Breaking: Federal regulators said all depositors of Silicon Valley Bank will get their money and said a second bank, Signature Bank, was closed

that’s a bailout
Thanks for this information.

Wow.... A second bank closing. It means there are lots of banks drowning under unrealised bond losses. At least people can see that regulators must not wait for a bankrun to close a bank.

Some of us are good at destroying rather than building. I have benefitted so much from people here and also in treasury bills thread.

Let's learn to be tolerant. Some people give vital informations here that even with your money, you cannot buy it.

If you end up because of your empty ego send such people away, what happens to thousands of people that benefit from their informations?

Please if you are too big to be in a social environment or public domain, kindly mind your company or business and keep to yourself.

I shared the article because I believe in people doing their thinking for themselves. I guess you prefer to be spoonfed with unsubstantiated beliefs.

If you read the article you would have understood why the bank collapsed and not because the western world is imploding, but then you find conspiracy theories more appealing, ok.

Here again some recap in my own words:

1. Bank was over-exposed on cheap bonds when they should have been more deversified.

2. Because of d post COVID wahala USA increased interest rates to stabilize their economy.

3. Suddenly the bank's investments became less valuable or bad because newer bonds offer better yields.

4. The client and investors got to know about it and started withdrawing en mass.

5. Bank can't cope with multiple withdrawal and had to sell their now bad investments that resulted into big losses.
You want insult everyone abi?

You are actually the one that want to be spoonfed with unsubstianted beliefs when you use New York Times as guide for making financial decisions.

Over a year ago, Oracle said something like this is about to happen with the tools he had. He shared the information here so that other TA and FA guys can chip, so that everyone here can rub minds together.

And it is New York Times and Chatgp you are using.

It is clear you are a novice, it is either you learn from the elders or continue to wallow in ignorance.

I don't think you can with a website. But if you want to know if she had other stocks. This works if she was not registered for e-dividend:

http://sec.gov.ng/non-mandated/

Or if you have her details you can register as her at cscs

Taking the Nigeria way/route by registering as her is unlawful. The right thing to do is to approach a high court to issue a letter of administration with which you can recover all her/CSCS unclaimed assets including shares. The registrars and banks will lawfully provide you with all her statements of accounts.
...very interesting. Your advise is noted. Thank you! Previous website provided above was also very useful, I can see she bought many shares unknown to the children too. Thanks guys for the info!!!

Basically, it can be inferred from your post that the root cause is the rate hikes by the FED. Oracle predicted this could happen as a result of the hikes so he is correct. If the bank had a good risk management control, they would have implemented controls before now to minimize the impact. I learnt they didn't have a CRO for months.

ABSA sets aside $149m against Ghana debt. How much are Nigerian banks exposed, how much will they be setting aside ? Most likely not too significant compared to their total assets.

'Registering' was used to mean 'inputing' . That is typing her name in the space provided. I entered a lot of names of people I personally knew and were close to me but very secretive and discovered they had shares in several companies. Some of the companies have been in ICU for years now. These people are not very informed about stocks. They just bought. I found a way to reach out smartly to them by raising the topic of stocks with them. Some opened up and I helped. Some pretended and I looked for closer people to them and they eventually got help without knowing it was coming from me. Those who could not be helped, I am just watching them. This may be God's way of punishing them maybe for illegally acquired money... grin

Another thought :

Since most Developed world banks and Central banks (US, EU, Australia, Japan) are grappling with huge losses as a result severe bond wipeout, it will be natural for the western government to carefully orchestrate a severe global economic crash that will cause global funds to flow out from stocks, real estate funds, gold, silver, crude oil ( and other commodities) , bitcoin and whatever asset classes and force these monies to go into treasuries and bonds. That way banks/central banks with huge losses as a result of decline in bond prices will now see spectacular bids on these bond portfolios and these banks will be healthy again. But that will be at the expense of people/investors who get wiped out in the instruments highlighted above with staggering losses therein.

It is like forcing a huge flock of sheep through a narrow-gated field.

Thank you for this thought.

So looking at Nigerian assets, what will be the impact on Nigerian Bonds, NSE and other assets?

Should we be cash heavy or siddon look?

Thank you for this.

The koko is that it does not matter the bank or institution that went down. What is important that through technical analysis and simulations it became obvious these things are about to happen.

My job as an investor is to look for opportunities in this situation and also what to do to protect my assets.

One thing i know is that the raw information we get here on this thread and the Treasury Bills thread is more valuable than any information you can get in Bloomberg and all these other news media. Their own is to report on what has happened, by then it is already late to protect your investments.

The raw information shared here is also tailored to the Nigerian Market and is from real life experiences of people, not text book theory.

In my opinion, it could be contagion effect only and that will make even smaller country stock market to decline in prices.

I have been increasing my cash position to take advantage of any generational low opportunities that will show up in the markets soon.

Just take a look at the US, French, German, Swiss bond market. These are not normal moves. Yields Losing 5%, 10%, 8%, 22% respectively in hours. There is something happening. These same moves occurred during pandemic.

Also watch the MOVE index that measures bond volatility. I wrote about this in November 2022. It needs to spike over 220. Last high it ever made was in November 2008 (@214) when Lehman bros had already collapsed. So anything that goes far higher than this 2008 high shows that it will be a big thing coming.

Did Meffy visit the US at any time within the last 6 months, coz anything bank queues has to be related to him?

RabbiDoracle:
There are videos online about people queuing up to withdraw from First Republic Bank in California. $FRC.

Fed and US govt needs to make statement today before Asian markets open and before EU open. Otherwise the problem will be global and unstoppable. The unrealised losses these western banks are holding is enormous.

Did you not read where he repetedly claimed that the USA economy (and the developed) is collapsing because it was printing lots of money?

In 2008, there were up to 25 USA banks that failed for similar reasons, Washington Mutual Bank was the largest. USA economy is still here, still number one. The banks failed to deversify their investments.

Nothing new:

1. Feds started pumping money in response to COVID-19 crisis to help jump start the economy.

2. This caused increase in inflation. (Not even close to what we are experiencing in Nigeria)

3. To reduce inflation and mop up excess liquidity they increase interest rates.

All these are necessary monetary policies.

It depends on the composition of the market players, if foreign investors are many on our NSE trust by now everything would have been red top to bottom.
