Actually, there are some good Nigerian YouTubers who are programmers. There is this PhD research guy who is really good.He is from the Niger Delta and has knowledge in a broad range of programming language. To be a YouTuber in programming lang,U must be really good, some pple ask some tough questions which U shud be able to answer.most YouTubers re from India, programming is really tough and it requires continuous learning, new stuff coming out daily,it takes lots of time to write complex code.i spent almost all my entire day coding ,trying to solve problems, siting down to do YouTube takes time and confidence. To build a Chanel requires consistentency.Have come across some Nigerians on skillshare ,udemy who are also good. Most Indians start programing at young age and have built a name for themselves in this area.Nigerians abroad are coming up.

Devdevdev:
You hardly see Nigerians teaching coding or talking about programming related stuff on on social media, especially on Youtube. This is because this is actually a legit way to be a successful person and it involves a lot of hard work, determination and consistence.

Nigerians only like to propagate get rich schemes and fraudulent stuff like plagiarizing books to post on Amazon or some rubbish Ponzi scheme. The common thread that links all these is that they don't involve much work and all you have to do is just do the little, then sit and wait for money to start pouring into your account. I admit there are a tiny minority of people who make money from these, but it's usually for a short period of time until it crashes or they get banned from Amazon, or get arrested, but the majority of people don't get shit, rather they jump from one get rich scheme to the other until they realize they've wasted their time.

Programming will never be saturated with competent programmers especially in this country because majority of people don't have the discipline and delligence to actually become competent programmers.

For the past month I've not been on social media. I deleted my Twitter, Facebook Tiktok, Instagram and vowed to never check status on WhatsApp because that's a very huge distraction. I only use Nairaland and Reddit, particularly for programming related information. I deleted every movie from my laptop and haven't watched TV for weeks.

How many people can do this? How many people can sit at a desk staring at a computer screen for 12+ hours everyday?

Nigerians are very lazy and are addicted to quick gratification and this works in the favor of programmers who are serious, because it reduces the competitiveness of the job market.

I don't agree. Lots of Nigerians make videos on YouTube and social media. Just type Amazon KDP or fake paypal or anything related to money. Videos choke. One Nigerian YouTuber even did a two hour video on how to plagiarize books and publish on Amazon.

You will almost never see Nigerians making videos on coding. I'm not even talking about long ass 6 hour videos on "Java for beginners" Just ordinary short videos on tech stack a beginner should learn, or how to do use a technology like axios or even ordinary vscode. You will never see this kind of video from Nigerians. All you see is skits, get rich quick schemes and showoff(money for guys, body for females)

The resources are there, there is just no market for it. Those articles you read aren't from social media are they? And even if so, they are particularly targeted to those already in the field as opposed to the general public.

Nigeria is a failed state, everybody are looking for quick money to meet their needs then subscribe data to start shouting APC PDP LP and which corrupt politicians are buying more PVCs. When Biafra is restored Biafran programmers will take over spaces.

I totally agree with you on this. I can't count how many times I've gone on YouTube to search for Nigerian programmers YouTube channel. I'm not talking about Nigerian programmers living abroad ohh. Even the little ones you get to see barely post anything related to programming, it's all about lifestyle and money...

I just want to calm down and learn my C++ and DSA well enough and do some competitive programming before I go into backend dev. I hope to be the William Lin of Naija grin that guy na my motivation and one of the reasons I fell in love with programming... I've set down at least 7 years to achieve these goals..

I suppose you are still a child who have enough time and still leaves with his mama, you are being fed and clothed, you don't worry about rent, that's why you can come here on nairaland to call Nigerians lazy, there are tons of programmers in Nigeria. I know this because I am a programmer too, but I don't judge people who cannot learn, I've tutored students on programming in the past and I tell you that there are so many factors that affect their learning curve, most of my students who do well are the ones with no responsibilities, undergraduate students and corpers

I don't expect you to understand, I think you are still a kid.

for your info, i feed my self too and pay my rent. and face many health challenges but that doesn't stop me from learning programming,..so cut that crap and stop saying what you don't know...

I never said nigerians are lazy, did i

i said they're unserious and too complacent including you angry,

that's why they cant compete with their counterparts in indians, it has nothing to do with paying rent, or you think programmers in india don't pay rent...

this is another problem with nigerians, not accepting criticism but instead looking for what to blame and is one thing holding them back... sad

No use your own judge others. For Nigerians the learning curve is steep, so many factors can ruin you. Nepa, no money how many people fit afford laptop. Nigerians even see programmers who stay at home and freelance as lazy people or Yahoo boys lol. So my sis, if e good for you thank your God and run your thing codedly. No need to loud am

What are you even talking about?
Actual coders are NOT typical content creators that'll sit down with cameras and be teaching. Also, don't forget that teaching is also an additional skill that the coder will still have to learn.

But trust me, millions of nigerians are coders, working legitimately, they just don't necessarily advertise it or teach it. E no easy to code, and definitely no be get-rich-quick.

you are right and wrong in some way, there are programmers in Nigeria but you hardly see them posting stuffs on social media because we don't value it here, those stuffs don't go viral like people that are into skit, I have a technology Chanel for more than 6 months after paid ads I was unable to get up to a thousand followers but when I switched to another niche boom, it rock. the bottom line is that people don't value programmers. personally I love teaching people the little I know but before you know it they'll be telling you that it's too complex or too boring.

Instead of changing your circle ,you decided to paint the whole of your fellow country men with the same large brush. I've been coding for a while, and I still have my active social media platform ready, truth is, the problem isn't them but you, and how did I know this, because you were able to change your situation by actually changing yourself ,that is, shutting our social media and focusing.

There are Nigerians teaching coding and doing exceptionally well in that space, the reason you can see them now was because you changed your focus. You can't be searching and following gossip blogs and expect to stumble upon coding training.

So once again, you are the problem.

Exactly many people can also claim their profession brings so much money that anyone not doing it is not serious with life.
Op this is mine. I know html css javascript and c programming. I program arduino microcontroller too.
I know how to use Adobe dreamweaver and WordPress. But guess what? I have never made a penny from all these knowledge. I am a solar installer and i am happy with it.

So do not force anyone to do anything. There are many broke full stack javascript programmers. There are many broke android app developers. Many broke coders. Infact chances are that the so called teacher you are looking for is even broke. Or will a rich person come to teach your kid coding at home when he can own a coding school like niit or aptech? And stop saying name your price around alimosho because i know you already have a bench mark of 20k in your heart.

Please this is 21st century. Don't annoy your kids. Someone must have also thought becoming a benz mechanic was the only road to success in the past.

Anyone here who wants to learn coding from beginners to advanced level. Just go on YouTube and type (brad traversy) follow his steps. Or go to w3school.com and follow the steps from html to whatever you want. Theres really no big deal.

After corruption and bad leadership, Nigerian parents are the next cause of Nigeria's problem today. They are all myopic, close-minded and very naive. Their thinking is stuck in the 1980s and 1990s.

While I was growing up, almost every Nigerian parent wanted their kids to be either doctors or lawyers. The two most useless professions in this country. Which Nigerian parent had the foresight to see that computer science would be as usefully as it is today? Still even today, they are still blinded to this fact.

Computer science was so easy to get then, yet it was frowned upon, and tagged as a course for people who weren't smart enough to get into medicine, law or engineering. But today it is the most valuable course anyone can study. I swear if I could go back in time I'll apply for computer science in Unilag just after finishing secondary school, then get a laptop and start coding from day one.
You're very correct on this.
