Yeah...Huge.

Avatar (2009) was a big deal and made big bucks because of the magnificent CGI that seemed ahead of it's time back then. Tho not the first 3D movie, but it brought an immersive cinematic experience with 3D and James Cameron is such a big deal in filmmaking, his last flick before "Avatar" was the hugely successful "Titanic" so people wanted to see his next movie.

Fast forward to 2022
-Movie tech, VFX and CGI has come a long way so I don't think anything "groundbreaking" will be in Avatar: The way of the water to push it above $1Bn at the BO.

-The plot of the first one wasn't all that, and there's not enough story in it to warrant this sequel or the other sequels planned, so clearly most people ain't seeing this for any coherent plot.

-The most telling factor that is seriously against it making huge bucks is simply put that the "cinema culture is a dying breed". COVID 19 lockdown changed the game. After then, movies struggle to even cross $500m let alone $1bn. wokist and political agendas are on one side.

I might be wrong but I don't see anything yet in God's green earth that will make this movie gross $2bn.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that feels this way. I can bet money that avatar is not going to make up to a billion. I feel it’s just going to be a bit above 500 million.

LMFAO.... Based on what I've seen Avatar 2 is easily smashing past $1bn irrespective of the present state of the cinema business.
It looks like what audiences have been saving up for. Big budget splurge fest. It's also sitting on a juicy holiday window.

It won't get 2bn but a billion is very doable.

Way of the water alongside its 3 sequel were shot back to back with a budget of around $1b. So they may need up to that when marketing has been factored in.

I don't think 3 sequels was shot back to back. I think it's two. The performance of Avatar 2 &3 will determine if 4&5 gets made. I may be wrong tho.

Interesting....
Wonder why I smell bullshít tho. undecided undecided

I was about to say how almost impossible authorities would approve this deal if it were to go through. But on second thought, they aren't in the same business, so lesser restrictions.

Anyways, this would easily break $100bn. Possibly $150bn worth or more.

Mindhunter S1&2 (2020) = 7.6/10 ✔️

The Forgotten Battle (2020) = 7/10 ✔️

Black Adam (2022) = 6/10

Modified: You're right Nickshrapnel. Cameron did shoot 3 films back to back. They shot some part of Avatar 4 already to keep the kids from aging.

Werewolf by Night is premium midri.
It wasn't great. It wasn't bad. But it surely was MID.

Explain your stance on it being mid?

Bad plot, jarring pacing, terrible acting ?

Speculative... You're right in smelling BS...

Apple loves high profit margins and makes them, Disney on the other hand while pulling in incredible revenue has a low profit margin...

"Best Picture" and "Best Actor" are a bit of a stretch imo but then again, so many bum movies out in the last one year that i can't even out the top of my head name a clear best picture material.

How to protect your franchise before it gets chopped screwed and completely fked over like the terminator sequels

On the other hand there is now a massive risk that some fkers will find and Leak the movie

Fox were committed to making all 5 before Disney got them...

Disney on the other hand will only green lit 4 & 5 if 2 and 3 perform well...

Shooting Ocean movies are incredibly expensive, so the production budget includes Sets, costumes and designs that will be re-used...
