Most people against those traveling to Europe are from regions in Nigeria that don't travel that much or those who just hate the survival traits of majority of the southerners that want a modern life. Same people castigating the japa guys will prefer to vote in misfits who will damage the society. Then when people try to japa to escape hardship, same people who keep voting those misfits will start mocking the japa guys. If the country was good and had a level playing ground for all, who will like japa? Envy and jealousy is a normal thing in this our society.

Talk about health facilities, Wen u re making it in dollars over here, or probably if u re making it big in naira u can go to a first-class hospital to have Ur health check-up with little compared to what u will be paying there consistently even when u re not needing the services for two years.

Electricity....well, u have said it all, get Ur standby mikano or Ur solar.

That is it. Just budget for utilities annually and allocate the cash to those accounts and you do not have to worry about them. People seem to prefer feeling sad about spending on fuel while wasting much on girls and frivolities.

the girl that is currently depressed after closing her 2m income business is on a student visa like you now workings lowlife care work !the guy searching for home in Manchester for 2 months are also in the uk ,the one that flew to Najia to do a tooth surgery is also in the uk .Most Nigerian don't paint the true picture of the issue and bad side not to look stupid in the eye of those in Najia . Imagine telling you co worker that you now remove diapers after leaving a bank manager job in nija .no body does .....

I honestly don’t know why you are asking me these questions because I don’t know any of those people. You are the one that know them and you are the one that hear their stories so I can’t tell you anything about what they might be going through as I didn’t hear their stories from them. I shared my stories for those that might find it useful. We can not all stay in Nigeria some of us will relocate abroad some will prefer Nigeria so will even leave the their country and move to Nigeria. Meanwhile not everybody that move to UK will be successful and also not everybody that stay in Nigeria will be successful that’s life. There’s no need for insults

One of my friends who was managing a multimillion revenue business in Nigeria is now a taxi driver in America, he was busy delivering food to homes during the COVID lock down.

I did, and he was too fixated in getting US Passport, I have disconnected from him, cos he was supposed to focus on business in order to afford the EB5 visa category. He is not ready to face the reality of our survival in Africa. Wants where the roads are already paved. Now he is surviving instead of thriving.

There is really no place like home but they have made Nigeria grossly insecure and unlivable. In naija, a single girl earning 600k can easily save 500k without hassle, in Canada, 600k is about 1200CAD which is like 1/3 of your monthly earning. Yet, you can not save beyond 200 CAD per month because of bills! There is really no place like home....may God rid Nigerian of evil politicians and people ruining the country. Let there be a new Nigeria!
so how are nigerians saving between 20k to 80k dols for down payment Once you get a good job and live within your means. You will be able to save. Many of my friends are doing 1k to 2k savings . i have a married friend who are doing over4k a month savings o. If you are doing hustling jobs and overtime you will save more than that. But the average oyinbo saves nothing, they spend all their salary

Living in the UK has it pros and cons but in my own case the pros when compare to the cons is 80:20. I will share my story not because I want to encourage people to leave Nigeria but just to let people know the true state of things. Sometime I read some ridiculous things on Nairaland and I usually ask myself if I’m living in the same UK with these people. People have different reasons for migrating and we are all not in the same situation in Nigeria before. I was a business person in Nigeria but government policies coupled with the toxic business environment began to affect my business. I left Naija with my wife not just because my crumbling business but also because I was getting sick on a regular basis because my immune system can no longer fight Malaria effectively and the fact that there’s a 50% chance that a kid raised in Nigeria will end up doing Yahoo Yahoo not because you are a bad parent but due to the high level of unemployment and the environment which has been polluted with fraud and corruption and I want my kids to live a good life.

I moved to UK in January 2020 on a student visa, my wife as student, myself the dependant. She was going to school while I was working full time in as a support worker, she also worker as support worker when she’s not going to school like she does 20 hrs a week while I do mostly 50hrs a week. We earn combine total of £2500 monthly after tax. Then we were living in a one bedroom apartment (room and parlour flat) with total bill of £950 Monthly (rent = 650, council tax = £82, water = £24, internet = £24, Electricity averaging £80, phone bill £20 and monthly bus pass for 2 of us £70 (35£ each)). We always have more than £1500 for ourself after bills.

After her graduation we decided to move to North West of the UK where house rent are a lot cheaper because we now have a baby and we thought we would need a bigger home. So we got 3 bedroom detached house (duplex) for £650 per month our council tax increases to approximately £110 monthly because my wife is no longer a student, energy bill also increases several time in the last year but we currently paying £154 monthly. Water, phone bill , Internet and Bus pass remain the same as before which brings our current total bill to about £1100 monthly and both earn combine total of £3200 after tax for working combine total of 77.5hrs weekly.

As for the GP and NHS that somebody mentioned above, I have never had any issue getting medical help with my GP whenever I booked appointment with my GP I get attended to by a doctor same day. As for the queue with NHS (the big Hospital), if you have a life threatening issue, you will be attended to immediately. They only put you on queue if your case is not emergency and that’s because the NHS is currently struggling to recruit doctors and nurses so it’s not as bad as people make it look.

For me, moving to the UK is the best decision I have ever made because I believe I raise my kids in a good environment where they have a chance to follow their dreams, secondly my immune system has improved a lot because I’m finally free of mosquitos lol and lastly I have peace of mind which is very important in our life.

So if your wish to leave Nigeria for any country, just to Google and search answers for all your questions and see if it will be a good choice or not because trust me Nigerians will never tell you the truth that what I have learned. Good luck
God bless you for sharing a first hand story

Exactly my point... so the op shouldn't generalize the situation both for those home or abroad. People make choices that ultimately becomes their reality.

Hmmm....you said good jobs and married folks. Canada is a family country. People are better off as duos and with children. So many govt supports and subsidies there. But for a single person earning3k...your rent is like 1200, electricity, water, gas, parking, insurance, food, internet, etc will take another 1000. Before you make your hair and govt takes their throat cutting tax....you have very little left. However, as a couple, you share rent, possibly have one car, etc to share. Abeg, Nigeria is so much better in terms of saving....my one month Salary pays my yearly rent and I still collect change....can't happen in Canny biko.

Bros it's not about narrow minded, it's the reality. Have you not observed that those who always praise the military are northerners and not southerners. Why is it so? Why do they depend so much on government resources? And always like holding onto power just to grab every juice aspect of the country. Is it right? Though, I understand 9ja politics have no morality, no principles. Just anyhow anyhow. Even most northerners try discourage southerners of traveling abroad for better opportunities. Why won't they travel,a society that likes injustice and exclusion. Does it show love and brotherly care? There is a big gap in the life style of both north and south. Why haven't the leaders ensure to carry everyone along? If you keep suppressing a particular region thinking the other regions will catch up, it's just a big joke. Everything about our system of government is just oppression and conquest. Which affects the country negatively. There is no light to run businesses, too much taxation by government officials, insecurity and much more. Me personally I don't support traveling to Arab countries except you are an expert in a particular field. One's best bet is to travel to Europe, though it's not usually easy during the early stages but as time goes on one will be settled properly. Majority of people that make it big in our society get their funds from government connections. Those in leadership positions always ensure that people remain poor and highly religious so that they can use them during elections.

I don't agree .no body stops you from traveling oversea in Nigeria only visa and money stop you . If you are poor you can go via the libya route. If you get money via the student visa routes . The elite are one and same . North and South . and only benefit them and here family .carry this your playing victims to political section . Who stopped Abia from developing ? Or who told you to sell drugs and do 419 abroad ?who tell you to do prostitution in Italy? Or cultism in Dubai . The emphasis on money and the worship of money and greed is the problem .

this is not 1990. There are thousands of Nigerians in uk, usa, canada working as nurses, accountants, doctors, data analysts, tech workers etc. there is a huge labour shortage in many of these countries so they have no choice than to hire us. You wish everyone is doing menial jobs . Absolutely not true . You will do menial jobs if you relocated illegally or refuse to develop on your skills.

Thanks…… I’m old enough to know who to argue with. I just feel like I should share my experience for those that might need information. I noticed most people that condemned migrating to US, UK or any other western countries are those that have never actually lived there. I believe in giving correct information

True.. A good number who keep screaming 'bills' have not stepped outside there

There are a good number of Nigerians abroad doing well. Alot are increasing their housing portfolio quite quick. Some came relatively recent and are yet to get permanent stay even but are doing well for themselves.

As with everything, there are always different sides
