This idea that Peter Obi won #NigerianElections2023 in 19 states and the FCT and should be declared winner can lead to another #EndSARS like uprising if not checked. First of all, it is not true. But even if it is true, 19 states plus FCT can't win you the election!

According to the 1999 Constitution, presidential candidates must not only win a single majority but whoever will be recognised as an elected president must have won a stipulated minimum in every region of the country.

The candidate that receives the highest number of votes shall be declared elected only if they also fulfill a quota of 25 percent of the total votes cast in about 24 states including the Federal Capital Territory.

The law says a candidate must have 25% in 24 states including the FCT to become winner of a presidential election.

Peter obi had only 25% in 19 states including the FCT

How then should he be declared the winner?
