Everyone is free to wear what they like. The head covering conveys a message that women need to cover their hair for the sake of men. Most religions are misogynistic anyway.

Did the Portuguese bring Christianity?

Why aren't there far more catholics in the Niger Delta then? I think they set up churches there but probably had negligible converts.

I doubt their purpose was to proselytize. They might have set it up for the sake of Portuguese sailors and probably other Europeans as a place of worship.

Also, few natives would want nothing to do with a religion closely linked to disturbing cruelty. It would be hypocritical asking people to worship a God of love whose worshippers dehumanized people and loved material gain.

False christianity has rubbish God's name for centuries and it still does.

Other Christian missionaries also came but I was trying to say the first missionaries to preach about Christianity in Nigeria was the Portuguese
The British didn’t Care that much about religious reformation in Nigeria
The Scottish missionaries also came (the Presbyterian church) while the Portuguese brought the Catholic Church
The British was just here to rule us and exploitation.

But why is this hijab a thing of concern?
If they want to enforce hijab, invariably no need for uniform because other religion can put on what they like.

This is one of the reason I don't support the Muslim Muslim ticket.

Imagine what will happen in Nigeria eventually he wins ( which will never happen).

They're not forcing you or any other christian to wear hijabs. It remains an option for those who choose to wear it for their religious convictions. Why would you want to deny people their rights to practice their faith? It doesn't infringe upon anyone else's rights.

But then again Nigerian christians are the most hypocritical bunch of noisemakers ever.

This thing is wrong. Each school should have a specific uniform and dress code which all students should adhere to. So that if you don't like the uniform, you go to other schools you like. If they continue this way, other religious bodies will bring up their own dress codes too. You know Nigerians too like wahalla. I remember after the Law school hijab case, a lawyer dressed like a babalawo with wig and entered court. The security stopped him and he called the attention of the presiding Judge and he was allowed into the court like that bc he cited the law school hijab case.

Because some people will not read before they start commenting.

I like it when the rules of the courts are enforced, even though the judgement was given in July 2022, still not bad.

The freedom of religion as enshrined and guaranteed by our constitution cannot be compromised.

So far there is not compulsory in it….ALL GOOD

Let other religion cover their head with scarf too. No need of too much noise.
We're lagosians and there is no religious rift between our families.

If who wins? Tinubu's children are christians or you don't know? The court judgement was to help society better by giving children choice to cover their HEADs which some christains parents are regretting they failed to enforce on their children who now walk half-naked in the streets like escaped lunatics.

has anyone stopped Muslim from taking their own rosary? Hijab is a distortion of school uniform. It's like saying Cele can now start wearing white bonnets to school. Or Catholics can wear nun hijab. Then assembly ground will look scattered which is the whole point of a uniform

Since 1999 when Bola Tinubu became governor of Lagos State, Islam has multiplied in the SW region of Nigeria; such that today, as women elsewhere go to, or aspire to go to the moon, the debate in the SW region of Nigeria is on covering women with face rags or body bags before the public. It's pathetic.

My own concern is - "Why the particular emphasis on hijab when they could just scrap uniforms all together?"

Uniforms should be worn as a form of discipline

Even with uniforms, you see these girls wearing tight fitting skirts to make their butts more pronounced

I wonder what will happen if they are given the freedom to wear what they want?

why is it of concern to you? I am a christian, did they say Christians must wear Hijab? Did they say all Muslims must wear Hijab? Did they say wearing hijab means no school uniform?

Please fellow christians stop embarrasing the rest of us up and down. Even the british that brought this christianity to us, in the UK they wear Hijab in schools, their muslim policewomen wear Hijabs, the SIkh policemen wear their turban. You are portraying us christians as people without brains with all this nonsense!!!

Please do not bring your religious intolerance to yoruba land. We have always coexisted peacefully between Muslims and Christians.
No p
We too will encourage our children to start going to school with church uniforms, traditionalist should start wearing their Ifa clothes etc
So it’s fine no p

what about dibia people that want to wear their own attire? what about atheist that want to wear their own attire when if they desire? Or jewish, or Catholics.

There is a reason it is called uniform, every wear is homogeneous.

But Muslims have conventional Islamic schools right? This isn’t enough, they need to show some strength in contemporary educational centers to be taken serious, no?

supreme Court has given judgment on the matter and it has to be followed... Besides from the report written you can see clearly it said if anyone wishes to use the hijab and I believe schools ll ensure students wear hijab that matches each school uniform...

If you just and fair the hijab will be worn by Muslims student if they wish not by force, but Nigerian christians are looking for trouble always tend to harass Muslims not to do their religion as it is. I know even bible ask christians women to cover their body like the way Muslims are doing but they choose to disobey bible and they want Muslims to follow their steps by force by fire by disobeying Qur'an. If you people truly like justice then let Muslims alone to do their religion as it is not as the way you want.
