You are indeed on ground. But I will like people outside Udenu to understand that the people of Udenu got absolutely nothing from Ugwuanyi.
He is so self-centered that all he does is for his family and self interest.
Udenu as a whole must not pay for the sins of Ugwuanyi. I feel really pained based on the fact that Ugwuanyi wasted 8years of the time given to the people of Enugu North senatorial district.

Ugwuanyi was a house of representation member for 12year, about to complete his tenure as a govenor for 8years and aspiring to be a senator again without any tangible achievement. The people of Enugu North senatorial district should do the needful by rejecting him totally.

While he was governor, his nephew was commissioner, then moved to become the local government chairman of Udenu. He didn't stop at making him the local government chairman, today the same guy is going to house of Assembly.

Enugu State is in the hands of bloggers and photographers. Ugwuanyi rediculed all the giant strides of gov Chime. History won't be kind to Ugwuanyi,as we speak Enugu is one of the dirtiest state's in the East, bad road's everywhere.

That man really disappointed the Nsukka Cultural Zone...

He will meet stiff resistance at the senatorial race with Ideke. Utazi seems to have fallen out with him, he is telling the electorates to vote wisely and not to vote someone who knows nothing about the law to represent them.

Ideke is a barrister, a vocal one who has been in politics for long but unfortunately at the opposition. But this time around the coast is clear for him.

Gburugburu is too docile to represent the vibrant Nsukka zone at the senate... A man that rarely speaks on burning issues?

This time around, he has stopped governance, no new infrastructural inauguration or investment. Has turned Lion Building into a resort where every lowlife association will gain access just to go and collect their 'thanks for coming' gifts. The false visitation the man is receiving is getting into him, thinking the people are in tone with him...

The zone should do everything possible to stop him. Infact people should come together and cut off this cancerous tumor. It's only in Nigeria we rewards a failure with more juicy position.
Am not against people going to collect money from the failure, it's their money but they should still go ahead to vote him out.

Let all the big politicians in Enugu North senatorial district come out and teach the akpu lover a lesson. He can't come and disrupt the peace that the zone have been experiencing all because of his greed.

Yes, and I believe that's what will happen to him...

Umu Enugu are angry!

The man really brought the bar of governance in Enugu State low.

As Ugwuanyi is about to wrap up his two terms in office, i find it hard to give a pass verdict on his administration! His has been one of the most uninspiring and uneventful administrations the state witnessed since 1999! The way this thread slowed down to a crawl as soon as he took over in 2015 is testament to this….sometimes going for weeks without any updates!

That good feeling we all had about the state and the upward trajectory its fortunes were headed during the Chime years are all but gone! And there’s really not much on ground to signpost the Ugwuanyi years in Enugu.

It would be unfair to say NOTHING was achieved during his tenure, but given the high hopes we all had for the state by 2015, it’s fair to say he performed below expectations!

Some achievements were recorded in the areas of road reconstruction: eg, Nsukka internal roads up to Opi junction and Agbani road in Enugu state capital! Then there’s the new flyover built around Abakpa. Of course there may be more new/reconstructed roads or flyovers built in the past 7+ years in the state that i’m not aware of. Also, i noticed the medium to low density neighbourhoods in the state capital are looking a bit cleaner and neater than they did about 3 to 4 years ago…with their roads swept, grasses cut and refuse bins strategically placed in problem spots around the city. And IGR receipts increased a bit from what he met in 2015.

However, the administration stands out more for what they didn’t do than what they did. Still no solution to water supply to homes and businesses in Enugu and other major towns in the state; no value added to electricity generation (whether through private or public effort); no new FDI in the industrial sector in the state, and this is separate from the fact the Buhari admin’ has NOT sited….or caused to be sited, any federally-enabled industry in the entire south-east region…not just Enugu; little or no value was added to AIIA, Enugu, and the airport hasn’t seen much growth or expansion in its operations ever since Buhari became president…with the new terminal building remaining as it was met in 2015; Centenary City still looking like a construction site more than a decade after work commenced during the Chime admin’; Hotel Presidential still left untouched even after all the action and soundbites surrounding its re-emergence….ditto the conference centre too; etc!

Looking at Enugu, we can’t say it’s been transformed from the way it was when Ugwuanyi resumed duties in 2015.

This analysis have shown you are on ground. Thank you. This is an unbiased analysis.

Peter Mba has a rich CV, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Hopefully we get to see them debate before the elections.

Unfortunately you're right about Frank Nweke, infact my friend said only New Haven, Ind Layout, GRA and Trans Ekulu will vote for Frank cry

Also I wonder why Nwakaibeya's past is shrouded in secrecy. No one knows what he does for a living. I have friends who are his supporters and all 4 of them don't know how he made his money. The only thing they say is that he's close to Uzodinma.

For Frank Nweke Jnr, I have long written off. I don't know who his political advisers are but he needs to fire them ASAP if he intends to make at least a mark in the election.

It pains me because of all the four leading candidates, he is the most sellable based on past antecedents and unblemished public sector experience but he is not getting a lot of things right.

As for Uche Nnaji, like you rightly said, his past is shrouded in secrecy. His educational background is unknown. The only detail I was able to get about his public sector experience was that he was once a member of the Federal Capital Territory Development Board under OBJ. Nothing is also known about his private sector experience except that he is a "successful businessman"

.... and Mbah is the man to beat!

Major part of that political structure of PDP and ebeano are sympathetic to Edeoga.

Ekweremadu camp will easily fall for him...

Majority of Enugu north will vote for him due to the way Gburugburu later became too clannish, taking both the deputy gov, senate and some other key political appointments and infrastructure to Udenu.

Edeoga is a home boy and understands Enugu politics so much.

Oga Chris,

You are attaching emotion to your analysis.

I have studied Nigeria's election pattern for over 15 years and there is a pattern I have discovered in the South East.

Outside IMO state, the chance of winning a gubernatorial election without the support of the incumbent is only 15% and the reason is very simple. South East has the worst voter turnout since 2011, the only people that come out to vote are card-carrying members of political parties and since PDP is the dominant party here, an idiot contesting under PDP has an 85% advantage over a genius in another party.

However, one thing that Obi has done is to raise voters' consciousness and if the momentum continues till February, we may be in for some shockers. However, if ordinary people allow career politicians and party members to decide, Peter Mbah and all PDP candidates will clear all the positions as usual.

I pray and hope the best candidate that have the state at heart wins the election.

I share your sentiments too.

But we all know how sentiments shape our elections.

On paper, Peter Mbah is far ahead of others, but there are many changing dynamics that may influence the outcome.

1. Enugu North has 53% of the registered voters in the state. In the last election, they produced 49% of the total votes cast. For emphasis, Nsukka LGA alone had more voters than Nkanu West and East combined.

The challenge is that Ugwuanyi, who should be Mbah's chief marketer in the zone, has lost his popularity for two reasons.

a. His decision to go to the senate against the zoning arrangement in the zone. By convention, Igbo Eze South should produce the next senator of the zone.

b. Concentration of political positions and projects in his LGA alone, at the expense of the zone's interests. For example, if the PDP wins the gubernatorial and senate elections next year, Udenu would have produced:

i. A governor for 8 years (Ugwuanyi).
ii. A deputy governor (Mbah's running mate Ifeanyi Ossai is from Ezimo in Udenu
iii. A serving senator (uguwanyi)

For Project, Udenu alone has the following:
A new state University at Orba; A campus of the State polytechnic at Ezimo; A Teaching Hospital at Orba; A General Hospital at Orba.

2. The changing political dynamics. Ugwuanyi's perceived poor performance is forcing a lot of people to look for alternatives.

3. The Nkanu Factor: Three of the four leading candidates are from Nkanu land (Mbah from the East and Frank and Nnaji from the West).  For their deputy, all three of them (Mbah, Frank, and Nnaji) chose theirs from the North, while Edeoga chose his deputy from Enugu West (Oji River). All being equal, If Edeoga works hard, he could capture the North and if his deputy is able to deliver the West, it may just be over.

But then we can't underestimate the depth of Enugu PDP structure. I still do not see any party springing a surprise in 2023.

Nice analysis,I think this is most realistic & unbiased view

I still think that serious opposition is needed in Enugu. PDP's dominance should be challenged

I live here & there are many people like me who won't vote for him and he's not yet serious

MBA for me even though he's pdp remains the best candidate with a very strong cv but the problem with him is the baggages he comes with, chimaroke, gburus & in fact the whole ebeano stuff plus his stint as commissioner & chief of staff with efcc chasing after him.

Secretly I'm seriously hoping that he successfully pulls a Sullivan on them & just focus on serious development.

FNJ to me still feels like he's fake, with a party that popular in the east, he's just there & not serious with making moves in Enugu.
I feel he's just the mole in APGA just to hold the fort moreover,he still remains ebeano so all these posturing are just formalities. He'll get just few votes in Enugu urban

Edeoga is just uninspiring with not very notable achievements as a 2 time commissioner and a career politician since the1990s I just like that he just decided to challenge them & he's the only real opposition in the state. He also has the isiuzo sympathy going on for him.

In South-east we would cry marginalisation but still go on to marginalise even in our own state. until then we can't move forward.

Nnaji is just to fill up apc slot in Enugu but he has actually impressed me in a short while with grassroots campaigns here and there with uzodimma and "structure" He can only contest the 3rd place with FNJ, because he's relatively unknown

Obviously MBA would eventually win but I hope another party wins a position whether state or national assembly at least Enugu would sit up.

Like digitron said
1 MBA,
2 Edeoga
3 FNJ & Nnaji would struggle for it (my opinion)

What ndi Nsukka have said here is a revelation. I sincerely thought Gburugburu did well in his Zone.

So Ideke + Obi factor may actually work after all. This is good news.

The only down side is he'll definitely work against Peter Obi, except Peter Obi somehow miraculously convinces Ideke to step down.

Gburugburu is a very generous man. He captured the whole elite in Enugu with his generosity and this is the reason there isn't any opposition in Enugu. Most definitely, Abbah & Shere must have benefited from his generosity, they're observing table manners.

He used money meant for development to settle the Elites, most of whom we've forgotten. He even empowered their Children giving them political posts.

True....people said we should respect zoning in our state hence, Ekweremadu's gubernatorial ambition was termed MISSION IMPOSSIBLE...same people went back to their local government/zone & destroyed the zoning formular.

Edeoga was favored to win the PDP primaries but everything changed a night before the primaries. The Nwodos, Ebeano, Gburugburu held nocturnal meetings and decided to pull Mbah from Lagos to come and have the ticket.

People only started hearing Mbah's name about three days to the primaries.

Politics is all about interest.

Gburugburu may appear weak but he is brutal when it comes to political execution. He tactically made it impossible for any serious contender from Igbo Eze to be able to challenge him for the PDP Senatorial ticket for Enugu North.

Vitta Abbah is running for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze-South HoR seat. He is facing strong opposition from the Labour Party candidate Chidi Obetta (A very popular young man who owns one of the most popular hotels in NsuKka). Vitta's issue even became more complicated a few weeks back, after it was discovered that he used different names in the credentials he submitted to INEC.

The Opi-born medical doctor and former SSG under Chimaroke-Dan Shere; has been trying to rebuild his political fortune after his unsuccessful bid for the governorship in 2011 under PDC. He has since returned to PDP and has been operating under the radar. He is very respected among PDP stakeholders from Enugu North and insiders say he was instrumental in pitching the Peter Mbah to Gburugburu and ensuring that the delegates from the North delivered him during the primaries even though many of them only knew Edeoga before then.

It is difficult to say Gburugburu didn't do well in Enugu North. To be fair to him, he tried in a few areas; A University plus a teaching hospital at orba; A speciality hospital at Enugu Ezike, A secretariat Annex, a conference centre and an estate at Ede-Oballa, the Opi-Nsukka and the township road at Nsukka and others. To be fair to him, nobody 10% of what he did in the zone. His dwindling popularity can be traced to :

1. The level of decay in infrastructural deficit over the years has made all his efforts to be largely insignificant.
2. Imposition of unpopular candidates across the zone and even beyond.
3. His adoption of the primitive philosophy of "Nrashi" which prioritizes stomach infrastructure over developmental projects.
4. Poor Media team
5. Inability to maintain and improve infrasture in the capital

It will be interesting to see how all these will shape the campaign and then the election outcome.

I am also watching how the presidential election in the state will turn out.

Ugwuanyi did not support the Atiku/Obi ticket in 2019 because of the closeness of the Atiku to Okwesilieze Nwodo. I don't see him supporting Atiku now.

Obi and his LP team are also a threat to this man (Mbah). I don't know if he will be able to reach a pact with Obi.

or will he go the Chimaroke way and support Tinubu and the APC?

Love your analysis, but I beg to differ.
You said no one has done 10% of what he did in the zone, but my question is who do you expect to do it for that zone?.
He is the first govenor that zone is producing for God sake and should have done more.
Obollo afor, Obollo Eke was neglected, all through to Amalla, same with other communities in that zone.
Chimaroke who wasn't from that senatorial district did the following:

1:Obimo cottage hospital.
2:Enugu ezike district hospital.
3:Ozala Ezimo water project.
4: Rural electrification in Iheakpu obollo and Amalla.
5: Opi Nsukka road.
6: Obollo Afor,Uda Ogurutte road.
7:Odenigbo,Ikenga,Ogurugu roads and even UNN roundabout.
8:Ozalla Ezimo road and many other projects in a zone he wasn't from.

Ugwuanyi failed both home and away and should be told the truth and nothing but the truth.

As for those people who sold their birthright to Ugwuanyi, history will never be kind to them. Ugwuanyi just created a wrong antecedent and I fear the peace in that zone has been tempered with.

The people of Enugu kept oh hearing Nrashi and to be frank the state was Rasheed grin.
They ended up licking the state dry, nothing to show for after 8year.

I don't see him supporting Atiku now

Obi and his LP team are also a threat to this man (Mbah). I don't know if he will be able to reach a pact with Obi.

or will he go the Chimaroke way and support Tinubu and the APC?

......it promises to be interesting

Just leant that Ugwuanyi wasn't present in Abj when Atiku launched his books.

Ugwuanyi is cunning sha, no one knows if he's in Wike camp or Supporting Obi.

Like I'm saying, Labour Party will clear Enugu state next year from top to bottom save for few PDP individuals that did well...

Ugwuanyi has really exposed the inefficiency inherent in PDP.

Enugu State politics is nauseating. How they feel so comfortable with mediocre should be a case study.
The saying "Igbo enwe eze" is not applicable to the people of Enugu State. Our zoombism is on another level, even when you try to librate them they see you as the enemy. I strongly doubt if they can break free in the forthcoming elections.

Will be very happy if it turns out so. Just want Enugu to be what it use to be in eastern Nigeria.
