Even those doing McDonald's job, especially as they rise to become manager dey earn money.

McDonald's managers make about $60,000 depending on location. Not to talk of owners who also work as managers (or their wives or kids).

Ordinary McDonald's workers earn $19 an hour, especially night shift.

This is Canadian dollar o. 1 CAD is 620 NGN today. It was 424 earlier this year. Do the mathematics. Calculate what a student working 20 to 40 hours a week earns. Even remove 35% for the taxes.

The math is mathing.

That's life. One can't have it all. Yes, the cold can be very brutal and you have to dress yourself and the kids in layers. But I will rather pick the cold. It's bearable.
Insecurity, economic instability, weak institutions, poor system of education, epileptic power supply and a very weak passport are very unbearable. It takes extra strength to live in Nigeria. An elderly friend once said "Alagbara lo n gbe ni Nigeria ".

Have you tried to build a house in Nigeria to know what it is like?
You say we can't afford to buy a house without mortgage but do you know how much the 5% down-payment for that mortgage is? Can you confidently say you can afford that as you are in Nigeria?
Let me break it down to you. You want to buy a town house of say $800,000 but before you can go for a mortgage you need $40,000 cash as down-payment. Whether you like it or not, convert that $40k to naira and tell me if that won't build a comfortable house in Nigeria.
omo u just said 5percent of the money required to buy a house over there will build a comfortable house in Nigeria. And you are still saying over there is better than Nigeria. Stop contradicting yourself abeg

You hit the mail on the head. The issue of inverters is fairly new to me… they weren’t a thing when I left Nigeria. I can admit Nigerians can build homes, but frankly so what? I own my home, through the mortgage system. I have enough equity in it to build 2-3 mansions in Nigeria. But here’s what I can’t compromise - peace/security, excellent schools that are free for the first 16 years of my child’s life, excellent healthcare system, which means every medical issue isn’t potentially life threatening, never having to “pray” for visas just to travel to South Africa. There are way too many intangibles we tend to ignore when we reduce everything to “I can build a house outright”.

As @Treadway himself admits, he benefits from a Nigeria having little to no regulations… that is a non-starter for me. I like an ordered society where I don’t have to drive past mounds of rotting garbage daily on my way back to my mansion sealed off with 15 foot barbed wire fences.
agreed is better than Nigeria. Nigeria is better than Niger. Niger citizens do migrate to Nigeria and start doing our dirty jobs. is better than Nigeria, Nigeria citizens do migrate to USA to do thier dirty jobs

A townhome in Nigeria costs about N40 million minimum to build, as at 2019 (in Port Harcourt).

I don't know what the costs would be now.

This is only Ontario and BC.

Unless you have a huge family, you don't need that kind of money anywhere else in Canada. Including for a standalone townhome.

I like the fact that I can drive very long distances far into the night through different rural communities of Canada without fearing a thing.

No burglary proof, no gates, yet no fear. That peace of mind and serenity is priceless.

You can also do that in many rural communities in Nigeria. The key word here is RURAL.

You guys should stop consoling yourselves.

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THIS ? APART FROM AMERICA OOOO BECAUSE IN AMERICA YOU CAN HAVE A DECENT LIFE ALTHOUGH you are in an unsafe country but in america you can live a good life , BUT TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THOSE IN THE UK AND CANADA IF YOU offer them all 1 million dollars today they will all run back to nigeria today. its poverty that is keeing those people trapped in those two countries. they tax them like crazy over there so they never have money so they are trapped but yet lonely and depressed and there is no way out. many of them are suicidal. i have seen a few on the news who went crazy on the streets of toronto. so if you offer these naijas in the uk or canada 1 million dollars they will all japa back to naija asap. na sapa dey keep them for uk and canada

on a side note i fill up my tank today with 5000 naira. thats 5 pounds. in the uk to fill up your tank is 100 pounds shocked shocked shocked shocked

the bolded are wildly inaccurate and exaggerated. Most working class folks use inverters now just as most homes now use boreholes for water. I have been using an inverter right from 2014 even as a bachelor with 120k salary. Till now I have 24hr electricity as do most of my contacts/friends etc. Having an inverter setup is pretty commonplace these days.

It is actually very easy to build in Nigeria thanks to lack of regulations. Not everyone will live in Lagos, as Nigeria does not start and end there. I got mine sorted before I got married at age 30. Buy land today and with enough funds on standby even with the horrendous exchange rate you will build a 3-bed tastefully with 15m total (land cost inclusive). Buying is even easy now, 6-7m and you'll still get a 3-bed in an okay area. It always easier and cheaper to buy houses as people only sell houses out of desperation. Ppl selling lands are not usually desperate to sell. Smart people are buying property for really cheap rates at the moment. Screw Bitcoin, buy houses!

PS: I never even got to 500k monthly salary till 2020 when I resigned to face business squarely. Sales reps in good companies/multinationals like Merck, BAT wey I know dey build block of 4-6flats, most of them still under 40. Artisans, meat sellers sef get their own house. Fancy or not, it is theirs. So scratch the only the wealthy can own house thought.
Okada rider dey my side wey don build two house... As person see am naso e go be for the person... Na the way I dey reason am be that ...
