We're in the season. Slumping to death is the major way Nairalanders die. Many come here to threaten suicide. In the end, bathroom slips and falls dislodge their spirits from the earthly realm.

Nothing concern me again. Nigerians are idiots.

bank be acting heartless asf. Not even to temporarily close down or declare a day of mourning for a fellow colleague. Nope there just keep working like zombies
Close down ke? do you know the number of lawsuits that may be arise if they dont perform obligations set for that day? The bank can find other means to immortalize and help the family of the deceased but closing the bank wont change a thing.

This is not the issue of Bank job. Right now, Nigerians are stressed up due to the calamitous state of the economy brought about by successive regimes. This rudderless administration of mohammadu Buhari was the last nail in the coffin, cost of living is astronomical high, and this is having a toll on Nigerians, stress kills faster than any other ailments.

Bank!!

Organisations world wide are beginning to take the 3Ps approach
Profit, planet and people

As much as the primary purpose of organisations is to make profit, they must invest in the people working for them and the planet/environment to make it a better place. It is no more about profit alone.

Unfortunately, working in Nigeria is like working in hell and working in banks is even worse. These basstrds declare so much profit but their staff live like slaves. The problem is we dont have a government that can put these people in their place to stop modern day slave labor.
Access bank, gtbank etc are even worse.

Now report says no trace of violence.
What of the emotional abuse, psychological abuse, inhuman working conditions they put their staff through.

These useless banks will employ a 24 year old graduate who has no health problem, after 6 years he becomes 30 with high blood pressure, back ache problem, bad eyesight and he begins to show signs of anger, depression and disorientation. He will be looking 45 because he has worked day and night, with no career growth, no salary increase nor promotion.

If you want to know that devil lives on earth and earth is the hell itself, go and work as a contract staff in the bank.

The bank will choke u and u will rarely have time to achieve any other thing.
One thing I can say is for you to set a plan and timeline to exit... you will need to ensure u follow that timeline otherwise, another year will come and go and you will still be stuck serving those slave masters.
I wish you all the best in your journey to freedom

The time he died I was still on my bed contemplating whether to wake up or not. Imagine already at work by 6:30am. He would have probably closed by 7pm then stay in hold up till 9pm to get home by 10pm. Sleep till 4am and the circle continues

Similar thing happened to the son of a church member. I couldn't wrap my head around it. Dude was to be 30 years old on a Wednesday, and he died just two days to that (Monday). He complained of feeling unwell while in a car with his superior. They headed to the hospital, by the time they got there he was unconscious and later declared dead. Pops was called, drove to lag to pick the boy's body and buried him and returned to Ibadan. Only son/child! The thing shock me. Two days later , his fb page is filled with HBD messages, most of his online friends don't know he is gone, till now. My guess, is prolly a heart attack...what is worrisome is the sheer number of young men and women just slumping and dying in recent times. It is well.
Covid 19 vaccine is responsible for the recent surge in sudden death these days. Go to twitter and search died suddenly.

Forget law suits. If there is a fire outbreak there, customers will be directed to the nearest branch.
The way you Nigerians speak about law suits, one would think that there is so much justice and equity. Besides, first to court does not guarantee victory at the court.
They can close down for the day to honor him if they want to and heaven will not fall but banking is ALL about the organization and top management and less about the foot soldiers.

My brother God bless you. In March firstbank employed me as sales executive with 85k salary and in September sales executive salary was reduced to 59k!! In October I resigned!!

God help us. Tell me what 59k can buy in this present economy. The wickedness in Nigeria banking system is mind boggling

Our Government are not checkmating this Banks, can you imagine all banks will employ outsource staff and pay them peanuts, highest 75k in a month. while their core staffs will receive 200k plus monthly with upfront in January, bonus in March/April with Education allowance in August. And this outsource staffs are also graduate oh... haba! The gap is too much. we don't Legislators that will fight this injustice. God Punish who introduce Contract work in Nigeria. MODERN DAY SLAVERY..............

Even God knows that I detest anything 'contract staff'. Some people sitting somewhere will be taking part of my monthly pay while I work my ass out for the company. Na thunder go strike them all.

No matter your busy schedule, always make out time to go for Medical checkup at least once in Two months. Check your bp, sugar level, pulse, and many others. Work out base on what your medical report says, no matter how little. I've seen 23 years old people slump and die, but in this part of the world, we don't take health seriously, until someone totally breaks down.

If others haven’t sent anything, you’ll see something in the account by Tuesday next week. Not in the country so the person i told to credit the account says he can’t do it till Tuesday because tomorrow and Monday is sit-at-home.

You need to understand 2 things.

1. Life goes on.

2. The chap that died is not royalty or a top politician.

The same you will be livid if you visit your bank/ try to use their services and they tell you they have temporarily shutdown because one of their staff died

"The news of Ebere’s death cast a gloom over the bank as his colleagues went about their daily routine with an expression of despondency."

It's not just banks , most companies in Nigeria work their employees to death or close.
And its more mental than financial.

Undetected high BP or heart disease. We Nigerians don't bother going for regular medical checkups, as long as nothing is wrong with us, we believe that we are fine.

I thank God for my Aunty, my mum's younger sister. After doing banking jobs for years she was able to raise money and relocate to US with her husband leave this Nigerian banking job.

Now she is always encouraging me to look for scholarship opportunities to study abroad like in Canada, etc. The only first text she texts me sef na this scholarship thing.

But me I don't think I want to study abroad though, and everyone keeps advising me and my siblings especially my elder brother to travel out japa but my bro didn't take the advise because he is even having clients from places like Canada, US with his full stack programming work already, big companies over there are signing contracts with him to do from here in Nigeria though a lot of my brother's colleague don japa finish but my bro remain put on his decision and he is also married too.

I remember when I finished youth service, at that time banking job was in vogue and I desperately wanted to be a banker.

I prayed and wrote aptitude tests, didn't pass any.

Finally had to settle for a 30k job in a one-man business.

Did that job for two years and got a good Federal government job with a very flexible schedule, which gave me peace of mind.

And because I had time, I was able to further my education and even do an online course that opened the door for a remote job.

Now, I have 2 good sources of income.

No stress.

I'm 100% sure that if I was working in a bank I wouldn't have had the time and energy to do an additional course and implement.

Sometimes when you're praying for something and God is not answering your prayer, it could be because He has something better for you.

And that thing will manifest in His time.

Blessings ❤️
