There's no way on earth gambling is the strongest addiction. The dopamine produced from anticipating your winnings cannot be stronger that that from using opioids, porn, masturbating, having sex, or other narcotics. Gambling seems to me like one of the weakest addictions. There are no withdrawal symptoms if you stop and you can't gamble if you are broke. Your case is a severe lack of willpower abeg. |

ThothHermes:this is so wrong and insensitive. try not to downplay the predicaments of others. it might be easy and nothing to you but it might mean a matter of "emotional and psychological life and death" to the next person. |

superCleanworks:This is not true. try not to downplay the predicaments of others. it might be easy and nothing to you but it might mean a matter of "emotional and psychological life and death" to the next person.I'm not. The guy has a history on this forum. Gambling is a psychological addiction. It's not as strong as being hooked on drugs. In fact, comments like yours are enabling. His parents deciding to cover for him have ensured that he will never be free. One way to help addicts is to allow them experience the full consequences of their addiction. Six months in a jail cell would do him more good than what his parents are doing, even though it's from a place of love and compassion. What will happen now is that he will lie low for a while till the storm passes and return to his old ways when all is well. This is the addiction cycle. (Google it). That thing you call sensitivity, the research calls it enablement. A total willingness and commitment to freedom is required for an addict to break free. Trust me. I've studied this thing a bit. |
