to watch, i had to replay over and over again.

This princess isn't here to play, she is even going To be a badass more than her uncle grin
I can see craze in her eyes grin

But that last battle was Goated mehhn!!!!!
Daemon is the Goat.

Swears me too with blood on her neck

She just walked confidently

Daemon scene is mad af

Lol. Fiction is different from folklore.

Imagine White slaves to a black man appearing in the same movie, within the same place we have Oduduwa.

But it's okay. We can agree to disagree.

how is folklore not a type of fiction? I don't care if you religious but oduduwa is a fictional person, Thor na fiction, Loki na fiction, Zeus na fiction, dragon na fiction, Ogun na fiction! all na fiction... yes, am imagining it and I would be so happy to see it, and if white people complain, I will say it's a fictional fantasy story. History_Real : The Great Wall of China was built as a military defensive line to defend the invasions from some northern nomadic nations.

Folklore_Movie: The Great Wall of China was built as a military defensive line to defend the invasion of an ancient reptilian alien race.

Can you spot the difference?

Another example

History: The purpose of the crusaders is to recapture territories that had formerly been Christian.

Folklore: The purpose of the crusaders is to hunt down the blood-thirsty vampires, as seen in the movie, Priest.

This is the problem with unintelligent people, they sincerely think they're intelligent.

Even before America had their first historically black president, there have been alot of movies, series and fiction with black president.

as an aside, I never thought it possible, but Hannibal the movie was far superior to Hannibal the book.

Anthony Hopkins delivered an acting masterclass unlike any I've seen before. It was a tour de force.

I read somewhere that his Hannibal role was only 17 minutes long, as opposed to a 2 hour runtime, making it the shortest Oscar-winning role in Academy Award history.

er..

yes and no

there are four hannibal books
red dragon
silence of the lambs
Hannibal
Hannibal rising

silence of the lambs [ and sleepers] are the only books i have seen where the movie matched the source material 95%. and i had to watch the movie 4 times before i got the entire plot and [ the line 'hes making a suit out of real women' finally clicked embarassed]

but hannibal the book was a hot mess. a real hot mess. the movie was lousy, and yet still far superior to the book. Thomas harris must have been looking for easy money.

I haven't read the books, but I can attest to the triumph of Silence of the Lambs (1991), even if other Hannibal films weren't as good.

Hannibal TV series, starring Mads Mikkelson, also deserves a mention. Season 4 would have been based on Silence of the Lambs, if memory serves, but the rights were sold to Amazon or something.

HOTD is a motherfcking good show, ain't no one telling me nothing. cheesy

Even with the time jumps, twice now (first in E02 and again in E03), I still find myself flowing seamlessly with the pacing.

This was so beautiful to watch. I honestly can't find anything to critic...

On The Rings of Power, who else thinks they're doing too much with casting people of colour on the show? lipsrsealed

Before anyone comes for me and accuses me of being a self-hating black man, try to pause for a minute and understand.

I totally get how casting black actors can be a noble idea considering how racially sensitive the world has become, but when it becomes too much, too unnecessary in some circumstances, and above all TOO obvious, then it starts to look forced & deliberate.

I will try not to make comparisons, but HOTD has done a better job at colour-casting than TROP has done, and it's for this one very obvious reason — HOTD did it without making it look forced.

TROP has us looking at black Elves (really? I thought Elves are known to have pale-skin with distinct colour of eyes), then there are black Dwarves (perhaps this could be overlooked), black Harfoots (not quite sure the purpose of having actors of colour included here).

Even with those characters they called Travellers/Hunters who had less than 2mins of screen time, they still managed to make one of them black. undecided

Indeed it feels too deliberate, too forced... and honestly, once I start seeing that, then the novelty of it wears off and it starts to look patronizing.

Other than that, a good show overall... I am enjoying/will enjoy both HOTD and TROP to the fullest.
I did give you points on elves but then again, velyaron were described as pale now they are black. I wonder what skin tone aegon the conqueror will have now.
Harfoots, if memory serves are described as having a darker skin and dwarves can be black

First and foremost, Tolkein didn't invent the concept, he merely borrowed from it. As such, elves can be whatever color writers want them to be.

Dark elves in Norse mythology have black skin. In some translation, they are called black elves.

I don't mind seeing white people shit on TRoP on twitter because of the diverse cast but it's embarrassing and damning to come online and see some black people shit on the show for the same reason.

People like you have come to believe wholeheartedly whatever western media feeds you to the extent that you believe that black characters don't belong in medieval fantasies. It's sad to see.

i might be wrong here but, dark and black are two different things. Those who watches black clover will understand. Dark elves to my knowledge are elves that has been corrupted.
