Biden to speak about the US banking crisis in some minutes time.

Yet an emotional investor is saying that Oracle said blah blah blah.

At least we warned in November 2022 that a global bond crisis was coming and it could affect stocks.

RabbiDoracle:
This is the MOVE index which tracks volatility in the bond market.

This index needs to spike aggressively from the current 131 to over 220.

This spike will only be explained by an imminent global bond crisis. It will be a severe bond meltdown.

Once it affects bonds, most times it affects stocks as well.

It depends on the composition of the market players, if foreign investors are many on our NSE trust by now everything would have been red top to bottom.
You see, sometimes FPIs are not good grin .
Make this scale of price change I dey see here make e no cross the Atlantic ocean oh.. shocked

Madam, please continue to dey update us on things happening on NGX. We may not have much time to login and see. The world effects are moving too fast to catch up with.

Love your work.
Lol. Boss don't mind my comment. grin

Actually, this type of scenario has played out one time like that, which does not affect NSE as such.
Since the foreigners left the bulk of the trading to the locals, it seems like some kind of blessings in disguise for our local market, especially with the events happening in major countries like the US......it's not having sharp decline on NSE, unlike when the foreigners dominated the market.

This' my newbie's view of it.

* Pls continue to update us about international happenings. It's good for decision making. Well appreciated*

Exactly!
When the foreigners were in the majority in NSE, by now, the market for don hear am......with this US banking crisis.
Since majority of them pulled out their funds, we are ñow witnessing some kind of "calmness" in the market unlike how it used to be in the past.

Truly, we can never pick a better time to be grateful to them, but still this NSEBNK index is not looking good from the minutes to the hour charts ooo

Not disputing any chart formation or whatever...
Just trying to say that the foreigners were our major problems in the past.
Any little cough from USA or other developed countries, na NSE dey suffer am in the past...... but now, even if we witness decline in NGX, it may likely and largely be due to our domestic issues......
Not ruling out international ones too....but may not be in the majority.
USA had thought we cannot survive without them but God pass them. smiley
I stand to be corrected though.

FPIs are not in the market so i still believe market will follow natural way of tanking after the dividend. UBA might pay 1naira final, a lot of weak hands would be shaken off

Another thought :

Since most Developed world banks and Central banks (US, EU, Australia, Japan) are grappling with huge losses as a result severe bond wipeout, it will be natural for the western government to carefully orchestrate a severe global economic crash that will cause global funds to flow out from stocks, real estate funds, gold, silver, crude oil ( and other commodities) , bitcoin and whatever asset classes and force these monies to go into treasuries and bonds. That way banks/central banks with huge losses as a result of decline in bond prices will now see spectacular bids on these bond portfolios and these banks will be healthy again. But that will be at the expense of people/investors who get wiped out in the instruments highlighted above with staggering losses therein.

It is like forcing a huge flock of sheep through a narrow-gated field.
I always do long term investment.... which is the best period to invest inhuh

We still have those FPIs in the banking sector.....especially .u.g.a.z

Sometimes, we don't also know what's going on in the background.......some of us that can't read charts can only be watching their activities and looking out for opportunity here.

i still dont believe we have FPIs around cos if we do all the banking sector would have done 10percent negative by now, i think is SVB panic sell we are experiencing and it wont stay long as result will also have positive impact before the normal fall

Very brief without taking questions so that he won't say something off point.

There are still challenges. The regional banks where big funds over the FDIC limits will continue to have a run to the systemically Important Banks (SIB). And since the shareholders and the bondholders of the failed banks were made to lose everything, those investors(bondholders/shareholders) in the regional banks that are still open will continue to sell down their positions because they know that if anything happens, they too will loses everything just like they saw in SVB, Silvergate and Signature Banks.

And that is why currently, we have

First Republic Bank losing 74% just today alone,
PacWest at - 57% today
West Alliance at - 84% today

It now becomes self reinforcing loop where buy as Fed and FDIC solve SVB and signature Bank issues, more banks issues crop up in the same way and they will be forced to intervene again.

As at today they have 3 more banks(highlighted above) that are losing big time.

So will Fed intervene or allow it fail?

I think it has to do with regulators again, after Soludo did recapitalization banks still failed. Should we blame obj for that?.

There are lots of strategies that can benefit long term investors:

Dividend yield chasing
Naira cost averaging
Buy low and hold

You can do any (or all) of these 3 strategies.

However when there is a big event coming and this event could lead to very significant wipeout of gains and capital, most times, one is advised to start keeping cash to take up positions if prices get very low. Such events are usually global in nature.

So there is no particular date for which one should invest. Always stick around NSEMPA and most times you will hear members talk about probable things that could materially affect investments. And if it is immaterial, members still come around to debate it.
