It depend... If you can earn remotely in dollars, stay here and enjoy. Otherwise, your hardwork is of better use overseas. Imagine you are in a country that if you become president, your countrymen would start blowing themselves up because of your ethnicity.

So lately I have seen friends, families, colleagues at work, church members relocating abroad.
These people are "doing well" here in Nigeria.
Many of them resign from their high paying jobs, sells their properties and put up to like 25 - 40 million naira to relocate a family of say 5.
Is it really worth it?
Can't we make a good living here in Nigeria especially people with a good job here?
I need clarifications from those that have gone to enlighten me.
From my experience of staying abroad for 5 years ... Honestly it depends on your personality and values ... Like me I'll rather stick to my remote job that pays well than relocate... And be traveling and coming back .... There are a lot of things I personally consider, like my children up bringing , my investments and the rest

Nigeria as a country is wealthier than most of these countries. Nigeria is number 27 wealthiest nation in the world but the politicians do not allow the wealth to spread.

Nigeria is a good leadership away from greatness.

For UK student visas, people should not misconstrue it for residency permit. My fear is a lot of people that get student visa feel they have got resident permit. Hell no!. The road is tricky as the UK govt is very sly and will use funny rules to throw people away after taking their tuition fees and other fees. Be careful folks.

True though I respect every individual's decision to either stay back or seek better opportunities outside Nigeria but I just knew I had to relocate that year.

tell that to people wey never travel... U fit save 10k USD as in how? I don't get it

Survey finds more than half of Americans can't afford a $1,000 emergency. Bankrate, a personal finance company, conducted a survey in January to assess Americans' ability to pay for surprises expenses. The results found only 44 percent of U.S. adults had enough money saved to cover a $1,000, unplanned expense.

Tell that story to nursery school kids

God bless you, the 10k is even an overestimation but i didn’t want to sound too pessimistic because some latinos who live like 11 in a 3 bedroom apartment and being very disciplined working construction can pull that 10k savings off BUT everyday normal americans don’t have that kind of money- people don’t get it - to save $5k cash na wahala with bills everywhere - dem never travel before no mind them

HiThis a banker dairy .Now washing dead bodies . You call it progress !Hi diary,
I have become lazy to type. Little update about what's happening

For the first time in my life, I touched a dead person. I don't even know how I feel but I think I was a bit scared.

I am currently on a night shift in a hospice, that's end of life people. Had checked up on this man around 1 and he was still breathing and 30 minutes later he was gone.

He needed to be washed, dressed and made presentable. He was warm and felt like he was still sleeping. Just that this time, it looked like a deep sleep. The nurse asked if I was alright doing it. I sha tried by best to hide any of my feelings. Omoh! Things I have seen and experienced in this UK journey.

I just wish I can stop this care assistant job permanently but it seems I will still be stuck

What about people that are already washing deadbody in Nigeria? Let that useless banker wash that deadbody well if they wouldn't make it as a famous undertaker. In all her banking career she never networked with anyone or watch the types of businesses that made the most deposit.
Anyway, UK is not a good place to rise economically, they are going down.

Best comment so far!
All these bandwagoners, mumu people. They've not asked themselves why is it that it is only wealthy people the foreign countries are giving visa? Why they need your bank account to be fat from money you made in this same Nigeria that is not good o! The answer is simply because they need your money!
A white friend of mine told me over there, they can't raise the kind of money we raise here to pay for tuition.

Sharrap, Nigeria is not nearing collapse,it's still one of the best countries on earth.

Nigerians in Canada and America are even complaining of not being able to build wealth.

Shootings and gun violence also happens in America and Canada.

Some Nigerians here have 24hrs power using inverters and solar.

Most Nigerians can easily build their houses while you niggas in canada and US will be paying for mortgages for several years.

You will not appreciate this two eyed servant.... Till you get to 70 when you will be lonely in USA and UK and maybe in one old people homes that your kids will dump you.. You will yarn to come home but Shane no go let you.. Yoie kids no go let you, you might noy be able to afford it... Even if you can, your kids will not come back with you and your friends have left you and gone far in life...

That is when depression sets in...

Remember this... I have seen it happen. I lost a returnee due to depression the kids abandoned him and the wife didn't come home... He was buried in body bags
That doesn't invalidate my point.

Let me tell you the truth, those you see in care homes are properly taken care of even more than most African kings. That is why they are called senior citizens. They are seen mainly by professionals, Professional nurses, dieticians, GPs. Government provide every damn thing for them. Their families come there to visit them always. They are not abandoned. They are taken there to be properly taken care of by professionals.

Same thing is obtainable in Nigeria.

Let's compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges

Here is my take on this;
Abroad
For minimun wage job, at $12 per hour, when you work 8 hours your make $96. Net (after taxes) would be about $80 for a day's job. If you have an internet plan of $30 monthly, this amount would pay for 2 months plus.

Nigeria
For minimun wage job, at #30, 000 salary for a month, that equivalent of #1k daily. Now, if you have like you said Airtel at #5k per month, you would have worked for 5 days to afford your montly internet bill.

Is this not what these discussion is about?

I don't know whether you are an accountant. Your analysis is just on point and I believe this is what should really drive the discussion.

That alone is worth leaving the country for

Lol. And you don't get killed by police officer abroad, most especially USA?

Is alright

Imagine, you traveled out send 15 million Dollars for building an estate, put it on rent and enjoy the inflow of money
You think its easy to save that kind of money over there? Some citizens of these western countries have not seen $100k in their entire lives. The migrants rarely have that amount in savings but the difference is-naira is weak against dollars and any small money sent home fills everywhere.

This is the best response to those who think they can make people who intend to stay in Nigeria to look like fools.

To japa or stay is a choice...don't make japa look like paradise, there is no utopian society.

If God should bless me and I travel to America, I will just go to a Community College and study Nursing.

I heard it's cheaper than University.

Then from there, I will walk my way up the career ladder in the Nursing field.

Or I will use my Bachelors Degree from here in Nigeria and apply for what they call Accelerated Bachelor of Science In Nursing (ABSN).

But I heard the latter is quite expensive.

I wish I can get a fully funded Scholarship undecided

To get my Official Transcript from Unilag be the wahala now angry

Anyways, until then, let me keep hustling here in Nigeria.

Okay...Bye.

Not everyone abroad is living in US oga. Personally, I can't leave Nigeria and go to to US.

If you have ever stepped your toes outside Nigeria you'll know the reason people are leaving in droves. Even your politicians have homes in UK and some other good countries and are only in Nigeria to keep milking people like you

Can 200+ million Nigeria citizens leave the country for abroad? Is it possible? Meanwhile, many have died trying.

Traveling abroad is an investment that you will gain on the long run

But I prefer the father goes over there make money, set up building here then make arrangements for wife and children to be coming for vacation

As the children graduates they relocate there
.

So you don't know that mummy's engine must be regularly Serviced so that it won't knock, and you want daddy to be coming once or twice a year to do that.

You are a jocker

About 6 weeks ago, Canadian dollar exchanged for #520. Now it is #550 and makes it cheaper for me to get one or two things done in Nigeria and with change in my pocket over here even if it is only bus pass it will buy.

Consider that!

That's exactly what he's talking about. Without converting your income into Naira, you guys still wouldn't feel fulfilled with your income in abroad. You should be able to measure your overall standard of living and income in the environment where you find yourself.

I've stated it here on numerous occasions that by the second year of the next administration, a Dollar will exchange for close to #2,000. Maybe by then, you'd understand what's fuelling the japa syndrome.

The country had been murdered from the inception, the funeral arrangements is what's currently ongoing.

I agree with you Gaby my brother from another mother. I gave on the country more than 10 years ago when it was in way better shape than this. in two years', time , we will need visa to enter Ghana, Togo and neighboring African countries.
