I have searched through Nairaland and I couldn’t find any helpful thread dedicated to US H-1B visa category. So I am creating this thread to help those that may have any questions relating to this non-immigrant work visa category.
Please for anyone that has gone through the process as a Nigerian, your input will be of great help to a lot of people in this visa category.
Kindly share your petition filling experience, the visa stamping process in US embassy in Nigeria and lot more that people could benefit from.

Brief about the H-1B Visa

The H-1B program allows companies and other employers in the United States to temporarily employ foreign workers in occupations that require the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor's degree or higher in the specific specialty, or its equivalent

If the employee is outside of the US, the employer has to file form I-129 on behalf of the employee. Once it’s approved the employee has to use the approved I-129 and file for the H-1B.
The employee has to work for the original employer in order for the life of the H-1B visa. In order to change jobs, a different process is followed. Not complying is a major cause of H-1B visas being cancelled/revoked.

Thank you for your comment @1stGenAmerican, have you at any point been a recipient of H1B visa?
If yes, what was your interview process like?

No because I’m an American citizen. My knowledge of visas is because a quarter of my cases involve immigration law.
The visa interview is easy.

That’s good to hear. Just kinda curious to also hear from Nigerians H1B visa recipients who have gone through their visa stamping in US embassies in Nigeria.

Also want to ask about IOE********** starting receipt number for I-797C notice of action, for someone with such receipt number, do you think their case will be process faster as compare to having a particular service center receipt number?

Are you sure that's not an L1 visa; with H1-B the new employer has to just take ownership of the visa with fees. L1 is tied to the original employer and can't be transferred.

H1B can be transferred to another employer but an approval has to be given by USCIS.

L1 visa is given when an employee is being transferred from a company outside of the US to same company within the US. Mostly that employee should be a manager.

Good day and Happy New Month
I'm currently residing in Nigeria and a Nigerian citizen as well, I'm at the verge of being offered a job at the United States but my potential employer is asking that I get a temporary I-551 stamp on my Nigerian passport or temporary I-551 printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visa. Attached with this mail is the document sent to me by my potential employer with what is required of me encircled. Please can anyone guide me on how to go about this and what are the requirements needed for me to attain this status.
Thank you so much as I look forward to prompt and favourable response.

You don't need an agent to file or process H1B for you. What you need is a job from a company which does the filing and processing, including payment. The employee does not pay anything.

Ask Vesti for a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action. If you have it already then it's legit.

It is your choice to believe whoever you want to, but I refuse to believe an agent is needed in the H1B lottery process other than the company which employed the applicant.

However, please don't come complaining kini kon kini kon when kasala burst. Anything you see, take it like that.

So, how come folks with stellar work experience and degrees from elite institutions don't know about this firm that links foreign applicants to companies that intentionally wish to employ them and file for their H1Bs?
