How were they owed 8 months salaries?

Is it the 8 months they didn't work?

If they are paid for that 8 months they didn't work, what then is their sacrifice?

So it is only the students that should suffer the strike?

No work no pay should be enforced so when any union wants to go on strike, it should be really necessary. Not that when they are tired of going to work, they will just wake up and proceed on strike with one flimsy excuse.

And if the strike is very necessary, I'm sure the public will prevail on the govt to pay full salary after resolution and the govt is found wanting.

Though in my opinion, the govt should give them half of their salary and use the rest to equip university libraries.
E say na to equip library...

When you have a certificateless one as President, education must surely suffer.
Sure cos he was an opportunist who got into the corridors of power with no clear vision. He was never groomed to lead so he mounted leadership position unprepared and the ripple effect is felt across board. This how things has been running in this nation since creation.

Osodeke, who said ASUU members are only remaining in the classrooms in spite of the unfavourable treatment from the government as a sacrifice for the sake of students and parents as well as the country at large, equally berated the judiciary for hurriedly passing judgment on their matter with the Federal Government by asking ASUU members to go back to work and then adjourned the case till January 26.

He said a sensitive case such as the one between ASUU and Federal Government and particularly with interlocutory injunction should have been addressed in whole and given a speedy hearing and concluded without necessarily being delayed as he said it is currently.
The judiciary attends to issue concerning politicians faster as those are the ones that pay their salary or determine what they get.

Can you work when you are owed ?

If your father goes to work month to month and come back home to tell your mother stories will you be able to have the dead education you have today ?
am sure you can make your point without making reference to anybodys parents. if you cant, then make reference to yours.

was ASUU being owed originally or it was the "no work no pay" policy that was applied when they went on strike and they now said they are being owed?

You're one of the reasons buhari called youths lazy. You even mentioned equipping of library with ASUU half salary. With this alone, I conclude you didn't know Jack, on why they embarked on that strike in the first place. Students welfare contributed over 60% of the reason they went on strike, including the equipping of the library you ignorantly mentioned.

If you were owed piled upn arrears in your workplace and.your employer keeps saying he'd fulfill his promise and years later, the situation remained same, what wouid you do to get your owed salary? Be sincere. That's what ASUU had done. It's not only the failed government of the day, which you're defending that were culpable in the reneged promises, past pdp governments, some of whom are now members of the apc today also caused the mess. That's why we're sending both parties off next year Feb. They've done Nigeria to many bad than good. That over 100bn stolen by that accountant-general alone could have gone some way in addressing part of the ASUU demands. Na so so corruption this government sabi. They're not interested in the Nigerian future.
what are the arears ASUU is being owed?

I see another strike before the election, if that case in January is not cleared in that court room, that's the end for APC, its main aim is to transfer burden to the incoming government, ASSU are wise, let's wait till January 26.

. Law makers were getting full salaries during COVID 19 while they were abroad doing absolutely nothing when ASUU were receiving 20 percent of their salaries. What is good for the goose is good for the Ganga.

He said that based on the Speaker’s intervention then, ASUU suspended the strike with the hope that the Speaker’s words would be matched with action.

Honestly, I do not believe that Prof Osodeke, ASUU National Preaident, actually said the quote above because he can not lie so brazenly that it was Hon. Gbaja that persuaded ASUU to call of strike when the whole world can still recall that it was the Industrial Court and later the Appeal Court that upheld the judgement FG got against ASUU to resume duties that compelled ASUU to go back to classes.

Gbaja offered to help but he is not powerful enough to become the whole legislature nor is he the Executive that dragged ASUU to NIC nor is Gbaja the Judiciary that directed ASUU to go back to classes. He had good intentions but the case was already in court.

As we type, ASUU has not even challenged the no work no pay rule in court and FG has used this as a basis not to pay ASUU and other university unions for all the period they were not at work.

If it is true that Prof made this false accusation then it is really sad. As things stand, it is apparent that the FG team is more brilliant and strategic than the ASUU team. This attempt by Prof to misrepresent the facts is not good at all.

The reality is that the era of a united nationwide university academic staff association is gone.
Two things..

1.. ASUU has challenged the no work no pay thing at the industrial court.. 26th january is the day court will decide...

2. Majority of ASUU members wanted to continue the strike, regardless of the court ruling and the implications

He's always quick to come to the defense of the government.

His job is realy high here I must say..

Even knowin the gimmicks played by the government, he would still come to take side.

Pathetic!

I begin to wonder wen Femi was the chief legislator that persuaded them to end the strike, like how? Wen we all knew it was via a court order that compelled them. Gbaja was only acting as a middle man I case court fails.

Oga in a sane country the government is only meant to take at least one fifth of there salary if they go on strike. During this period the teachers wont contribute there pension buh the federal government took everything from them which is totally wrong. Even when they retire its very difficult to pay some of them pension.

How can a government even allow ASUU to go on strike for a long time and they find okey? The other time buhari went to UK and promised 50% increase in education sector and nothing was done.

People like are not meant to speak on issues like this.. go ahead with ur thug life ur brain capacity is too low for issues like this

To be honest if they were paid half month arrears for doing nothing it's not that bad.

That's said has ASUU ensured the major areas that improve the university system have been addressed or is this just about them and their pockets?

You do not need to attack everyone that doesn't share your opinion. It's your opinion that they should be paid and itsy his opinion that should not be paid for work not done as obtained in decent climes. All you need to do is to provide superior arguments why you guys should be paid. Nigerian lecturers are too autocratic and domineering. He doesn't need to agree with you and that doesn't make him less intelligent or stupid.
Learn to tolerate other people's opinions.

By the way, this your president speaks with many mouths, shortly after the strike, he said they called off the strike majorly to obey the court order. Why is he changing it now?
.

No work no pay is a policy by federal govt....its not law.Labour laws are similar all around d world...its one of d fruits of democracy. If an industrial action is called, the workers get paid for time on strike.

Can you point out the section of the law that says so?

Do you know a pronouncement from the court of law becomes the law of the land?

Do you know there's a subsisting pronouncement for one of the highest courts for NO WORK NO PAY?
A pronouncement is by court is not a law ...it can be challenged in a higher court.only senate n reps can pass laws like that.
