…warn against repeat of 1963 saga

The leadership of the Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, has restated its support for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The council also warned Yoruba not to allow the repeat of 1963 First Republic election saga, “where about 40 percent of Yoruba were misled with their political co-travellers to NCNC to support Nnamdi Azikiwe and later ran back to Awolowo to seek for forgiveness after his emergence”.

A statement by the YCE National Treasurer, Aremu Akindele, made available to Vanguard on Sunday, lauded Awolowo for introducing free education, free health services for the poor.

They added that Tinubu would also repeat Awolowo’s giant stride through monumental development that has never been witnessed in any part of Nigeria if elected.

He said: “Pa Fasoranti and Prof. Akintoye have spoken well, and YCE aligns with the two elders statements, believe and support.

“In the Second Republic, history wanted to repeat itself before Alhaji Wasiri Ibrahim pulled out of NPP that Alhaji Wasiri formed when he realised that it has been hijacked.

“Wasiri Ibrahim formed another party immediately to rescue those Nigerians that are progressives and saw reasons with him from the bondage and domination.”

Akindele maintained that leadership qualities which Tinubu has been exhibiting since 1999 cannot be overpraised, saying Tinubu’s legacy speaks volume in terms of human development by bringing people from bottom to the peak of their lives, picking talents from different ethnicities.

He said the APC candidate is capable, competent, efficient and effective to deliver infrastructure development and economy revitalisation if elected.

He added that Yoruba nation cannot be misled again in 2023 because Nigerians need a leader like Tinubu who can lead the nation to the promised land.

Lol.

All these too much talks are not necessary. Infact, with due respect to the group and all respect in the world that can be accord to anyone or group as that of an esteemed and prestigious group as the Yoruba council of elders forum . I regard this as just a normal attention seeking small small talks. It is just like over-stretching a not too serious matter, something clear and loud even to the blind and deaf.

Lets tell ourselves the truth. We all know a yoruba or hausa person will never vote an Ipob sympathiser due to an open reasons we all are aware of. It is not a secret anymore. And a presidential candidate can never win without votes from either Southwest or North. If he likes he can parade all the churches we have in africa, he can even swim in floods to invoke public sympathy. We all know it is more like filling a basket with water.

So why dont we just leave this talk of one section of yoruba endorse this. One section endorse that. Let's get serious moving forward and know the contest is between Tinubu and Atiku.

We shouldnt allow a joker of a candidate, and bunch of clowns as supporters try causing political distraction . it is getting tiring and boring, let's get serious now. The jokes should be over now, its less than 100days to election angry

They want us to ignore this like zombies and instead vote a guy with no significant achievements, both in human development and physical development.

This is a tribal election.
Nigerians are largely going to vote along ethnic lines.
The average PVC remains a useless instrument for real change in the hands of an ignorant citizenry.
Not voting and I am not going to miss anything.
Can't be a part of the problems facing Nigeria.

Hmmm. Men, see ethnic bigotry at its zenith.
Are we not moving backwards in Nigeria?

Live and let live should have been it for a better Nigeria.

But elders knew that Obasanjo had to rule between 1999-2007 because we put zoning of the presidency into consideration.
Three legs - Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa-Fulani, founded Nigeria.
When elders want to distort realities of Nigeria, what do we expect the younger people to be like?

Why is this man looking for endorsement everywhere, you don't want to talk to the people but with bribed groups of people to endorse you, since they debunked his fake Afenifere support, he now claims YCE are supporting him....

Such a crooked man will not be our president - God forbid

The irony of it is that some of these people will lose elections in their polling booths.

Every candidate should strive to 'shop' for endorsement wherever available, it's a part of the game.

At the end, may the best candidate wins.
