If we all did what you did do you think this thread would have survived till date?

Hello Chibertha, my fellow MU people.
Someone already forwarded it here, but I'll post it again.

In my last interview, I had no LinkedIn profile, and I made an error on my DS-160, which Barrister Ogbu noticed after I sent him my DS-160 for review. I built my LinkedIn profile and uploaded all my certifications. For someone with a long career, the VO wouldn't believe that I actually work with the said organization if I didn't have an online presence.

I was the third in line and the first to be approved. The interview started around 10:15 a.m.

VO: Hello.
Me: Good morning.
VO: Could you pass me your form?
Me: Yes! You can have it.
VO: So, you're going to Marshall University.
Me: Correct! I'm going to Marshall University for my Masters in Geography, and I will be taking a minimum of 34 credit hours with courses like bla bla. Under the supervision of Professor Jamie, I would be researching the impact of *****. (I stuttered at first but gained momentum when she said that she was interested in my research, so I continued and she didn't interrupt me.)
VO: Have you been outside the country?
Me: No! I've been very busy working in Nigeria.
VO: So, do you have any relatives living in the US?
Me: No! I don't. All my relatives live in Nigeria.
VO: So, you were here last year, going to FSU, and were denied this year again, going to Marshall University. Tell me what has changed and why you think you were denied. Be honest with me.
Me: I think the last time I was in Lagos, I was unable to explain my funding clearly and concisely. I have been awarded a graduate teaching assistantship that covers 70% of my tuition and fees and a $6,000 stipend to cater for my living expenses. I have worked for over 11 years and have saved 12 million naira, of which I will use part to cover my deficit.

VO: So what about your uncle? Why is he not sponsoring you again?
Me: I have enough money to cover my deficit; that's why my account statement was used. But he still promised to assist me, as he always does.
VO: I think this school is very affordable too?
Me: Yes! I was offered a GTA.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, but I'm in a committed relationship, and we plan to tie the knot when I come back to Nigeria after my program.
VO: What's your post-study plan?
I will be returning as the regional GIS head in our organization; we're the 4th largest in Nigeria. I will be applying geospatial technologies to combat energy theft and generate more revenue for the organization.
VO: Is the company private?
Me: Yes! Following the unbundling of PHCN in 2013.
VO: In the US, ours is run by the government.
Me: Okay
VO: Have you applied to Canada before?
(I guess she opened my LinkedIn and saw the Canada WES evaluation report because I saw her screen reflection on her glasses.)
Me: No! When I wanted to evaluate my transcript, I accidentally selected Canada instead of the USA, so I had to pay another fee and transfer my transcript to WES USA. (which she cut off)
VO: It's okay. Your visa is approved.
You will get an email soon. Enjoy your stay.
Me: "Thank you!"

I was just indifferent, and it was after I got out that the security guys told me to smile and said congratulations.

That was when I started getting emotional.

using their official email gives credibility to the reference. It really doesn’t add anything to it. If they use their private email still doesn’t harm anything if the recommendation is good. If they are in doubt, they can always reach out which I am sure they will never do.

Lastly, it is of great importance you have at least a teaching prof do a recommendation for you. Your colleagues at work or manager can always help with the rest.

Neither answer is good, but 1) is worse. Why would you spend millions of naira to get an associates degree, only to come back to Nigeria to pursue a bachelors, when you already have all you need to enter a bachelors program here in Nigeria?

Find a bachelors degree program in the US.

What you should have done is have each lecturer give you one recommendation… then forward that same letter to all the schools you selected. All you need to do is change the addresses and addressees. Expecting busy lecturers to craft several recommendation letters is stretching it.

But the only available option is to provide email of the recommenders. Please how do I go about forwarding the letter to them because I have one I can still use from a lecturer even on the dept lettee head.

My visa interview transcript

Visa: Approved
Location: Seoul, South Korea
Name of School: Missouri University of Science and Technology
Funding: Fully funded
Interview date: December 12, 2022

Visa appointment was by 8:15 am. I arrived at 7:50.
After the biometrics, I was directed to join the queue for interview by a male VO.

VO: When did you finish your masters?
Me: February 2021

VO: What major will you study for your PhD?
Me: (I told him)

VO: Your PhD program is funded , right?
Me: Yes, I got a fully-funded PhD offer

VO: What will you do after your PhD?
Me: In the short term, I'd like to apply for post-doctoral position to reinforce my research experience. In the long term, I will return to my home country to work as.... (VO cuts in).

VO: That's okay, I will be approving your visa sir.  You will receive your passport in few days.

Interview finished in approximately 1 minute. I picked up my visa after 2 business days.

Glory be to God!

It's seems visa interview of Nigerians in foreign countries are majorly easier than that of Nigeria where there is excessive gridding and milling of the applicant by the VO

I've read people who did EA, getting dates in 2024, I'm just looking at my chances of getting a close appointment date, Any advice please?

Next is visa ooo. Lol.

I think I prefer Abuja. I'll have to wait for January.

Hi guys,
I have a question I recently got admission for spring. Resumption January 9th. My EA was also approved which got date for January 3rd. I will like to know if the interview date being very close to your resumption date will make the VO deny you a visa.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by seansifo(m): 4:05am On Dec 21, 2022
I don't think so. Mske sure you let the vo know that you've made your plans and all you need left is your visa and your sure of entering the US before your start date.

You may as well write to your school if you could get at least an extension letter. If positive, then take the letter long to your interview.

Lastly, I would like to know when you applied for the EA and when was it approved and the location as well (Abuja or Lagos)
