Cutting Your Baby's Hair When He/she Clocks 1 Year by Bayonet40(op): 9:09pm On Jan 06, 2023
Good evening nairalanders.
Why do Nigerians believe that you must have to cut your baby's hair (especially male babies) immediately they reach 1 year?
Is there any theory here?
People have been suggesting that I cut my boy's hair when he reaches 1 year which is some days from now, he has much hair which I plan to maintain and keep in a good shape.

Is a thing of choice
The hair protects their scalp and the entire head from getting cold and hitting the head on thr floor when they fall especially at that toddler age or infant age

So I believe that by 1yr, the scalp have grown enough to with stand cold effects and the effects of falling and hitting the head on the floor

Op you are just in my mind. I wanted to ask this same question here but i was trying to avoid insult from some NLders.

My daughter will be a year old next month and i love how full her hair have grown and i don't want to cut it, but i don't know if there's any repercussions for not doing that
Re: Cutting Your Baby's Hair When He/she Clocks 1 Year by Bethanybethel(f): 11:16am On Jan 07, 2023
Not necessary you can only cut it if the hair is thin and not healthy. There is no reason watsoever to cut a full healthy hair

There's no reason to cut the hair at 1 year old, it's seems to be something more like a myth that a child's hair should be cut at 1.It's even better for the hair to be there against cold.

No medical, cultural nor religious reaso. I have heared off. It's more like ' them say them say'.

Nothing special. Muslims cut their kids hair before 7days.
Those that kept the hair do so fir fashion or religious sake. Especially Cele Church or C&S people when they give birth to kids with dreads

Why not just ask your mother or any elderly person in your neighborhoodhuh You can't get
the answers you seek here. Many people here are simply young or single or inexperienced. I do not think they can advise you on this topic.

So that the remaining baby hair fall off while stronger normal hair sprout out

Especially for females, it helps when you want to plait later

Well... It's not advisable to cut a child hair below one year of age.... Now above one year of age, u can cut it or decide to leave it...but take note, when cutting it, you trim it and not shaving it off completely... So u use a clean scissors and not clippers because of the vibration....

None joor! It’s just superstition. Mine is almost two and no razor has touched her hair, neither is there likely to be anytime soon.

The reason most times is when the hair has overgrown and some boys won't even allow combing it. If the baby's hair is the strong he inherited from his parents, you can cut.
Girls hair are mostly left to grow long and they allow their mother to make it. It's in their DNA.
Naturally, a man should not keep long hair. So, the boys long hair must be cut

The reason is that combing full grown hair for baby becomes increasingly painful and causes discomfort for the child so cut it to all fresh hair growth.

My baby gal is 2 plus now. But at that age her mother suggested she wanna cut her hair. I was like no try am. Allow my baby hair grow as beautiful as it is... According to her people say... I wonder why most married women like listening to talks outside and come wan try am for her home. Most end up destroying what they have built... Back to the main matter. To me I would say don't do it... Well left for u to decide

My 6month baby boy's hair was much and became very difficult and painful to comb, so I had to use scissors and a light clipper to reduce it. For me, I do what is convenient for my nuclear family and not take advice from others.

Most people cut the hair cos it tyoically had grown unevenly if your kid has a full head of hair you may wish keep it.

Animals however shed their first hair or feathers, so maybe that could be the rational behind it
