When you sign a contract as a Resident Doctor, you on call 27/7. That's the main reason you're given accommodation by the hospital in the first place. Dem think say Na 9ja where Dem no go work for their money. Go to General Hospital, thats how patients will wait for like 6am to 11am before doctor will appear and within 2hrs, Doctor will disappear leaving patients in limbo. 23 Likes 3 Shares |

Simple rule of Economics 101. When Supply outstrips demand you have GLUT. It is ironic that in this part of the world we still believe that the Europeans love us in every and any situation. For every gram of favour they do Africans, there is tens of thousands of benefits to them in return. Know this and have peace. 19 Likes 1 Share |

EcoBrick: When they tell them abroad is not easy they will tell you na lie, if e easy why you never return. This is the norm, they should ask their predecessors who have been there for decades. You have to rack up overtime, a tough schedule, etc to make up for the money you are paid. It's a working system, and the patient troop in secs that you almost do not have time for rest. However, these same doctors in Nigeria, do not prioritize the patients, you can be on the wait as long as they care, human lives after all in Naija has no value. But in the UK, a patient can report you for a lackadaisical attitude and you will be dealt with after the investigation is completed or the license is ceased. Enjoy your Japa while it last. Most are motivated by the conversion of the pound they here people earn, but do not know the sweat put in to get such pounds. Good luck! The truth is, in abroad, every penny you make, you must earn it, that's why some people find it hard to send money home. 16 Likes 1 Share |

Kinddetective:There cannot be a right government until the West is put in their place. The interest of the West in developing countries is to make sure the developing countries remain impoverished so the citizens of those countries would find migration to the West for 'greener pastures' attractive where they're then exploited and exposed to modern day slavery. Their intent is to keep the West as a 'paradise' in the minds of the manipulated public. The West influenced the politics of Africa directly/indirectly. The right govt will get the 'Gaddafi treatment' 28 Likes 3 Shares |

One of the reasons I don't like medicine and I won't practice for long. I can't imagine myself working all day and doing long calls for years. Me that I like a soft Life. Medical doctors are comfortable not rich and the pay is not proportional to the work so it's not worth it. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

[quote author=Sakamaje post=117467015]I've always felt that this latest wave of 'japa' frenzy is a carefully orchestrated 'voluntary' slave labour racket. Think about it. Africans are being made to cough out millions of naira to emigrate to the West, under the guise of going there to school or get better job opportunities. The school fees sef no be beans. Only to end up merely surviving on pittance at the end of the day. Some even end up doing more than one post-graduate degree just to legally remain in the country. Upon getting their degree sef, they still struggle to not only fit in but can barely land a job that pays high enough to justify all that expensive tuition, so since they can't escape the rat race they suck it up and join the already saturated low-paying labour market. And they can't even compete with the Brits in their own turf so they just have to settle for whatever jobs they can get. As for the medical professionals being poached, every grass wey dey green no be pasture; this dey shud knw! |

There's likely a sellout from a so called fellow African. The scenario happens often, even in Nigeria. The experienced Nigerians over there will tell the oyinbos not to pay so much, that they have people who will do the job for less. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Sakamaje: You have made good points but totally disagree that it is " a carefully orchestrated voluntary slave labour racket" The Europeans did not force anybody. I am not aware of any slave ship at APAPA or TINCAN port loading people to Europe. People are leaving on their own will and the normal nigerian mentality has even made youths to see it as ALL IN ALL. Have you ever wondered why South Africans are not leaving as much as Nigerians? Have you bothered to look at what Nigeria and Pakistan amongsts the largest contributors of the emigrant doctors have in common? Simple answer, POVERTY. 15 Likes 1 Share |
