Can you people just acknowledge the fact that you are trading some good things in Nigeria for some bad things in Canada/abroad and vice versa and let's move on?

What's the essence of your big man here if a storekeeper there can buy up your company here....
Do what suits you and let others live their fulfilled lives.
That someone Japa doesn't mean they can't be running big investments here and coming back home and traveling back again.

If you left your father's house for a better life anywhere in Nigeria, same thing for someone who left Nigeria to a country of their choice.

Some folks are here shouting racism, whereas tribalism is the order of the day in Nigeria.

Hypocrites!!!

Such a sad and painful reality my dear brother.

You got it, the problem is our leaders, both old and young, from Obasanjo to Tinubu to Atiku to Obi and the rest. Only if they can love this country with all their hearts, instead of stashing funds meant for developments abroad.

You dey wait for government you go old
No go find money comot for that useless country that has no single hope for youths

I knew where I started in 2015 and where I'm today with no tangible assistance from anyone or government. They should just provide basic amenities, stamp out corruption and provide little assistance to those who need support to grow

Honestly, it's 100pct worth it if you are going with Permanent Residency. You get to settle on time economically in your destination.

If you are relocating through student route, it's largely going to worth it if you do your research very well and understand how to plan your way to permanent residency at your destination in the shortest possible time.

If you are going on a visit visa, to become illegal afterwards, it's not worth it at all except your life is not meaningful in Nigeria.

Whatever you decide, let me end it with my usual assertion. "A Cat in Nigeria cannot become a Lion overseas, and a Lion in Nigeria will not become a Cat either overseas.

You know yourself, capabilities etc. Research your destination and set your expectations accordingly.
Good luck !

Beautiful You!

You have just come abroad. Things at abroad get better with time but it could take time . You can bring your family from home, you can finish paying your mortgage and even buy bigger house or additional houses, buy new and expensive cars. People abroad don't make noise about their wealth but I can tell you the rich guys are in abroad especially with the Naira falling in international market.

Don't worry when you get to 60s and 70s you will know what I am telling you and you will remember this day

That doesn't invalidate my point.

Let me tell you the truth, those you see in care homes are properly taken care of even more than most African kings. That is why they are called senior citizens. They are seen mainly by professionals, Professional nurses, dieticians, GPs. Government provide every damn thing for them. Their families come there to visit them always. They are not abandoned. They are taken there to be properly taken care of by professionals.

Same thing is obtainable in Nigeria.
you can be dumped in a care home by your kids when you grow old

.. I will love to be with my kids and grand kids visiting when I grow old and die in love not in loneliness...

You can be in care home.... Wish you luck

So lately I have seen friends, families, colleagues at work, church members relocating abroad.
These people are "doing well" here in Nigeria.
Many of them resign from their high paying jobs, sells their properties and put up to like 25 - 40 million naira to relocate a family of say 5.
Is it really worth it?
Can't we make a good living here in Nigeria especially people with a good job here?
I need clarifications from those that have gone to enlighten me.

Nigeria isn't nearing collapse, Nigeria has collapsed.

There are a handful of industries worth working in, all are dependent on being paid in dollars.

Is there much gun crime in Canada?
In 2020, gun murders accounted for close to 40% of the country's 743 homicides, while more than 60% of gun-related violent crime in urban areas involved handguns. Canada's 2020 firearm homicide rate was 5.6 times that of Australia, according to each country's government statistics.27 Jul 2022

Shootings and gun violence happens in the US, but it does not affect the vast majority of the populace. I’ve lived in 4 states over 17 years and never had a problem with violence. In Nigeria, even your governors and pastors are not immune from violence, armed robbers and kidnappers.

Yes some Nigerians have access to 24 hours electricity, but they must be wealthy enough to be able to afford inverters and solar infrastructure. That amounts to <0.0001% of the population. By contrast 99% of the US population takes 24 hr electricity for granted with no need to invest in anything else.

The idea that “most Nigerians can easily build their houses” is false. <0.001% can truly afford it. Most of those who can afford it do so by stealing public funds. How many Nigerians can truly build homes on their legitimately earned income? The average American can own a home on an average pay check.

Just because you don japa no mean say people wey dey make no dey make am... This life make one just hustle hard... Okada man dey build house well for Nigeria ooo...

Let's say you invested 100 million in 2014. And let's say you get steady 10 million a year.

So far, in 8 years, you have gained 80 million from your 100 million investment. Not bad.
80% return in 8 years.

Now let's convert.
In 2014, 100 million naira was a bit more than 600,000 USD with 165 NGN to USD rate. These are your returns:
2015 50,000 USD (200 NGN to USD)
2016 40,000 USD (250 NGN to USD)
2017 33,000 USD (300 NGN to USD)
2018 28,500 USD (350 NGN to USD)
2019 25000 USD (400 NGN to USD)
2020 20,000 USD (500 NGN to USD)
2021 14,000 USD (700 NGN to USD)
2022 11,000 USD (900 NGN to USD)

Total gain = 221,000 USD in 8 years. That's a 38% return in 8 years. Roughly 5% annual return.
As the currency deteriorates, the real rate of return (in dollars) will continue to worsen.

In such a case, you would be better off just buying US bonds and collecting your 2 - 4% guaranteed annual return.

It's 20 degrees now. It gets to 35, 40 degrees in the summer. The spring is usually 5 to 10 degrees. The winter gets really cold but those with cars barely notice.
