Court orders were only obeyed, Students suffered for the 8 months and students are still suffering... Cause why release academic calender, when you are not motivated to teach, why put students and parents on panic mode just to raise money to return back to varsities when you won't teach ? Why endanger our lives by asking us to resume on so so so date and leaving us to face the flood, kidnappers and the rest of them only for me to come to school and waste the little resources I have....

ASUU knew all along and even Femi Falana asked them not to agree on mere promises, but No..... Now you are crying fowl...

The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke had in a recent interview noted that the lecturers had called off their action and returned to work but were challenged by the nonpayment of their eight months salaries which had posed a huge challenge for the lecturers to meet their daily needs and be able to discharge their responsibilities to the returning university students.

Mr. Odiir said the returning lecturers might not give their best because of the obvious challenge of lack of funds, “and that means that the universities would be reopened but teaching and learning might not take place because the lecturers are not motivated.

“So we are appealing to the Federal Government to fulfill its part of the bargain to effect the payment of the salaries of the returning lecturers to enable them fully resume work.

“There is no doubt that the lecturers would obey the court ruling and resume classes but they would certainly not be able to engage in lecturing if they don’t start getting their eight months salaries.

“That is why the Federal Government should pay them without further delay in the spirit of the agreement brokered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“We also appeal to the Speaker to do a follow up to the good work he initiated to have the lecturers call off the action by impressing on all the relevant authorities to have the salaries paid so that our public universities can roar back to life.
We can continue to be reckless, if you don't work you can't get paid.

In my defense, ASUU has always been unreasonable in negotiations with the federal government.

ASUU were insisting on suffering themselves and the poor students by not calling off the strike.

They also claimed to be ok with the "No work, No Pay" policy.

Aside from that, we'll always see them insult the government at any given chance; either on social media or live TV.

They also said they were never going to beg the government because they were clearly the boss of them and not the other way around.

Why should they be paid when they were willing to stress the strike up until the next year unless they get what they want?

Why should they paid when they told students to sacrifice two years of their time for them?

Why can't they also sacrifice their salaries for the cause?

It's important to note that ASUU was willing to stress the strike for as long as they want because they were 100% sure of their paycheck before or after the strike has been called off.

If they get paid, who will compensate the students?

I am sure the students have already been compensated with exam timetables. And lecturers are preparing to come and stamp their foot on the ground in lecture theaters to brag about how they'll get paid whether they come to class or not.

I want to implore the federal government to adhere strictly to the "No work, No pay" policy.

This is the only way we can use to break ASUU's wing and allow our students to graduate at the appropriate time.

How long will the government keep begging ASUU? Year after year, ASUU must declare a strike!

In my opinion, the salary issue should also be tabled at the court of law. I will love to see them win that case in court

The "No work, No Pay" policy must stand in other to curb yearly strikes.
May God reward you for your insensitivity... Reward you the way Nigeria is managing education.. You shall be treated like shit just the way federal government is doing the masses... Please say loud amen...I dare you. Don't be a coward say Amen..

Yes oO...ASUU should have known better, even a year old toddler is very much aware Buhari doesn't give a damn about Education, it was glaring and obvious in his body language and that which was allocated to the Educational sector as captured in his yearly budgets...

But No...!! ASUU decided to dare Buhari, A whole Buhari ruling Nigeria with a NEPA bill certificate, A whole Buhari that once supported the agenda that education is a haram, No no no, you dare not touch the Tigers tail and go scout free, for months, FG pretended like ASUU was'nt in existence, One month salary turned into 2, 3 and counting but ASUU blatantly told the media their lecturers has other businesses and can sustain themselves for the next 5years that they are unshakable and unbothered even if the Universities would be shut down for 2years...

The students were suffering and paying dearly with their GP's due to an accelerated and congested academic calendar with no time for rest in a session, most parents were gnashing their teeths because bills were piling up within an accumulated short time frame, most students lost their lives, most dropped out, businesses within school environment was totally shut down, market women exhausted and ate up their capital due to low demands signalling a sad end in there businesses, most students were still battling with their landlords for delayed payments for the rent owed in 2020/2021 and ASUU added 2022...!!

But Hey, we are ASUU, we did not work for 6months, we want our full payments before we can call off the strike after all agreement has been met, it became another tussle entirely, 6months became 8months, and the FG registered CONUA, ASUU was about to become irrelevant and inconsequential due to the birth of a new child. Automatically, their tune changed and their ego was shattered, it dawned on them they have to obey the court order and called off the strike.

A strike of 8months ended up with absolutely nothing been achieved, UTAS which was top of their food chain was'nt implemented, Agreement of 2009 were fulfilled by mere words as usual, they only achieved an audio increment of salary which they smiled and became comfortable like a child who was about to receive a caprison from his mother, meaning all along, ASUU has only one mission in sight, they were only interested in there respective pockets and stomach infrastructural development.

The University is not your father's property, neither is it your generational inheritance, if you are not comfortable with the system after channelling your grievances, why not honourably resign or wait for a reputable government to assume power, afterall, most professors and lecturers were returning officers used to rig Buhari back to power in 2019 general elections, instead of subjecting the masses to a different language of self inflicted hardship in the name of fighting for the welfare of the students, can the same showboating of extreme arrogance be replicated in a private sector?? Now they want to eat their cake and have it.

ASUU should have known better, it's a case of "You won't know the effects until it starts affecting you"

Since the matters are going to appellate court they should wait for the judgement

But in all fairness they should get Atleast 40 to 60%

Students should also get busary paid to them or tuition slashed

Will they still teach students in the "merged" sessions?
Will they still supervise students?
Will they teach 2020,2021 and 2022 year one students?

Both ASUU n Fg are USELESS. If they could negotiate n call off in no time, why have they held up students future? Most young men are keen to resume for sexcapades.(we can't totally blame them) Do they expect students to resume with zeal for education? Tertiary education is a waste of time in Nigeria. Nigeria itself is gone. You entered 100L with zeal to excel academically, one useless lecturer will fail or give you poor grades. One lecturer in my department gave ALL the boys "grin" in a course only course rep and another guy whom his father n d lecturer are friends got "C". Most of these girls passed with A's n B's. It's not been fair to us.
Why didn't they think about such things if they want to truly improve education. They've played Chess with Nigerian students and FG came out top
We hope we've learnt in this wasted administration to vote wisely and all demand for OUR right.

We shouldn't be asking this question.
The senators and representatives enjoy a lot of frivolous money and they have never been owed for a day.
Meanwhile, their usefulness is nothing. They are bit really needed.
Priority should be on the lecturers who are ten times more useful.

We will take you seriously when you start applying your No work, No pay to the LGA councillor & chairman, state lawmaker & governor, representative, senator & president plus their aides who collect your money in millions but do no work.
Do you understand that

valentineuwakwe:
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has appointed 28,000 Special Assistants for political units.

A statement by the media aide to the Governor, Kelvin Ebiri, said the appointment takes immediate effect.

This is coming less than 24 hours after the governor appointed 14,000 special advisers for the political units and 319 ward Liaison Officers.

The governor also appointed 40 local government area Liaison Officers.

Who makes up for the losses of the students, eternal losses that money is inadequate to compensate for? ASUU went into the strike with their eyes open. Nobody blindfolded or cajoled them. Members are all adults who know the consequences of their actions by weighing the options, and I'm sure that they knew the name of the game. Last Catch: I've never seen a situation whereby EMPLOYEES, no matter how indispensable to the institution they think they are, direct their EMPLOYERS how to pay their salaries. Never!

They were only proving stubborn because they know that their paycheck is guaranteed in the long run
