It's not so simple, even though I would agree it contributes. Do you realize that the French and Belgian national teams are a lot more competitive for players eligible to play for an African country(i am looking at players who can identify a foreign ancestor at most 2 or 3 generations into the past)? Compare the French and the English national teams, counting the number of players eligible to play for an African country. The French squad has a lot more of those players. As in over 65% compared to less than 20% for England. This means you would have a lot more good-quality players unable to get into the French squad. These players can then try to play for those African countries they are eligible to play for. Infact I think those countries in the francophone bloc should take advantage of this opportunity. They should be dominating the AFN and World cup places. Of course there are other factors too, including the fact that our footballing system beyond the youth system is shit. But you can get away with it if graduates of our youth systems go out there and develop into consistently decent players. Then there's the coaching problem. The pool of coaches we have access to is of low quality, so you would be lucky to get a good coach. It's the reason why i think NFF should institute a training system for local coaches to raise the average quality of the pool(I mean if the local coaches are mostly all decent, you better be a good foreign coach to be hired). At the moment i think we have a decent pool of quality players. Our coaches including the current one are just clueless. And it pains me to say this cos, the coach has a decent resume, alas some success in club football doesn't always translate to national team football. I hope he changes my mind. BTW: I am looking forward to seeing what Morocco does at the next AFCON. zuchyblink: |

semid4lyfe:If they sack Southgate, getting a replacement for him would be a dicey situation for them... Out of sentiments, they may want to appoint another English manager where as they know too well that there's barely any competent one around .Maybe they can lure Graham Potter..Of maybe Scott Parker.... But they are all average.. |

Danielnino00:In my own mind, Southgate has done well in this WC. I mean they lost to the reigning world champions and for anyone who watched d game, the results could easily have swung in any direction. What I am reading on BBC is that popular opinion amongst established analysts and their football greats, Shearer, Lineker believe he should continue. They have a very young team, a number of the guys that played against France should be available for the next WC. I expect players like Foden, Saka, Bellingham, Rice, Grealish, Mount, TAA, Phillips, Maddison, Rashford to have matured a lot in their game. So I believe Southgate shouldn't be sacked yet. |

elyte89:A problem the Brits have is that they hype their capability and capacity and there is definitely an unrealistic expectation gap on their national team. They are not as good as they think they are. Before Southgate came in, it has been a while for the 3 lions to get into a WC QF or even Euro semis, Southgate has achieved that. Even when they had Beckham, Owen, Mcmanaman, Scholes (though different times) they didn't achieve anything of note, highest na QF exit for WC and best Euros was Semi finals appearance in the 90s. |

Danielnino00:You changed the narrative to suit your self created assumptions birthed from a prejudiced and ignorant mind. I will renind you of the question, and my core response. Taking cognisance of the TIME frame. Dominic committed to Nigeria at 21 before his projected 23. Rohr visited him personally and promised a call up he was in Championship with Sheffield Wednesday then. Facts: Dominic Iorfa father contested a corruption ridden rancourous NFF Presidency. No love lost between him and the eventual winner. Rohr visited Dominic Iorfa jnr in Early 2017 ,it was made clear , that at the end of England U21 summer tournament he will commit to Nigeria, Rohr made a public commitment to invite him in 2017. Dominic committed to Nigeria after finishing his time with England 21 At that TIME. Dominic Iorfa was voted the club's Young Player of the Season in 2015 as a teenager. Had even been invited to train with England first team. At this stage he was benching Matt Docherty . He had to keep his commitment to Nigeria under the radar, to avoid contention with England and club. You are fast forwarding matters out of the time frame. Matters must be restricted to the time Frame that is the CONTEXT. Even his issues with Wolves came after his commitment to Nigeria and departure from England U21. |

When it comes to Kelechi Nwakali, Victor Osimhen, Sadiq Umar and more, Everything said about them in their downtimes is FACTS. But when it comes to Dominic Iorfa, Fred Onyedimma, Sheyi Ojo, Ovie Ejaria and co... Everything about them becomes, "LOOK AT THE CONTEXT. There are factors responsible... bla bla bla" Hypocrisy and double standards of the first order. ![]()

Ask them to list the achievements that makes Finidi a better choice than Amunike. Ask them to also explain Finidi's playing philosophy and Amunike's and how his philosophy (if they know it) can help transform the Super Eagles plays. This is where they will struggle for words. TheGoodJoe: |

semid4lyfe:maybe they are looking at his record. Tbh I think he is the coach with the best record since 1966. One wc semi final, one wc quarter finals and a euro final. I'm not sure there is any other manager with such records. his style may not be pleasing to the eyes but note that he has achieved more than the coach that handled the golden generation. |

komekn:Nathan Tella declared his interest to play for Nigeria... nobody went to meet him, or snap pictures with him.. If the "good" foreign born players want to play for Nigeria all they have to do is say they want to play for Nigeria and the NFF should be quick to cap tie them.... the main problem is favoritism and favoring players they know which makes sure the SE formation does not change and why the SE consistently has a small number of midfielders invited... payment for selection is not a problem for foreign born players.. foreign born players are richer than their Nigerian counterparts and if there's anything like payment for selection then that means the entire SE should have at least 20 foreign born players.. the other problem is the Nigerian coaches might call up and favor players that are in their Agency or affiliated with their agency.. |

codemaniacs:I think this attitude of not appreciating our need for midfielders has to change. Is it that the midfielders don't come from the agency of the coach. Look I think we are our greatest enemy. Our officials are too short sighted. If the world cup was held in 1996 we might have reached the final but within two years the team deteriorated. Also we held Brazil to a draw in 2019 but within three years the team deteriorated again. I suspect these nff officials constantly okay favouritism and politics. Again the way we don't like midfielders sounds demonic. Is it that someone does not like alhassan Yusuf, ovie ejaria etc. Maybe they don't belong to their agency. Our officials are too myopic. Winning the nation's cup and getting to the semi finals of the world cup will generate money for them to steal. There is a way you can steal money and still engineer development. You just don't steal like a mad man without any vision for development |

Blueelf:Oga Blueelf,Nigerians who watched Ivory Coast afcon 84 and Maroc 88 will always rate Rufai. Peter Rufai of Afcon and US 94 was average compared to Rufai of 80s.Rufai came out when Africa produced the best GKs like Badou Zaki,Thomas Nkono,Antoinne Bell,Shoubeir and Jaques Songo, though i rate Enyeama better but Rufai was a class and i will never forget his heroic performance against Egypt during penalties shoot out @afcon84. |

TheSuperNerd:What has Amuneke won with his philosophy? We have been winning under 17 since 1985, so what's the big deal in that? What has he won at Club and National team level? The Morrocan coach builds his team on defensive discipline and has won medals at club level. What has Amuneke done? Don't tell me a bullcrap philosophy without results here? He qualified Tanzania to the Nations Cup, yes. Did Tanzania even went past the group stage? Let Amuneke show us what he has won in his career? He flopped with one of the best under 20 team, losing to Sudan in Lagos! What are you talking about? |

Please don't come to my mention asking me silly questions or making your usual poorly informed takes. Just explain Finidi's Playing Philosophy and show how it would uplift the Super Eagles. And also kindly tell us what he has achieved. Amunike's achievements are well known from the Nigerian U17s to Tanzania to FIFA technical study jobs and now to Zanaco. Show us Finidi's. fabyom: |

Amunike was a key part of the technical crews for 2 different generations of U17 teams that brought Glory to the country and also went on to produce players for the Senior national team, forming the core of the current team. Spain just appointed a coach who worked with most Spanish lads at U19, U21 levels and he is also schooled in his own philosophy of the game. But more than anything, they obviously gave the job to a man who knows the lads. We have similar scenario in Amunike, yet some Beer Parlour owner analyst (make I borrow Blueelf's words) is telling me Amunike lost to Sudan as if one loss in 50 games dampens the man's technical nous from the sidelines. Played close to 50games, winning over 40 and losing just once thanks to your Bloody NFF and that is what erases his quality. Just look at the rubbish take. No substance at all. Mtchewww. |
