Sofyan Amrabat has really used this WC to remind most fans of his quality as why he is indeed one of the best Ball-playing, press-resistant and hardworking CDMs from the continent of Africa.

Top player.

Lukaku has single-handedly sent out Belgium at least today. Missing chances like it's going out of fashion.

Funny but true Story.

I predicted 1-1 draw for Croatia vs Belgium

And a 2-1 win for Morocco vs Canada.

Yeah, I kinda felt Morocco will concede today but still do enough to bag the win.

I dropped both predictions by Opta Analyst.

Score predictions aren't my forte but looks like I hit one exactly right. wink

Obviously Lukaku wasn't fit and sharp enough. He really messed them up big time, he would have nightmares for a long time coming.

Congrats to Maroc. With their country rapidly developing and investing in footballing infrastructure, I can see them being amongst the world's best within a decade

National team football is more of individual brilliance and grit than tactics. Canada almost equalized but lack that individual brilliance! Brilliance of Kudus is what is helping Ghana.
TheSuperNerd:
He was brought in as an assistant in the midst of other assistants. How was he going to do everything he needed in just 2 games? Eguavoen was the one in charge. No Amunike.

There is a big difference between Amunike teams and Eguavoen teams.

Morocco's Walid reminds me of Amunike. They share some similarity in philosophy.

Happy for Morocco, the Colonial rulers of the Western Africa Sahara desert (awon ole). But still an African country and am happy. Would this be a repeat of the 1986 WC 2nd round aganst Germany where the latter won through pure luck. We will know in a couple of hours.

That said, if there is any African team that can beat Spain or Germany, look no further than Morocco, if everything goes their way, they can surely do it.

No. Individual brilliance, grits and Moments of instinctual brilliance are much better appreciated when witnessed and executed on the foundation of Tactics.

Tactics is the foundation. It is not everything and cannot determine the 100% outcome of a game but it helps to give a team direction and purpose.

In a little under 2 hours time, Stephanie Frappart will make history as the first woman to officiate a men’s WC game, as she will be in the center in the Costa Rica v Germany game..

Morocco are easily Africa's finest side at this WC. They have shown it in their plays, their tactical nous from the bench and it has reflected on the scoreboard as well.

All hail the Atlas Lions.

Walid Regragui was just coaching his 6th game today as Morocco's coach.

Won the CAF CL with Wydad and then made Morocco coach while Vahid was booted out.

His playing style and central coaching philosophy bears some semblance to Emmanuel Amunike's philosophy. Noticed it strongly from the first game but wanted the group stage done before I drop this observation.

Morocco looked inwards for their coaching issues and truly have a plan for their NT. We should do the same especially as we have one schooled in the modern tactical ways. Get him on and stop running on mediocre foreign coach vibes backed by clueless dollopheads.

100% agreed, truth is we can't afford a top class coach so instead of getting a mediocre foreigner, let us get one of ours. Truth is, no foreigner worth his salt will be content being owed salary arrears. Another key thing is to learn from Senegal, we must be patient with whichever local coach we hire. I also vote for Amuneke at this point, what's the worst that can happen? E don dey happen already anyways.

We are missing the Partey type player in our midfield. Ndidi and Iwobi better than Samad and Kudus respectively. I think Onyedika or Nwakali should be tried in that role instead of Etebo/Aribo.
I will pick Iwobi ahead of Kudus in every midfield department, be it DM, CM or AM.

Absolutely. Forget the current reality of SE. Poland were struggling with basic ball control and passing yesternight. Hard, but one has to admit it. They were compact in defending in 1st half sha.
Poland was struggling because Argentina made them struggle. Argentina made over 800 passes with over 70 percent control of the game. Poland couldn't even register a shot on target. The Argentina of yesterday fought like a wounded lion. Don't compare Poland to the super eagles. They for collect pass 2-0

You are funny. So England is better than Italy because Italy did not qualify for the world cup. Our greatness as a footballing nation does not end because we didn't qualify for the world cup. We remain a footballing nation and at least in Africa we are giants.
Yes we are better than or at least equal with the Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt etcnof this world.
Atleast Italy won the euros. What did the super eagles do great recently?

I don't think it's a big ask that we should stop referencing the super eagles everytime makes a comment about teams in the world cup. yes this is the super eagles thread but I feel we can enjoy this world cup on this thread without taking shots at the team with comments like" if we were good as this team why did we not qualify".
Exactly. You don't have to be comparing the super eagles to teams that even qualified for world cup and advanced to round of 16. Like??

Na only Eguavoen can explain what went bad for him in the space of 6games, beating all 3teams(including Afcon finalist) in a group and accumulating 100% point only to go and jonez in the round 16... successfully holding Ghana at the intimidating baba Yara slaughter zone, only for you to come and screw up in Abuja... Super eagle's Afcon group stage performance, first leg doggedness at baba Yara, and 20mins towards the end of Abuja clash showed me that we would have held our own against top teams if qualified
Mediocrity will give limited lucky success but quality will give you consistency and continued success.
