Luis Enrique has been known to setup counter-attacking systems in the past. This Spain side are not built for that kind of football.

Counter-attacking systems need an arrowhead—a reliable finisher like Haaland to get on the end of chances. Spain don’t have this currently so they have to possess the ball as a defensive strategy.

There is a club option extension of 1 year so we still have him until 2024. I agree we need to get a long term extension sorted though. He has really developed over the past year and even more since ETH took over.
