A good deal of NL members are men, that's very obvious. However, there are more ladies than you think. They just don't comment on threads due to the intense misogyny going on here. The guys are always on every thread abusing and sexualizing women. To some of these guys, it's fun; to others, it's way to make themselves feel better about thier own underachieving life; while the rest just want to belong. You see threads where men commit all sorts of crimes, and we all gather to criticize the men in question (though we sometimes foolishly make it about thier tribes or religion). However, when a lady is the culprit, it becomes a gender thing for the guys. You'd read "fear women", "Nigerian women are wicked", "Nigerian girls are useless", "olosho", etc. Even on threads where women are doing great, you'd still read "this one punna go sweet o", "her husband dey enjoy o", and other expressions that objectify them and undermine thier achievements. These comments are made by people who complain thier tribes are being marginalized or that the white man is a racist. Yet they boldly make these misogynistic statements without identifying them as discriminatory.

It has become so normal that while mods are fighting tribalism, nobody really cares about the sexism. Words have power. It's easy to speak someone into depression/anxiety or low self esteem. It's easy to spoil someone's day with words. These words can make someone give up because regardless of what they do, the outcome is the same. I mean, if I were a lady, I'd stay away from such a demoralizing platform. So some of these ladies decided to leave the platform for the guys. Some are still here but hardly comment. Others have removed the gender identifier or even identify as male. I mean, look at it, the other day, someone created a thread asking why we have many women on the BBN thread. He called them jobless. The person forgot that the rest of NL including the dirty sexuality section are filled with men. It's becoming increasingly difficult for the ladies here. It's as if we're going back to those days where women had to use thier husbands' names or even fake male names to advance thier achievements like Margaret Keane, Trotula of Salerno, Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Lise Meitner and numerous others.

What’s the degree of misogyny/sexism on celebrity threads? What is the extent of participation of females on such threads?
What’s the degree of misogyny/sexism on family threads? What is the extent of participation of females on such threads?

By the time you are done getting answers to the above questions, it will become crystal clear that females on Nairaland are overwhelmingly present on threads that have to do with sex and relationships (Romance, Family, Celebrities, etc). Those are the same threads where the misogyny and sexism are also present, so it’s a no-brainer. Perhaps the only section where females dominate on Nairaland with little/no misogyny/sexism is the Food section. Conversely, there are numerous sections where males dominate on Nairaland with little/no misogyny/sexism, but females are rarely ever interested in such threads.

Three main sections used to be /still are the most popular and active users on Nl. Family, Romance, Celebrity. Isn't it amazing that according to you, these sections are where misogyny exist?
Do you know why these sections are popular? Because they are the common grounds. The meeting point for both female and male users. These sections are where all users can relate at a certain level.
Football is not a Lady thing. Fashion is what ladies will spend hours discussing while Guys are bored out. But both gender will discuss Romance, Food, Family and Politics etc.

Misogyny steamed from Romance section and like Cancer spread into every other sections on Nl. When these certain entities who derives pleasure in shaming women chase out females from the section. They spread out to continue their foolery, they tried the food section too. You will wonder why threads like this are mostly on this section.

Ladies do comment on Nl, but there is a reduction and almost a total black out on this section.

These forums have subsections, have you gone through all? Nairaland Isn't even a writing Forum. Well it used to be but not anymore. Even the males that comment are far from being called writers. A person with an IQ less than two digits can use Nairaland and he will be celebrated as a genius all he needs is hate against women ask Zon.efree how he rose to NL stardom if you doubt me. Far back in days where intelligent folks existed on NL people like my example don't comment. They read and learn while the elders deliberate. Both Guys and Ladies debate on topics, argue where need be, brawls and still learn from each other. I have witnessed debates gone for two days between monickers with opposing point of view. Each party argued with facts and references until they reach a conclusion. I've seen brawl that makes you get a pen and paper, I've seen conversations that opens your eyes, challenges that inspires you to widen your horizon. Back then you don't just wake up and post lies,someone would call you out with fact. Not only were users of that era Intellectually intelligent , they were emotionally intelligent too.

Misogyny as well as misandry exists on those sections. Misogyny gets called out by males and females alike, misandry gets called out by males but rarely ever gets called out by females.

Females are rarely ever present on politics thread.

Misogyny did not/has not spread into every other section on Nairaland.
