Hi Joedave,
Is CBSA Note as detailed as GCMS and could it also help with review or revisit of one's application just like GCMS notes?
Any other person can assist with the question.
Joedave25:
@Anon123,

On the contrary,

Those living in Nigeria currently can apply either CBSA of GCMS Notes through...www.thegcmsonline.com and pay with their Naira debit card.

I applied both through their site in August and September for GCMS and CBSA respectively and got the notes though CBSA was faster.(34days while GCMS took over 60days)

I hope this helps.

@ Mamaoseme33,

1.) Eligibility...... your choice of program should align with either your previous degree/academic background (for those who are fresh from school OR your work experience (if you have worked for eg.5 years and above.

2.) Family an Economic ties.......your ability to convince the VOs that you are coming back to 9ja after study given your family ties (Parents/immediate family/siblings), Assets (Landed properties/building), professional ties and associations and good job/ business you will resume after study.Your SOP has to be convincing enough at this point.

3.) Relevance of your program to your medium and long term career. Etc

I hope this helps.

Wishing u nothing but the best

Hello guys....@johnstan do you guys know anything about building family tree in the SOP? How do I go about it please? Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by building Fam tree on your SOP.
Do you mean describing your fam members and relevant details about them?
If yes then it's not difficult, simply mention them starting with parents first then siblings according to seniority.
Mention, their relationship status (married or single), their academic qualifications (if they are graduates or not), their job functions, if they are dependants i.e. still minors.
You only need to state the relevant information about them. You could also Google how to describe family members in an sop and pick from different sources.

Good luck

@amaka4obiiie,

It's not a difficult one........Parents up followed by children(where you belong)followed by grand children (if any) each standing directly under the children.

Use goggle.

I hope this helps.

Good day to us All.
Below is my timeline.

First time applicant.
Crandall University. 20-month program.

Upfront Medical for all family members (IOM, Ikeja Lagos): 19 July 2022
The following additional tests were conducted because spouse has a history of TB.
• Sputum Production for Principal Applicant
• Chest X-Ray for the older kid (because she was presumed to have had contact with my spouse while she was treating TB.
• Sputum Production for Spouse
• Additional X-ray for Spouse.
• Medical Examination on Spouse by a TB Specialist recommended by IOM (we paid a consultation fee).

Application Date: 6 October 2022.
Biometric: 14 October 2022.
Medical Report updated for the 3-year old kid on 4 November 2022.
Medical Report updated for Principal Applicant, Spouse and the older kid: 18 November 2022.
BVL (for me and my spouse) and PPR for all 4 Applicants: 18 November 2022.

DOCUMENTS UPLOADED (other than IMM forms)
For the various sections where we are required to upload documents on the IRCC portal (e.g. LOA, Marriage License), I started with an Introduction, followed by Table of Contents.
The Table of Contents have hyperlinks to the respective documents attached. I also included hyperlinks to take the VO from the attached documents back to the Table of Contents.

Please note, some of the documents I attached are unnecessary e.g. COVID-19 vaccination card.

LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE
• Letter of Acceptance.
• IELTS result.
• Academic and Professional certificates.
• Academic Transcript.
• WES evaluation report.
• NYSC certificate.
• Evidence of Previous investments which had been liquidated (Education Plan for me and the kids, Shares that have been sold, Monthly Savings Plan with an Insurance Company, Investments with some Investment Firms). I stated that the proceeds were invested in other ventures and form a bedrock of funds being used for my studies in Canada.

PASSPORT
• Bio-data page of International Passport
• Affidavit (in lieu of birth certificate)
• Drivers' license.
• NIN slip.
• Updated CV (Nigerian style).
• Staff ID Card.
• Letter of Introduction from my employer.
• Study leave approval from my employer.
• Introduction letter from my local Church.
• Letter of Ordination from my Church.

MARRIAGE LICENSE/CERTIFICATE
• Marriage Certificates (Church and Court).
• Name change publication for spouse.
• Birth certificates for the kids.
• Over 50 pictures (during courtship, during wedding, during the christening of our kids, pictures with spouse at a volunteering event, family photographs). I cropped the pictures and put an average of 3 pictures on each page. Also, I sequenced the pictures such that they tell our family story from inception.

CLIENT INFORMATION
Here, I included a background that the property owned by my spouse would be included under her application for OWP. Then, included a Table of contents and attached the following documents, which could not be added in other sections due to file size constraint.
• Land Documents (Receipts, Sales Contract, Deed of Assignment, Survey, Advert showing an increase in the price of the land)
• Documents for 2 cars.
• Mum's International passport. (I showed her visa page and some travel stamps, since me I no get travel history).
• Affidavit/Birth certificates for some of my siblings.
• CSCS Statements for Stock/shares inherited from my late dad who died over 20 years ago. (The shares are still in my dad’s name. I explained that my family intends to obtain a Letter of Administration and these shares will be captured therein).
• My picture with my CEO and an EXCO member at an official outing.
• Training Certificates.

PROOF OF MEANS OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT
• SOP (9 pages). I tried to reduce it but my story long.
• Documents relating to the Payment of 50% initial deposit ($17,900 CAD).
• Documents relating to my current employment (employment letter, confirmation, promotion and 4 months’ Pay slips).
• Evidence of Available/Dedicated Fund:

I provided Explanatory Notes on 3 bank accounts.
1. My salary account (where I deposited our naira POF)
2. My USD account (where we deposited our dollar POF)
3. My spouse’s salary account (Here, I just stated that this is her salary account).

Under each of the account, I explained salient points such as lump sums that I wanted the VO to be aware of and included relevant support documents e.g. bonus letter from my employer.
For my naira account and my wife’s salary account, I provided bank statements for exactly 4 months but for the USD account, I provided statement for 1 year because it was just a 2-page document and I wanted to convince the VO that the account was legit even though I had only a few transactions on it.

Asides these, I included an addendum account which belongs to my spouse.
We created and liquidated several Fixed Deposit investments in that account and sizable part of our POF came from this addendum account.
Asides the bank Reference letter, I also included the account statement because I felt it would better convince the VO. The account had a rather unusually high transaction volume in 4 months and a balance of just N500k.
I carefully explained the meaning of some terminologies used on the account statement too e.g. FD booking.

• Letter of Introduction from my Pension Fund Administrator.
• Investment Certificate and account statement from an investment company for an existing investment (the letter clearly states that my wife and I have an unrestricted access to the funds).
• Deed of Partition and evidence of rental income on the property inherited from my late date

I included several hyperlinks on my SOP, my wife’s SOP and the cover letters for the kids. For instance, where I mentioned key words such as “Institute of Chartered Accountants”, Pension Reforms Act, 2014 etc., I ensured that they were modified to be hyperlinks, which would take the VO to the respective websites. I did this so it is easy for the VO for confirm the various terminologies/claims/entities independently.

My spouse and I have no travel history. Therefore, I stated in my SOP that we have been saving consciously towards my studies overseas, so we denied ourselves several luxuries such as travelling on vacations.

Just to mention, asides the funds that were available in bank and investment accounts, I stated that I would be saving specific amount towards my masters program from my subsequent salaries and 13th month allowance.
And that in the period, my family will depend on my wife’s salary and the balance from my own salary (I had previously established the fact that my wife and I save and invest together. Moreover, all my salary and allowances go straight into her account based on my bank statement history).
Pls sir while uploading ur bank statements or ur sponsors bank statements, is it advisable to explain with short note of the lump sum made in the bank under the bank statement or u have to include the short note where other documents re being uploaded like sop, landed properties etc

I tap into this testimony!!!! I will be applying for the 3rd time this December. the first application was refused due to purpose of visit which I tackled and the second was refused due to assets and finance.

Please if I make the money in my account up to 5m for one person, will be okay. I already paid one year tuition and my elder brother who is a UK-based pharmacist is my sponsor.

NeedAdvice00:
Let me book space. I speak to my PPR

2 months later and God did it

Let me start by appreciating everybody here.

This is my 3rd application. Actually, I did not know today is my day of testimony or this application will be approved. I even started my master's in Nigeria already because I have lost every hope after 2 denials.

School: University of Canada West
Course: Master of Business Administration

Documents Submitted

1. admission letter
2. tuition receipt
4. my family picture
5. my picture in usa, uk, finland, and south africa
6. my passport and visa stamp pages
7. statment of purpose and letter of explanation detailing what has changed, which was written perfectly written by @Sopwriter
8. my father's company cac
9. his personal soa (both savings and current)
10. company 1 soa
11. company 2 soa
12. Introduction letter from one my father's company saying I have been working for the family business since I competed my bsc
13. my awards and certificates
14. my cv
15. my police cert

Let me add this, I did not submit my soa bcuz it is just school fee and upkeep allowance from my father that enters it so there is nothing hefty in my account so I was told not to submit it

I dedicate this approval to God almighty and my family. Appreciation also goes to @Sopwriter. This man really helped me with advices. He called me with his airtime and guided me from A to Z.

To other hopefuls, please don't give up because that last try may be where the testimony is. I started my master's in Nigeria already and today I am rejoicing

May other hopefuls testify.

The gurus can help with professional responses but based on my layman thinking, I did not alter or make any mark on my bank statements.

I created a Microsoft Word document, and that was where I listed the details (account name, bank, account type, currency) of all the bank statements that I was presenting.

Each of the bank statement was shown as a sub-header.
Under each sub-header, I used bullet points to explain all the relevant information such as explanation for lump sum.

I converted the MS Word document to pdf and merged it with other documents under Proof of Means of Financial Support.

Please, let me know if my explanation is unclear.

Your SOP is a summary of your application. You would typically have paragraphs explaining different things and POF should be one of those paragraphs

This is where you explain the source of funds with receipts where necessary i.e. if it's from property sales, salary build-up, business transactions if it's a business account etc, the available amount set aside, any lump sums with receipts to back it up (in cases of gift deeds etc)

Don't try to conserve space with that SOP cos it can make or break your application, however, be direct and straight to the point with your explanations. Remember to use a third party site like grammarly to check for wrong grammar and plagiarism.

Good luck

I tried to order the GCMS notes, but I could not pay with my naira card. I only heard about the GCMS notes in July anyway. By then, I had gotten admission to the UK and was already nursing that.
If I am being totally honest, from what I have seen in these chats, I don't think my SOP was compelling enough. It was barely 1 page long, but I just discovered on this group after I had applied that people had 8 pages long SOPs. I had not paid the tuition deposit, and my POF was not so bulky. It was about 10 million then in my mum's account. Also, I was applying for a bachelor's degree with a 10 years study gap, I explained though. The explanation sef no carry weight.

So, all in all, it wasn't my best foot forward. I don't want them to deny me the visa and have rejection on my records.

I don't know what more good can come out of the application anymore, that is why I am opting to withdraw it.

And you are right. No one is processing a visa from a year and half ago. It has definitely been abandoned.

johnstan:

The processing time for Canadian study permit is not for the faint hearted or for someone who is working tightly with time as it can take a toll on the individual's mental health.

Your application is over a year and i am surprised you did not order your GCMS notes or have you done that already? that would let you know if your application is still being processed or not instead of drawing conclusion if you know what i mean.

Asking for previous visa rejections usually is an information you provide at the point or application and not after application (it is important).
Again your application is roughly 19 months (76 weeks) as against the 12/13 weeks processing time on IRCCC and its almost/nearly impossible that it is still being processed. However, as I mentioned above you should order your notes to be certain.

The withdrawal of your application option is available once you login to your portal, its a one click option and the application withdrawal notification email will be sent to you once it is processed successfully.

Good morning @frankrobbn1,

I was refused the first time due to purpose of visit which I tackled then I was refused for this October for the second time due to assets and finance.

I applied to Crandall University for Master of Management (2yrs course), I paid one year tuition, had 2.4m in my personal account and my elder brother in the UK who is a pharmacist is my sponsor who paid the first year tuition and had around 40k pounds in his UK account and about 19m in his naira.

I'm about to reapply next month and I want to increase the money in the money to 5m through a gift deed from my immediate elder brother. I want also add my sponsor's landed property in Lagos & Abuja to my application. I used my 3 siblings in Nigeria, including mu nieces and nephews and my inheritance as hometies.

Please what will you advise?

Frankrobbn1:

I regret to hear that your visa application was refused by the Canadian immigration authorities. I can't conclude that the reason behind your refusal was as a result of the Mpower loan. However, the explanations you gave in support of how you intend to pay up this loan after studies in Canada matters alot to the processing officer. Any relevant job opportunities for you back home or are you depending on the Canadian job market to work and offset those bills?. On the other hand, what other sponsor did you declare in your application aside the Mpower? Did you include additional sponsor or the Mpower was your stand alone sponsor?

Provide answers to these questions, I'll be pleased to provide solutions to your failed application.

It will end in praise

Congratulations
I am interested in knowing how you solved the hometies.

Thanks.
Below is the highlight of what I wrote under home ties.

1. My current job in Nigeria.
I added that my employer has granted me a study leave for the 20-month duration of my Masters program in Canada.

2. My aging mother.
I have been a companion to my widowed mother and a father-figure to my siblings, since the demise of our father.

3. The property which I inherited from my late father, captured by a Deed of Partition.

4. Other assets inherited from my late dad that were not captured on the Deed of Partition.
I listed the assets and explained that my dad left a polygamous family, the assets have been distributed over the years in piecemeal due to the difficulty in gathering members of the large family. My family is in the process of procuring a Letter of Administration.
The Letter of Administration will formally document other assets distributed after the Deed of Partition was executed, including those specific assets allocated to me.

4. A piece of land purchased by my wife and I.
Although, the land is in my name, but I stated on the SOP that it is co-owned by my wife and I.

5. Our two (2) vehicles worth Nxx.
I explained that we do not intend to dispose the cars due to the continued rise in vehicle prices in Nigeria. We have sought the consent of my brother, Mr. ..., to maintain the cars while we are away in Canada.

6. My membership of professional bodies in Nigeria. (I deliberately left out foreign bodies here because I thought it won’t achieve my purpose of home ties.

7. Finally, my spiritual role as a Youth Pastor in my local church, and my commitment to charity works (I included the name of one of such organisations where I volunteer and included a hyperlink to its website).

Hope it makes sense.

Hello Frank,

I am still trying to navigate my way around this platform.

I am replying a message that is not mine because I do not know how else to reach you.

I have a 18 months pending student visa. It occurred because my agent recalled my fees twice till I paid myself in December last year.

I have not heard back from IRCC and I am applying for my UK visa in December because I already paid tuition.

Do you think I should withdraw my application? Will the UK ask me about it? Or should I leave it pending knowing that nobody is attending to it.

I look forward to your response.

A huge congratulations @Dayo96. You are man with the oil of grace upon his head.

Please can you share how much you have in your proof of fund? This will be very helpful for someone.

Dayo96:
Good day to us All.
Below is my timeline.

First time applicant.
Crandall University. 20-month program.
GCKey portal.
I applied for Study Permit for myself (Principal Applicant), Open Work Permit for my spouse, Visitor Visa for my 3-year old kid, and Study Permit for my kid who would turn 5 in November 2022.

Good day everyone. Thanks for all y'all do
I have read many times people say getting admission is easy et all. But I applied once to Durham College but somehow my application was closed.

Now, I'll like to apply to a uni...I graduated with a 3.56. I have narrowed my search to sch such as uni of Manitoba, Ottawa, etc cos I intend using mpower loan. Is this advisable? I don't want to waste money on application fee. I need advise.

Thank you.

How long ago did you finish from university? Durham doesn’t accept study gap of over 5 years.

Prosperkossy:

Pls sir while uploading ur bank statements or ur sponsors bank statements, is it advisable to explain with short note of the lump sum made in the bank under the bank statement or u have to include the short note where other documents re being uploaded like sop, landed properties etc

It is best to explain it just before the bank statements within the same document. I don't think anyone would be going back and forth between your SOP and POF documents to read about lump sums. This is a sample I used in my case.

This account shows an inflow of xyz which was first deposited in my xyz account then sent to my xyz account and the rest from a contract
job I was paid for via Transferwise, into my xyz account. I then forwarded these funds to my xyz account which I then used to pay my school fees deposit. The last inflow of xyz is remaining June Salary from xyz.

You can also use a table to explain. I’ve attached a sample
