Hello Familylanders, I have alpha thalassemia traits. The doctor advised if choose to marry an African lady, the lady should go for a test to confirm she is not a thalassemia carrier like me. I have done some online research concerning compatibility of AS and and a thalassemia carrier but I couldn't find much information. In one article a doctor said they can get married but recommended genetic counselling. I would like to get more information on the subject matter. https://www.icliniq.com/qa/beta-thalassemia/is-it-too-risky-for-me-to-marry-someone-with-sickle-cell-trait-if-i-have-beta-thalassemia-trait Qualified professionals, please share your views. Thank you. |

If you actually pray very well before getting married, you might realize that your destined wife might have an incompatible genotype with you. That is, you might be As and she would be As. If you are sick as a true christian, what will be revealed to you would be to bless water and drink for a cure. Science and Gods purpose in life is like oil and water, they can never mix. I'm a living witness |

AbdulMagaji:You are daft, Christianity does not say we shouldn't use our common sense, that is why God gave us free will, get sense. |

Op I had to google the meaning to understand your ailment, and nowhere does it say that it is life threatening, since you are AA, of course you can marry any other blood group, cos I don't see any damning effect it will cause. |

Jovialjune1:Some of us have made grave mistakes in this life by taking decisions on our own without consulting the creator in prayers. God ways is opposite that of man. Please don't fall into our trap. |

AbdulMagaji:The Bible says "Watch and Pray" "Faith without works is dead" You don't fold your arms and expect manna from heaven because you prayed, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from God" meaning you should use wisdom and sense to choose your spouse, then pray for God's blessings and favour. |

michlins:Proverb 3 vs 5-8 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. |

Jovialjune1:Thanks for your reply. It is not an ailment, analogous to the way sickle cell carriers (AS) live normal lives but there is a 25% chance of their kids suffering if two carriers get married. I am not very clear about is what will happen if I get married to an AS who is not a thalassemia carrier. |
