Smh...The average non-american hasn't seen breaking bad? I actually have a migraine trying to process that fallacy. Tons of people hasn't seen it and yet it's one of the most critically acclaimed show of all time?

And yes, the finale did break the internet, and saying this with all politeness, don't cook stats from thin air, actually do some research and live outside your bubble and touch grass once in a while.
you're just packing U.S records...
Even it's U.S records...apart from it's finale...it was nowhere near GOT

I asked you for worldwide viewership or trend

There are tons of shows very popular in the U.S but not as popular outside it

I'm willing to bet that outside the U.S, even Prisoon Break was far far more popular than Breaking Bad

U.S views of Breaking Bad

The Last of us on the other hand had 10m U.S viewers in U.S alone in 2 days

in what areas...
You would need to specify
In all areas you can think of

your statement is very worthless imo...

Since you can't even defend it

I can as well say:
Moon Knight is the greatest show in TV history and is better than GOT..."in all areas"

it was an American Show on an American network (AMC) in the era of no VOD and just primetime tv and the rest of the world got to see it via third party so the readily and accurate stat to measure how good the show was, is the US records!.

Clearly you might not be the brightest tool in the shade to argue these matters with, I apologize.

lol, the argument isn't about how popular it is in the U.S

You said it broke the internet...
I even asked for worldwide trend and you obviously couldn't provide cos you knew it never did

At this point we can as well agree that it never peaked in popularity outside the U.S
A show that can't even reach top 5 worldwide trend on twitter...

Rest.

There is no excuse you can give tbh...Prison Break was popular worldwide during it's airing...

when I first started Breaking Bad...
I watched season 1 and 2 and dropped it...it was boring af...
I wouldn't have even gone that far if it wasn't critically acclaimed

I gave it a second chance last year...it does improve drastically from season 3 upwards...

Give it a second try, you won't regret

Guy no dey drop okoto.

Stop comparing shows of this era of Peak TV currently and massive viewership with shows which had lesser audience and reach a la social media.

How many ppl in Naija know or watched The Sopranos, The Wire or, Sex and The City, True Detective. Yet, those shows are easily in all time lists anyday anytime and overall viewership numbers.
Also note that regional taste, culture and preferences also matters. It isn't in just black and white.

HOTD and TLOU We're singing their praises now already have a built in IP on ground. Comparing TLOU with BB is outrightly funny. You think say because you're just hearing of TLOU it's not massively popular elsewhere. The game is arguably the best video game of the last two decades if not of all time, judging by its numerous Game Awards.
So thinking that show will be niche content is funny. You can't compare it with Euphoria that's just starting out its own IP.

You might think BB is not that popular but it is. Only judging from GOTs popularity you'd have heard of the show, cos they both get easily compared with one another.

Although, I think it's genre and being light on action probably didn't help in blowing up it's viewership. It's not the kind of show you'd find being real popular in Nigeria or even Africa at large.

The best comparison of shows popularity would be comparing it with its contemporaries, not shows from the last 7 years when social media is a driving force behind success.
On that count, I think it did well.

in other words you admit to everything I've been saying since...

You can give excuses all you like for the reason, but you still ended up with the same conclusion I've made since...

So why were you arguing with me in the first place?

You prolly have comprehension problems. undecided

I'm giving you all sides of the story and not staying in a biased or subjective line of thought. I'm playing the devil's advocate on both counts.

It's like comparing Merlin with Game of Thrones. Of course many ppl watched Merlin and it's very popular but comparing it with GOT is ludicrous. Game of Thrones has shown that no TV show is it's equal in this present time of television. HOTD reinforced that and showed how strong that IP is despite ppl shouting and deceiving themselves πŸ˜‚ they won't watch it cos of S8. The famed GOT sef is easily beat by HOTD when you look at premiere numbers but of course it's an offshoot of GOT.

Also, some of these arguments also tends to do with generations and ages of people. Ask 15yr olds of nowadays about Merlin or Legend of The Seeker, and you'd be shocked how they don't give AF or know about it unless they've older siblings that still has old DVD stocks in house. Highest dem don hear of am but never watch am.

That's why you saw all time list of some journals the other day, and were crying why episodic formats and shows 20yrs older than you were there (which obviously you haven't watched).

If them tell you how popular The Wire or Sopranos be that time and how everyone who's exposed to Hollywood content then was watching feverishly you go think say na cap.

I believe and hope the message is well understood now.

yes a war is a war...
But you do not wage war on those who don't wage war on you...

Even in War there are rules...there are laws not to be broken even in War...
There are types of weapons that are prohibited in war... according to International Law

That's why there are War Criminals...

The solution to Racism is not genocide...and Genocide is what Eren is doing...
In fact what Eren is doing can't be called War ...
It is genocide

Eren is handlìng things in the best way possible.
I support his idea. Because it's the only possible solution, to end the cycle of killings.

end what? Lol...

Why has it not ended on Paradis that they're busy killing themselves...?

There has been 2 coup d'etat in Paradis in 4 years...
The Yeagerists are silencing everyone who dares question them, they turned their own people to Titans...Paradis is at the brink of another Civil War

Even the Hizuru woman said that all the rumbling would do is just reduce human population, they'll continue fighting on Paradis...and Floch admitted he knew

Erwin sef stated to Pixis in S3 that they'll never stop fighting and killing themselves as long as the humans exist...e even dey the episode 87 card

Look at Power that had so many sèx scenes that I almost quit the show...
GOT, Rome, Spartacus, e no complain...

But a Nollywood show that focuses of the crime and prostitution ring in a local Nigerian town and he's complaining

Shanty Town 2022

Not quite... but We are getting there!

I decided to continue my love/hate relationship with nollywood this year, seeing this and i wasn't disappointed that much for the first time in a long while!

Dialogue
The dialogue was mainly in pidgin english with a little intertwine of Yoruba, Ibo and Ibio-bio and it was so so good. The pidgin English was so raw, punchy, poignant and drove the narrative of the entire story so well that a native speaker will appreciate it more and the subtitles by netflix won't do it justice ...so stellar.

Cast.
The casting was A1 OMG. I have never seen a mix of cast this good in a nollywood flick for so long. From the OG's RMD, Sôla Sobowalè, Ini Edo to the youngins Nancy Isime, Lilian Afegbai, Zubby Michael to the amateur Peter Okoye and Mercy Eke all gave impressive performance that i couldn't even fault, but special praise goes to Nse Ikpe-Etim, this woman is a dame and her range in nollywood might be unmatched but the overall crown goes to Chidi Mokeme! Mannn..His performance was blindly good, his mannerism alone was so in sync with his titular character.

Nudity.
I saw the faux outrage about the nudity in the flick and i was expecting some hardcore material like we use to have in those low budget Ghanian movies from yester years and it was nothing like that.
How were they going to tell a story about a "town" filled with pimps, thugs, and prostitutes without some form of nudity?
Smh...Nigeria is a deeply religious non-religious state filled with "Sunday Christians" and "Friday Muslims", we might rank among the most perverse nations in the world but our faux morality meter is off the charts. organized religion might be the major thing holding us back and keeping us firmly in the trenches.
Morality police were over Nancy Isime's case on her show of flesh and she cowered and quickly put out a disclaimer that it was infact a double and not her in that scene, smh...as a professional, how are you allowing charlatans question your art? and she put this out inside 24hours of the show premiering and doing mad numbers, if i was the producer, i will find a contractual clause and sue her because her disclaimer might reduce the stock of the show.

Writing

This is still my biggest problem nollywood. The writing for this was good in the first 3 episodes and then it just lost gas and went pear shaped. The usual problem of chasing so many side plots without any plan of landing any, was still on show with the writing here. The end was so ambiguous to say the least with the last scene leaving an unnecessary confusion that was clearly not needed.

Overall..A better watch than the rest nollywood flicks on Netflix's clime before it. A strong cast performance and excellent dialogue that ensured that the message and narrative the flick tried to tell wasn't lost in translation.
