Wow! I have heard of it but never Knew it was celebrated this way. Africans are rich in culture and I love cultures too. Wish to see replica of this in future.

Africa Amaka
Igbo Amaka
Yoruba Amaka
Hausa Amaka
like seriously...

I too love Africa, I am a proud pan Africanist.

Wish we can be having it like this across Africa every ten years.

Nice one.
Unfortunately for the spiritually discerning, it also marked the beginning of the downward spiral of Nigeria. As it seems it celebrated the gods across Africa and not God.
Very stupid assumption.

The white man had Christainity yet they enslaved your people for 400 years

The Arabs had Islam yet they enslaved Africa for 1300 years and they haven't stopped, there is underground SLAVERy going on in UAE as we speak.

You all go to church and vilify your ancestors by casting out some imaginary curse with the white man's religion, if that's not stupidity I don't know what it is.

As if the Religious practices by modern day clerics and pastors in Nigeria is even genuine.

Alfas are selling charms and giving fake prophesies.

Pastors are doing fake miracles, building schools with public tithes and offerings and making it private, they have no hospital, no motherless baby homes, no food bank, little or no humanitarian services yet they go around cruising on private jets and do not follow their own teachings.

Black Brothers are killing their kinsmen in the name of Islam, if that's not stupidity I don't know what it is.

Free yourself from colonialism and Religious reconditioning.

That was when human beings inhabited Nigeria, parents were parents, friends were friends and most leaders were leaders.Reverse is the case now and the reason we are were we are today.Take note, the slide was slow to this level and we can slowly push up back to that level,it will be difficult but possible, going downhill is easier, climbing up hill is harder. Is anyone ready to make this climb?I'm in doubt.

This is where the vision and assperation of NBM was birth. The idea was to protect all blacks from physical, economic and mental slavery. To be a voice to the voiceless. To provide assistance and to rewrite the history of Africa by Africa, but today the purpose of the movement have been defeated.I believe one day Africa will get it right.

FESTAC VILLAGE

I remember FESTAC VILLAGE as it was when it was first built for the 20,000 black diaspora who stormed Nigeria for the event. From Ghana, South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Jamaica, USA, Barbados, Cuba, Brazil, Antigua, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Grenada, Bahamas, etc etc.

When you entered FESTAC then, it was like somewhere in Los Angeles! Clean roads with sidewalks, and folks strolling around, taking pictures etc.

IN FACT, THE WHOLE OF LAGOS WAS BUBBLING. YANKEE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, IN THE CLUBS, BARS, HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, THE BEACH, THE STREETS, EVERYWHERE.

Facilities

''A housing estate known as Festac Village was constructed as accommodation for about 17,000 participants. However, the long-term objective of the village under the Federal Housing Programme was to relieve some of the housing pressure in Lagos. The housing estate was proposed for construction within two years, with more than 40 contractors working on different sites of the project. In total 5,088 dwelling units were built prior to the festival and an additional 5,687 were to be completed by the end of 1977. During the festival, the housing estate was the venue for performance rehearsals and interaction by participants as various troupes rehearsed their routines in the day and at night.

For hosting the performances and lectures, a state-of-the-art multipurpose national theatre was built, to serve also as a lasting centre of African art and culture. The theatre's design was based on the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria. The new complex had two exhibition halls, a 5,000-capacity performance and event hall, a conference hall with 1,600 seats and two cinema halls. The theatre hosted dance, music, art exhibitions, cinema, drama and the colloquium.'' - Wiki

I will not be surprised if some western countries did not like the black gathering and decided to use our bad leaders to stop it.

There has been notable development since then, in many respects.

Not a single expressway existed in Nigeria in 1977. Lagos-Ibadan was our first, commissioned in 1978.

Today, such roads are the norm across Nigeria.

Many cities we have today like Calabar, Uyo, Awka, Abakiliki, Ikot-Ekpene, Minna, Jalingo, etc were villages or glorified villages in 1977. Today they are modern cities with expressways, flyovers, universities, international conference centres, and shopping malls.

Even Lagos which hosted the event for the most part, is vastly improved today in terms of infrastructure and so on.

Don't take these developments for granted.

Rome was not built in a day.
now I understand, festac meant something bigger than a mere carnival.
It was a rallying point for blacks world over.
I believe the West won't want such a program again
It scares them.
A program that disrupts Anglo Franco pseudo boundaries in Africa
I don't know why we stopped such programs

Oga leave religion out of Nigeria's mess. Idol worship has nothing to do with it, we have poor leadership and a weak system. Go and research the mode of worship in China, Japan, South Korea etc yet they are doing well. Una too dey carry religion for head yet people like you don't even practice what you preach. Let love be our religion that's all we need

My Mama tells me say the celebration; the extravagant spending of the nation resources marks the beginning of Nigeria economic woes and instability. That Nigerian politicians learn a formidable way to siphon nationa assets for their personal uses. And that ever since then, Nigeria as a country, never ever get it right again.

The occasion was glorious. But, it marks the beginning of our economic and political woes.

African religion is based on the belief that lesser deities exist, which compliment, but are subservient to the Almighty Creator.

It is not for you to say they are wrong, because you don't know.

What we DO KNOW is that AFRICAN RELIGION WAS THE FIRST ON EARTH, and Africa is the CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION.

Go tell that to the white colonialists that taught you 'Jesus' and 'Mary'.
Should also tell that to the Arab slave lord that taught them about Mohammed and Allah? grin

This country was fast rising to become a rich and powerful black empire of sort that will liberate all black men all over the world. Unfortunately for her,the West can't survive without Africa's resources. Hence the coded Carthage like treatment on Nigeria to destroy it's influence.
Really, West have a hand in Nigerian's woes?

So it was the West that sent the likes of Abacha, Babangida, Buhari and the rest of them to be stealing and be wasting the monies that would have been used for the development of the country even to the extent of borrowing and then embezzling?

So the West told Nigeria rulers to be tribalistic and nespotic to the extent of undermining the growth and development of an organisation just to favour his/her people?

So the West told Nigeria to stagnate growth in the country because some regions feel the other regions are growing and developing faster than them?

So the West wrote a sham paper and called it constitution, that have different rules for different regions in the same country, a constitution that didn't talk anything about advancement of Science, engineering and technology rather it was only talking about religion, religion and religion?

So the West told Nigerians to be giving birth like guinea pigs without any means of training, while other countries are giving birth for technological advancements, Nigeria is giving birth for casting election, as it is now Nigeria don't even have record of the number of children given birth to in a year, but every year there is budget for approval?

Please Nigeria is its own problem nothing like western negative involvement.

You have growth and not development. Every sector of Nigeria, though not as huge as it is today, performed better qualitatively and had better outcome.

Why do you think the god from the Bible is the real god when we have over 5000 religion?
That they are way ahead of us to detail the words of God in books, animal skin doesn't mean ours is inferior.

The old testament way of religion is very similar to our own, they sacrifice lambs and fruits to god and we do the same here. So what is the difference?

The Arab Islam sacrifices rams to God but if we do the same it's seen as idol worshipping why?

China wouldn't have been what it is today if they let other people's religion sink into their culture.

Good old days when there was no Ipob and Boko Haram. Time when moraless humans were few or were never born. Time when there was no bad side effects of social media like Yahoo, Facebook and Google. Time when few available universities then were dedicated to duties and there was nothing like ASSU thinking of sharing from national cake even when they don't work to justify the payment. Time when one can treck from City to city without fear of kidnapping, ritualism and banditry.

Time when strangers can be allowed to sleep over without fear of loosing personal treasure. Time when Fulani children rearing animals in different locations were friendly and also safe from attacks. Time when kanu was in primary school and was so innocent without having mind to turn Igbo lands to killing field under guise of unknown gun men. May God restore good old days memories back for us in modern form that are free of violence, kidnapping and get quick syndrome
Tinubu built Lagos and hosted the festac festival, infact Tinubu built Lagos and was the president and the head of state then when Lagos was the capital territory of Nigeria.

Remember, since 1960, Nigeria have always be ruled by someone from Nigeria.

While your point might be valid, I wanted to mention that our very own politicians left us in this current mess of a country.

Until we unite again with one mind, Nigeria will never be good as it was in the 60s and 70s.

Like I always tell anyone, vote wisely in 2023, don't be clouded by religion or tribe, vote your conscience.
