canadaishome:Construction profession is best for you, depending on the lifestyle you want, but make sure you join one of the trades unions like locals 183 (residential constructions), 506 (labourers construction), 27 (carpenters union), 79 (heavy equipment/crane operators), 793 (plumbers union), 353 (electricians union) and so on. The good thing with construction is that once you are union member, you don’t need all these resumes and will never be scared of loosing your job if you decide to take a long vacation. As a unionized construction worker, you get paid well and get most benefits for yourself and family that most other profession don’t get. Benefits like medical, dental, physio, travel insurance, partial scholarships for your kids, optical and others I can’t think of now, but them plenty. You even get benefits for marijuana if you’re into weed too, provided you have a doctor’s prescription. You can decide to work 6-8 months in a year and use the remaining 4 months to do other things/business if you like. It gives you flexibility like mad. Some people work 8 months during the warmer months and go on EI during the winter months. And once you have your red seal or journeyman permit in construction, you can even work in the US. |

ipobcannibals:How do one apply for such. Wat is the qualification.. must u be a civil engineer? |
| Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by ipobcannibals: 2:47pm On Sep 20, 2022 |
Adex2442:You don’t have to be an engineer to apply. You only need to be a Canadian resident/citizen and apply as an apprentice in f you don’t have any experience in any of the trades. Once you get into one the unions, you will be trained and fully absolved into the union in 18 months. You can still earn while training, though you get paid the apprentice rate, which is even higher than the average minimum wage. After 18 months, you start receiving your full benefits/pay rate. |

I really wish someone can explain why many new immigrants from Nigeria begin to start assuming huge financial costs in their early moments of working instead of saving aggressively to have significant base savings. **facepalm** |

Hello everyone! Please has anybody successfully got the driver’s extract letter from the Nigerian High Commission or is it better to process it from Nigeria. I am in Ontario and I’d appreciate it if anyone has a good contact that can process it from Nigeria. Thanks |

Infodino77:It’s a SCAM, can’t you read between the lines? You are even making enquiries so you will possibly look into the possibility of doing such? I have heard of a scam where the werey agent took them to Ghana to do biometrics, it still ended up being a scam. |

Dabgdap:Yes, the firm is in many markets and is one of North America's largest engineering firms. So it has engineers from various disciplines, not only civil. There are some openings for project coordinator and field engineers posted on the company website. |

Hello, I'm planning to apply to a school that cost around 13000 cad, I plan to work to pay for my tuition fees and as well take care of my feeding and accomodation. My sponsor will take care of my feeding and accommodation for the first 3 months, after that, I'm on my own. Is this possible? Also what are the chances of switching to another college once I arrive in Canada. |
| Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by seunpinky(m): 3:56pm On Sep 24, 2022 |
Thermodynamics:This is my opinion based on my discussions with some folks that came into as students.. 1. You should have your tuition fees for the first year. 2. You can survive (living expenses) on the income you earn while working. 3. You must be ready to hustle real hard, you will do the normal 20 hours a week job and you will also do cash jobs to get extra income. 4. Once the school is on long holiday, you will work for like 80hours a week in other to save up. The money u make during the long break would be used to pay your second year fees. 5. You won't live a luxurious life for these 2 years period. No unnecessary spending, no dates, no fancy phones on credit etc. N:B: working cash jobs/extra hours during school session is illegal, so u must not be caught. In summary, ensure that your first year tuition is sorted before u leave Nigeria |
