A week ago I flew on a friend's gyro-copter for the first time. Hair-raising as the wind was quite a factor - at some point the difference between our airspeed and groundspeed was 36mph!
Even managed to take a pic over Koeberg Nuclear Power Station before we were warned off!

For the longest time I've been a reader of history-in wide sweeps not big bites. As such I've not paid attention to the monumental arse the J/Ukes are suffering. This is not charity; place your orders. Egypt and the Horn have received grain. Now tell me which other African countries depend heavily on Ukrainian grain?

I'm rather more interested in the insult of the president of a 3rd world country in eastern Europe thinking he "guarantees" food security for an entire continent.

Who built Egypt's military in the first place? The US subsidizes Egypt's military by 1.3 billion USD every year for about 40 years now.

Egypt won't even be thinking of buying Su-35s in the first place if they weren't receiving that much aid. Their air force would have just looked like a regular African air force.

The US are not backing anybody.

Let me give you a quick rule of thumb. The US currently has no plan to back any of these political struggles in Africa because it is just like tipping a domino. The US currently is only interested in negotiating cease fires in all conflicts concerning Africa. So long as it isn't terrorism, count the US of A off. In fact the legitimate government will still be recognized no matter what.

Africa's conflicts are viewed as largely socially driven and intractable, coupled with illiteracy, tribalism and extremism. Nobody wants to meddle with that. If it is a nationwide struggle against an autocratic government, that's a different case. But you see all these ethno-religious conflicts that tend to stratify countries. clashes fought on ethnic and economic grounds complicated by misinformation; nobody is interested in backing anyone.
