Anybody who knew the old NITEL, NEPA, NPA. won’t say Northerner’s are less tribalistic.

The tribalism, nepotism, and corruption in those parastatals and federal ministries in the 70s, 80, and early 90s contributed significantly to Nigeria’s demise.

Hospitable, yes. Less tribalistic, the evidence is weak.

How do you even explain the fact that Southerners go to school more, do better in Waec and Jamb, have a higher enrollment in higher institutions but when you go to some government agencies, Northerners are suddenly more.

Anyone can argue all they like, facts are stubborn cheesy

Is not lie. I have experienced it so many times.

The Hausas will give you job over their own.

Just look at the Northern States. They are so many outsiders working in their state governments job. Kaduna , Borno and the rest. Can you say the same for other states?

Hope you saw LESS tribalistic on my initial post. Emphasis on LESS

From time hausas focus on their tribe over anything else. One of my old friends way back was vexing for his old man. (my friend is Yoruba) he said meet a Yoruba man for job help he will be blowing grammer what is your competence, show me your cv, you are not qualified for the position

But hausa man - will give you position straight.

And that is what we are seeing today. There was a lull from 2002 to 2016, but now the tribalism is back.

And we are all seeing the effects. People engaged first and foremost for tribal affiliation rather than competence. People with no understanding of basic rule of law, but drunk on power. That is why efcc and dss are running around breaking into houses at night with no warrant, arresting outside their jurisdiction and telling us nonsense about securing the naira

Incredibly stubborn. They don’t care about your feelings.

In the 80s and 90s you enter NPA and some federal ministries in Lagos then and you will think you are in Kano.

The reason it happens that way is because the average Yoruba man does not really care...It is just now that tribalism has gone round.

These guys don't care about religion or tribe.

My classmate in secondary school was a muslim, his younger sister was a Christian. His father was a muslim, and his mother was a Christian.

Imagine how liberal they are, even to children.

I think Lagos case has more to do with how the yorubas are, rather than because it is cosmopolitan

Until tinubu's politics introduced the most hateful of politicking narrative in Yorubaland.

I won't be surprised, the mistake we make down South is to lump these guys together instead of seeing them for what they are (distinct ethnic groups) and making negotiations with that understanding. On ClubHouse, most of the Fulani's that were previously in APC are now supporting Atiku.
Since the return to democracy, we've not had a Hausa in the number 1 or number 2 position in the country, despite them being the majority up North.

Southern presidential candidates.

Peter Obi's VP, Datti-Ahmed, is a core Fulani.

Tinubu's VP, Shettima, is a Kanuri.

Obi muled over Kwankwaso as his VP.

Kwankwaso is a core Fulani.

Miyeti Allah disowned Atiku as Fulani in 2019. He's Chamba but speaks Fulfude. He's widely but erroneously believed to be Fulani which favours him. https://punchng.com/that-atiku-speaks-fulfulde-doesnt-make-him-a-fulani-man-miyetti-allah/

I know you hate Obi because of one person reason. Lol

I don't hate Peter Obi. I have said several times that although I'm not voting, I lean towards Peter Obi. If I was voting, I probably would vote Peter Obi as a protest vote against Tinubu and Atiku.

What i hate is Saint Obi - which is a fictitious invention, inspired at least in part, by hopes for an Igbo presidency. Saint Obi can do no wrong, is not part of the Status Quo, and has a history of competence.

If you look well, you will find that a lot of Saint Obi fans are the ones that hate Peter Obi, and they can easily be identified by the sentiments they expressed when Peter Obi was a sitting governor - From wishing him a horrific death, to lamenting about shoddy infrastructure constructed on his watch, to using fond terms of endearment like Ekwensu to describe him...

I don't have a lot of time for the spurious fables of Saint Obi or the m0rons peddling them.

It's only relative. Maybe just a Yoruba - Igbo fluke rivalry playing to the gallery war.

But analysing it independently as an Ibibio man, I'm more likely to experience tribalism from ethnics in Imo than I am in Osun.

Even in school politics, I'm more likely to have a smoother entry into the SUG of a university in Abeokuta, Ogun State than any in Akwa, Anambra.

Does Tinubu play the tribal card to his advantage a few times? Yes. I campaign against him so I'd hype it up. But are the Yorubas tribalistic? No. Not necessarily. Or at least not like many tribes in the South.

I was born and raised in Yorubaland for a part of my life into teenagehood. I CAN NOT exactly pinpoint me being discriminated against by Yorubas because of my tribe. Neither my parents who lived there before I was born or my siblings.

I'm against Tinubu but what has to be stated has to be stated. smiley

I explained why Kwankwaso would be angry back in May before there was any primary in any party, and why he felt entitled to be the presidential candidate of any their force alternative to APC and PDP.

It's just his ego. He'd regret it for life. But Kwankwaso would have been another Atiku-like VP in Obi's wheel as president. He's more powerful and influential than it's even captured in the media. Only of the candidates (VP or presidential) who has the Northern fundamentalists' votes on lock even before the primaries.

DissTroy:

There is a Third Force but it is funded by relatively quiet moneybags from the old stock. Prof. Utomi, Falana, and the likes are the faces and the structure, but moneybags until recently was partly Kwankwaso who stopped the funding because he wanted to be a consensus candidate. There is but it doesn't have the financial warchest.

People like Obi should have started his movements right from 2019. He could have started building up structures back then. He could have been selling his values to regions other than the East.
Sadly, Obi can't get that ticket. He is even wise to settle for Atiku's vice when he loses[/color] Obi did but the Tinubu media hirelings exaggerated that Pandora nonsense to draw him back. He took close to two years fighting to wash off the corruption dirt to regain his relatively saintly image.

And he did so with no help from the PDP like Wike who was still nursing a sore of being schemed out in 2019.

Peter Obi should be a Southern project to force down the throat of the North, but Wike is a dickhead who has the finesse of an Oshodi underbridge thug. I know Obi has the South South by default outside Igboland. And he'd beat Amaechi even in Rivers State.

Nobody was expecting him to step down, all we needed was him running alongside PO, surely he'd have performed a lot better than Datti in rallying votes and with PO sweeping the South like he will, that would have been more than enough to secure victory.

I agree with you on the sentiment that Yorubas are more liberal and less tribalistic than other tribes, that's why I said "until tinubu introduced politics of hate there". I lived a large part of my life in Maryland Lagos, I also have Yoruba relatives, my uncle's from both partenal and maternal sides married Yoruba wives. My best food till date is a Yoruba dish. Spinach stew. Efo riro too.

As for Yoruba inclusiveness, there are largely known factors to this. They were the first Nigerians to have contact with the colonizers who set up administrative offices in their land and made it a center of diversity over the ensuing years. Being a developed port city meant being a large trading center that attracted all sorts of trade.
Being the first tribe to adopt western education made them more liberal, enlightened and educated than the other tribes and they were the largest group of nigeria's first emigrants to the west. They left in droves to get education.

And lastly, there were more of onlookers in the bitter civil war which was primarily a northern- eastern civil war. The northerners hated easterners more than westerners and the easterners hated the northerners more than westerners.

Soo all these factors combined made the Yorubas the most liberal of the rest until tinubu in a quest to solidify his control of power in the region introduced xenophobic narratives, "these people leave their lands and come to ours to mess it up" "they come in night buses and leave their messed up land of cannibals". As though the economic migrants who move to lagos are not drawn there because of the businesses. Businesses enabled by virtue of geography and historical politics.

Soo in summary, the Yorubas are less triba but tinubu has successfully introduced the politics of hate as you can see from his acolytes, raumdeteur and the rest.

Then I disagree with you on the university stuff. No data to back up the claim but I generally believe that the youths are just in general less tribalistic than their parents. Many people born in the 90s just don't care that much about tribal affiliation or sentiment.
