This drug Dexamethasone was prescribed by doctors in a Government hospital for my dad, getting to the pharmacy I was told that NAFDAC have stopped pharmacies from selling the drug and confiscated the ones in their warehouses.

I put a call across to the doctor to speak with the pharmacist about the development. After asking the pharmacist when the drug was withdrawn from circulation and other things the doctor insisted I get the drug in another pharmacy that have it in stock, this is after the pharmacist stood her ground that the drug is no longer safe as directed by NAFDAC.
I've gotten the drug but I am still not sure if I should let my dad take it cos of this confusion.
What do you guys think?

I used to work in a pharmacy years back. The drug is used for allergic reactions. People buy it a lot for the said purpose. Now, after many years of allowing it to be on the shelf, they banned it. How come they didn't discover what was wrong with it for many years

Those thieves, nothing consign them about human life as long as they do shortcuts to obtain money by hook/crook.

Doctors from government hospital . Just visit that doctor's private clinic tomorrow and you will be surprised that he will recommend for ur daddy a better different drugs.

You better go back to that pharmacist and ask him or her to give you a better alternative drug because as far as am concern the one you bought na original fake drug.

Aside from surgical operations, I believe pharmacists more than I believe doctors when it comes to drugs that's why with just ur lab result you can visit professional pharmacists (not chemists oo) for drug

No matter how NAFDAC banned it. the businessmen in the East will still make it available just to make money. Be careful op

This I have seen.

I don't know much about this drug.. but I know why women take this drug.


This drug side effect is deadly....
Brain and stomach ulcer.
Depression.
Unnecessary weight gain

Hmm. Don't risk that drug on your old pa. Take it yourself and see what happens. If nothing, then your pa is good to go.

The injectables are still very much available.

Na yansh enlargement drug.

NAFDAC released an advisory that there are some substandard brands of this drug in circulation.

That doesn't mean all Dexamethasone are fake.

However, this particular brand was part of the substandard ones listed by NAFDAC last year.

Why una dey book space untop medical matter ?

Why not ask the doctor for an alternative rather than risk your dad's life?
For sure there must be an alternative to Dexamethasone...

Pending the time you are waiting, do a Google search on the drug.

It’s a controlled drug. This doesn’t mean that it is bad. All it means is that it shouldn’t be sold over the counter just as NAFDAC did for tramadol and the rest.

Chemists shouldn’t stock it. Pharmacies shouldn’t sell one without a prescription as well.

As you’ve gotten it now you can give it to your father. So far your doctor prescribed for him to take it. Even in hospital wards they give their patients tramadol and cocain containing tablets to treat some cases, come remain this one.

The fact that NAFDAC withdraws some products doesn't mean they're harmful,it could be for other regulatory reasons.

Doctor said you should buy! Pharmacist said the drugs has been banned by govt !! Probably because the pharmacy didn’t had the drug for sale! If the doctor says it’s okay for consumption; then do it !!! The doctor knows what’s wrong with your relative and he knows what is required !! A banned drugs doesn’t mean it will kill anyone who takes it ! Just that sometimes , the compositions of a drug may not be in-line with government standard and that yet again in some cases doesn’t make the drug harmful to consume!
