What are you talking about? Zik contested and won the majority and would have become the Western premier before the infamous cross carpeting. A Fulani was the first mayor of Enugu, so that unification has always been there. What we are talking about was the abolishing of semi autonomy the regions enjoyed before Gowon created 12 states.

Gowon was never in the position when the Kaduna Ezeigwo, Ifeajuna, banjo Ademoyoga, etc. killed the Tafawa Balewa, etc.

It was the failure of Hausa/ Fulani soldiers that to obey brigadier Ademulegun and subsequent afront from Ojukwu who said he can't take directive Gowon.

Meeting were called in Aburu Ghana to resolve d the issue of those that were killed and many that left the northern part to the eastern side.

The failure of Gowon government to complied with the agreement reached in Aburu that led to Ojukwu declared Biafra state.

That is not True
Before Gen Ironsi’s unification decree in 1966 ,Awolowo’s western region had it’s own busy UK embassy on Great portland street in London

It had to be closed down immediately after Gen Ironsi's unification decree and the Federal Government later took over the building

Look Ironsi never removed federalism let us get it in perspective Ironsi's unitary decree only centralized the civil service. It was actually Gowon that removed federalism as the dismantled the regions and created 12 states. He centralized the resource revenue distribution because the Eastern Region that had Oil was a breakaway region and he wanted to block the oil revenues from reaching the Biafran government, but after the civil war ended they never reverted back to the former revenue sharing formula and unfortunately that was what has been the sharing method till now. Let us say the truth and allow the man rest in peace

I TELL YOU WHAT I LEARNT ABOUT IRONSI.


HE WAS A PROUD NIGERIAN AND DID PLACE MANY OF THE COUP PLOTTERS UNDER ARREST.



HE THEN TRAVELLED NATIONWIDE BEFORE HE WAS KILLED IN OYO.



HIS MAJOR MISTAKE WAS TRUSTING BRITISH TRAINED GOWON AND SURROUNDING HIMSELF WITH NORTHERNERS.


HE WAS NAIVE AND LAX WITH HIS SECURITY.


GETTING HIM WAS TOO EASY, HE LEFT ALL THE DOORS OPEN.

The takeover of the Government by Gen Ironsi was completely unconstitutional and later resulted in Civil War

Apart from that there is lots of evidence that Gen Ironsi was part of the Coup


The Police intelligence unit had already informed Gen Ironsi of the planned bloody Coup and

Correctly named the Coup Plotters well before It took place ( like 2 Weeks before the Coup ) but

Gen Ironsi apparently deliberately failed to take any action


The Police had told Gen Ironsi that Ifeajuna, Nzeogwu ,Tim Onwategbu and others were plotting a bloody Coup and the Police asked Gen Ironsi to arrest them

It was Ironsi that failed to do anything about the intelligence Report the Police gave him

That was why the Coup went ahead

Even the British intelligence knew about the Coup before it happened that was why the British High Commission had asked prime Minister Balewa to spend the night of 15 January 1966 at the British Embassy for his own safety they had even Prepared a room for him to sleep in

Point is Ironsi masterminded it with Azikiwe.

The leaders of the coup plotters were also Igbos too.

Ademoyega even said he didn't know a lot about the coup because the main leaders always had their meeting without him at times. Ademoyega was one of the naive stupid Yoruba brainwashed.

It was Igbo coup. The main leaders were Igbos! Every regional leaders were killed except the Igbo leaders.

Bros invariably you confirmed that regional government was still in place in Ironsi's regime what he did was to force unity similar to a military command style. Posting governors outside their state of origin was to ensure assimilation and to ensure unity.

Those who came after Gowon kept subdivided those 12 states until we got 36 states we have today

He did by virtue of a law drafted for unification by Prof. Nwabueze. Gowon's division was made possible because of that.
