jl115: That could take some time, I don't even see it happening in less than 20 years, even for Western Cape. Although dysfunctional BUT Eskom's coal power can't be easily replaced. However, you guys sit on some potential Green Hydrogen with that of off-shore wind-power potential.

GreenandGold:Alan Winde has set 2035 as a target to finally generate enough energy independently to cover the demand for the WC, however the real problem isn't actually power generation but the Grid itself, he even admitted that they still don't know how they will supply the electricity generated since our Grid is fvcked |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by GreenandGold: 5:20pm On Mar 10, 2023 |
jl115: That's very optimistic of him. I don't doubt the Western Cape's ability to add new power within the province in the given timeframe, however, that could be enough to supplement Eskom to maybe as far as Stage 8 load-shedding and to cater to the forever-growing demand within the province.. But moving out of Eskom is going to be hard because even Koeberg (which forms the base of the WC grid) is owned by Eskom. 1 Like |

GreenandGold:With IPPs I think to generate 5700mw by 2035 won't be a problem at all, it's feeding that generation to the grid which I see as the major issue 1 Like |

GreenandGold: jl115: All the solar and wind generation projects currently underway don't mean shit if we're still fumbling along adding 200-300km of new transmission lines to the grid per annum. To fully utilise all that new generation, 2 things need to happen: 1) complete breaking up Eskom into 3 separate generation, transmission and distribution companies; the generation company gets to compete with the independents and can keep functional coal stations (GreenandGold, the idea of getting rid of coal is a red herring driven by the coal lobby), the transmission company should actually be Eskom's core business, with a clean balance sheet so it can go to the market and issue the bonds required to fund grid expansion, the distribution company should hand over to capable provinces and metros and keep the rest. 2) With the transmission company unencumbered by historical debt and able to issue bonds, it can then concentrate on ramping up and adding the required 2000km per annum transmission lines to fully utilise all that new generation. But as always with the ANC clowns, anything requiring the state to take a back seat (with the resultant diminishing feeding trough for politicos and their mates) is anathema. At the recent Africa Energy Indaba, we openly laughed at Gwede Mantashe when he complained that SA finance is investing in energy projects all over the planet but not at home! 2 Likes |

Flanker:Many defsec experts do not give the Mig29 so much credit mainly due to how it performed against the F16s and F15s in the Iraq war at the turn of the 90s. What do you think is the capability of the Mig 29? Is it a platform to be proud of? Don't you think your airforce in Algeria should try to retire it since it does not have a reputation for winning wars? 1 Like |

MiddleDimension: Well as i said before , iraq vs a laaarge coalition of 38 countries , NATO + several neighboring countries, + un embargo of 13 years before . You can't judge how the iraki's air force and its mig29A performed when you have AWACS , satelit intel , modern radars, hudge armada of jets , steath , Tomahawk that detroyed all airports in the first hours ect .... For second part , algerian mig 29S are used as second line fighters, with the sukhoi 30 MKA , Mig 35 and (the futur sukhoi 35 ) . In the region neighboors have in their second line fighters in service. F5 and mirage F1 for morocco , mirage 2000 for france , and the Mig 29S have an advantage against this jets , specially in air defense with the help of ground radars , air defense systems . So nowdays its limited against modern jets , but in any air force you will find first line , second line equipments . Some evn operate nowdays even the Mig 21 and its variants for exemple 2 Likes |

MiddleDimension: In most wars, the Mig-29s performed poorly. Even, in Africa, during the Ethiopian-Eritrean war the Mig-29s performed poorly against the Su-27s. |

Flanker: To be honest, regardless of the initial waves of attacks, the Iraqis failed to show up in the air at all and only very little engagements were ever made between Iraqi and coalition war birds. In fact, after the war it was discovered that the Iraqis buried most of their war planes underground in the desert. What does that tell you? The Iraqis sabotaged the war by panicking to engage allied forces |

Flanker: In your HONEST assessment, how would you compare the F15, 16 and 18s with the SU-30MKI and other variants? I have found out the hard way that quora is not the best place to ask this kind of question. What you hear there is complete nonsense! They even rate the F-16s above the SU57. 1 Like |

MiddleDimension: Comparing fighter jets based on names alone is like comparing a Toyota Camry to an Accord without referencing the model and year. Do you see the pic below? Thats is an F16 Viper. Deliveries only started around 2018. While that SU-30 might handle the C/D models in proliferation, It will not stand a chance against this sexy motherfucker. 2 Likes
